How come I can't update my iPhone to iOS 5.1.1 9B208 instead of iOS 6?

Hello,
My iPhone recently bricked for some reason (I'm not sure why, it just hangs on the Apple logo when starting up), and I don't want to update it to iOS 6. I know for a fact my iPhone is GSM model, and I found the 5.1.1 OFW using Google, both just a "5.1.1" ipsw and a "5.1.1 9B208" ipsw. When I try to restore my phone with either of these ipsws by alt-clicking "restore," I get the error "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."
This is a different message than I get when I try to restore with an ipsw meant for an iPhone 4s, or other phone.
Is there a reason I cannot restore from this ipsw? And if there is, where can I find and ipsw for 5.1.1 that I can restore with?

Apple has stopped signing iOS 5.  You will need to update to iOS 6.

I may be completely wrong, but I think you may need iTunes 10 to update to 6.0 or 6.0.1. I'm also not completely sure what firmware the built-in update feature was implemented, so if all else fails, check the General tab in Settings to see if you can update from the iPhone itself.

  • How come I can't update my iPad 1 to the new iOS 6 it says my iOS version 5.1.1 is the latest version?

How come I can't update my iPad 1 to the new iOS 6 it says my iOS version 5.1.1 is the latest version?

The iPad 1, coming up on three years since it was introduced, has been given two major and a number of minor upgrades to iOS, more than many tablet manufactures provide. The iPad 1's hardware just can't effectively support many of the features in iOS 6. So I don't think that it's particularly unfair for Apple to no longer provide updates. And yes, I do own and manage a number of iPad 1s.
    Regards.

  • HT4623 how come I can't update my ipad2(ios5.0)

can you help me update my ipad2 to an ios5

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • TS1702 How come I can't update and loading the app and iTunes in my iPad?

Would anyone can help me to resolve that problems? Thanks!

Julvia, if you forgot your restrictions passcode there is nothing to do but restore from new.  Apple has pretty good security on these iDevices and besides just spending a long time trying to enter codes until you guess correctly there is nothing you can do.  Restoring from new means it will totally reset your device and you will have to reinstall all your Apps.
While this can be frustrating it is so that someone can't take your device and then access your information.  In the future I would advice using an app like Keeper that you just have to remember one password to access and then it stores all your other passwords for you.
I would address the first issue of not being able to download apps but since you are having to restore your device to new this may fix the issue.  If you are still having problems after you restore post in here and I'll see what i can do.

  • How can I update my iPhone 3gs to iOS4, after iOS5 came out?

I am still running iOS 3 (1.3) on my iPhone 3GS and I'm happy with it - but all the new apps requires iOS4 and now I'm sick of this. I want iOS4 (and not iOS5, cause it will drain my battery as far as I've understood).
How can I update my iPhone 3GS in a normal way to iOS4, through iTunes or another easy way? I have never jailbreaked an iPhone so I don't know too much about "backdoors" into my iPhone.

The only Firmware in the iOS 4 series that Apple is still signing for the iPhone 3GS is 4.1. So you could restore  to 4.1. You will have to download the 4.1 IPSW from Apple, and then install it with iTunes, Option Click Mac or Shift Click Windoz, on the Restore Button and then select the 4.1 IPSW on your computer. The current iTunes may give meaningless Errors, I doubt because you are Upgrading. But if Error Message is given you will have to search the Web for ways to Exit Recovery.
