how come i don,t see icloud in my system preferences i have version 10.6.8

iCloud is only available with 10.7.5 or later. Upgrade your computer accordingly:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
     OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
         1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
         2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
             Model Identifier 5,1 or later
         3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
         5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
     Lion System Requirements
       1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
           or Xeon processor
       2. 2GB of memory
       3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
       4. 7GB of available space
       5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

How come I don't see free iWork's in App Store. I just got a new iMac and installed Mavericks. On my Mom's Macbook Air, it was available in the App Store updates.

iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

I don't see Icloud under my Mac settings, how could I get it?

iCloud does not appear in System Preferences on Snow Leopard. The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 - as this has been superseded by Mountain Lion you would need to upgrade your Mac to that, having first checked that it meets the requirements as listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
The only thing you can do with Snow Leopard is to access iCloud mail on an account which has already been set up:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
and possibly sync calendars (though this is a hack and not necessarily reliable) as mentioned in this page:
    iCloud and Snow Leopard

There is no way to view your photos via iCloud.com. Videos are not uploaded.
Photo Stream merely "pushes" the photos to your other devices.

I don't have iCloud in my system preferences, I am using 10.6.8 how do I see how much storage I am using and how do I purchase more?

You can't check your usage on the iCloud website - you have to do this from the iCloud prefs pane, which you don't have. If you are only using it for email you would have to be storing an awful lot of messages to exceed 5GB. If you are concerned about this you can download some of them to your Mac and off iCloud.
To do this simply create a folder under 'On My Mac', go to the iCloud mailbox, select some of the messages and drag them to the folder you created. Don't try to do too many at once (say more than 100) and allow time for them to download.
If you haven't yet set Mail up to access iCloud, but are simply using the website, you can set it up as detailed here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
If you do decide to upgrade, the latest version of iPhoto is only £10.49, though MS Office is more of a problem. But you can go on as you are as long as your Mac holds out - Snow Leopard is a good solid system.

  • HT2404 I just clicked on Software Updates; BUT nothing shows what's happening? How come I can't see the updates & time it will take?

Help!  I just got this Lion, and SO many changes & not necessarily for the better !
I went to the Apple icon, but  "Software Updates" did not show ... though I had deferred installing some updates ...
Finally it showed up, I clicked on it, saw the updates to do - BUT when I clicked on install - the "box" that usually shows the updates & how long to install - just disappeared! I can't get to it to see what's next. (I have to leave soon & will turn off the mac)
What's happening? How come I can't see the updates as they are installed, & how much time it will take?
How do I know IF they have been installed?  Is this the "new Normal" for Lion? Or is there a glitch in my mac somewhere?
How about updates you download from Apple (not bought) - they go to Downloads on the Sideboard, but are they installed automatically, & put where they belong too? Is there no more restart, etc.?
    - I just went to Systems Preference, to see the "Installed Software" - shows they were ... but don't I have to restart anymore? Are all updates now automatically placed where they belong?
Thanks to any who can help
PS One other question - just checked my "profile" & it has my email addy that's 4 years old... how do I change That?

Trying sync my email to my iPhone 4S.  Did the verify address/rescue address step.  Now it says :  go to Settings, click iCloud.  I don't see iCloud as an option in Settings.  Did I have to open iCloud account to have setting?  Was something about it I didn't care for.  Any other way to complete the sync?  Also, I have old " pacbell.net "  email address that I don't want change.  business contacts.  Hoping can sync that.

I turned off and on and now do see the iCloud and clicked and it says Verifying but then comes back with Verification Failed message "The internet connection appears to be offline. "   I did receive the email and clicked and got "Verification successful" message within the email...

How come I can't see "Nike+" option in itunes when I plug in my iphone? I have it turned on in my iphone5 and have work out data in it.

    Hello Kanji0513,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
I found this bit of info about the way Nike+ works on the iPhone and iPod Touches versus the way it works with other model iPods.
Your iPod touch or iPhone 3GS or later wirelessly sends workout data to nikeplus.com from wherever you are on the road. So right after your run, you can track your progress and analyze your performance. If you walk or run with iPod nano, workout data is sent to nikeplus.com when you connect it to your Mac or PC.
    From: http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/sync.html
The option in iTunes only appears if you are not using an iPod Touch or iPhone.
    All the best,
    Sterling
