How come i cant drop music into my iphone from itunes?

i download music from youtube converter onto my itunes.. it wont seem to drag the music from my itunes onto my iphone it just keeps showing a stop sign with a line going through it. HELP?

It was a suggested reason why you might not be able to drag & drop. If you have automatic syncing enabled then what goes on to the device is determined by the settings on the various tabs when it is connected, and only happens when you click the button to sync (or when you connect the device). Change the settings to ensure new content will be included and then it should sync automatically on demand.

How are you trying to transfer it and what are your setting on iTunes.  I'm not on a computer that has iTunes at the moment so I'm going from memory and similar issue.  If iTunes is set to sync music then I don't think you can select and drag, if set to manual manage music then you can.  Also make sure you are dragging to music on the iPhone.
    Hope this helps

The iphone is not  storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone.
The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • I can no longer manually add music to my iPhone from iTunes; what happened?

Recently I have been unable to add new music to my iPhone from iTunes. I used to be able to just select the songs I wanted, then drag and drop them onto to the phone by hovering over the iPhone icon. Now I get a crossed-out circle icon when I try to do this. Why is this happening, and how can I work around it? I'm pretty frustrated, as you can imagine!

Thanks for the judgmental response, Dave. My favorite part was where you told me how to manage the space on my computer. My second favorite part was when you accused me to stealing music.
I have only synced my iPhone with one computer and its iTunes library. I download music legally to that computer, from mixtape sites, Bandcamp, Amazon and---GASP---other none iTunes sites, load it onto my iPhone, then delete some of it, because I don't listen to music on my computer. I listen to it on a device I purchased to play it. That device is called an iPhone. It's supposed to play mp3s.
    Have I blown your mind?
But if I am hearing you right, you are telling me the iPhone is literally the only mp3 player in existence that doesn't and shouldn't have the basic functionality to have new mp3s loaded to it from a single authorized computer. That I should be happy now that I cannot load new music onto it, and I should just live with the music that I have already loaded, since I can't load anymore.
And that I should be happy that this basic functionality that, until the most recent software update, I have always had has magically disappeared.
How foolish it was of me to be upset about this! Thank you for showing me the light, Dave.

  • So I keep trying to sync music to my iPhone from iTunes, and whenever I select the album the sync goes by really fast and nothing goes onto my phone. Then when I click "On this iPhone" it shows the songs, but they're grey, and I can't click on them. Help?

Ok, sorry. And yes, I just restored my iPhone as new and tried to put all the songs on there before I even restored with my previous backup, but it still does the same thing... even when I just checked the option to sync only "selected music or videos". How's that possible?
P.S. After I tried syncing with checked songs only, nothing showed up under Music on my phone and this message popped up in iTunes: "The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." If you could, please tell me what that means, thanks.

After syncing my music to my iphone from itunes, my artist information doesnt match what shows on my itunes

You will have to sync your iphone to this computer first, erasing the current content and replacing wioth content from the new computer.
Make sure you have copied everything from the old comptuer to the new one first.

  • How do I put playlist into my iPhone from iTunes?

I need help with putting playlists in iTunes into my iPhone 4S. It used to be apparent, not now

In iTunes on your computer I would suggest doing the following:
Open iTunes. Connect your iPhone to the computer.
Select your iPhone in iTunes and open the Summary page (lists iOS version, storage/backup info, etc)
On the Summary page look towards the bottom for "Manually manage music and videos"
Put a check mark on that.
After doing this you can Create a playlist in iTunes and then Drag and Drop if to the Phone.
Note: This is most easily achieved if you enable the iTunes Sidebar from the Menu Bar: View>Show Sidebar

  • How can I add new music to my iPhone from a new device without losing all the existing music?

Hello! My personal laptob that I usually use to sync my iPhone to is broke at the moment so, I've been syncing to my work computer. I have some music, not downloaded from iTunes, on the new computer that I'd like to add to my iPhone but I can't see how without iTunes deleting all my existing playlists and music from my iPhone. I can click the menu arrow on a song and then select "Add to" from the pop-up menu, then choose from "Devices" - Nathan Swain's iPhone - and it lets me, but nothing ever get's added to my iPhone. I have also authorized this computer on my iTunes account. I'm stumped!

By design, iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE computer at a time. Each time you switch computers, ALL iTunes content is first erased from your phone, to be replaced with the content from the new computer.
No way around this fact, other than transferring your content to the computer you normally sync with.

    Thanks

Thanks Michael! I had to deauthorize my iMac b/c I says I have 5 computers authorized on my account already. I don't even have 5 computers. Are my iphone and Apple TV counted in the 5? And if there are old computers that are still authorized, how do I get them off of my 5?

  • Can you drag-and-drop music onto the iPhone in iTunes?

New to iPhone and only just braking it in, as it were.
It looks like the only way I can upload music onto my iPhone is via synching my entire library onto it. Which, if I may say so, is an incredibly stupid and debilitating design - amongst other severe shortcomings of the iPhone I am slowly discovering over time. Is it not possible to drag-and-drop like the good old iPods?
If this is indeed the only way to load music, what's the easiest I can pick out my favorite 2000-or so tunes and put them on there?? Don't tell me it's clicking on the boxes next to the songs in the Library page, because that's when I will start asking for my money back...
    Cheers

I don't blame this person whatsoever for making the assumption that the iPod portion of his phone would work similarily, if not the same, as the iPod.
But it does work the same as the iPod. As with an iPod, you can sync all songs and playlists, or selected playlists, or you can manually manage music and videos. You can also select sync only checked songs and videos under the Summary tab and uncheck the songs in your iTunes library that you don't want transferred to your iPhone. This can be used with syncing selected playlists - if you want to remove a song from your iPhone that is in a selected playlist without removing the song from the playlist in iTunes, you uncheck the song in the playlist in iTunes followed by a sync. There is no difference with an iPod in this regard except for the iPhone not supporting disk mode.
In order to manually manage music and videos with an iPod, you must select this under the Summary tab for the iPod sync preferences, and the same for the iPhone.
And if you resent his rant, why respond and waste your volunteer time on this post?
I can waste my time anyway I see fit. If you don't like it, don't respond.
And not everyone can afford to replace this type of investment on a whim.
    Copied from the OP's post.
Don't tell me it's clicking on the boxes next to the songs in the Library page, *because that's when I will start asking for my money back...*
Or the iPhone can be sold to someone else with the proceeds used to purchase a different phone. I haven't read any reports about someone having trouble selling their iPhone used at a good price even if damaged.
