How come my battery timer remains at 4:47 no matter what

When I'm connected to AC power or have it running from the battery, it remains at 4:47.
I mostly use it connected to AC, with brief use of the battery if there isn't any ac around. Of course when I plug it in the power cord light shows orange to indicate that it's charging. But the battery timer never changes anymore.

I had a similar problem, but my cord did not light at all. I also had other problems and the reseller replaced my MBP.
You may need the battery; check the serial numbers on web site.

How come now every time i throw something into the recycle bin it asks for my password and when I do it doesn't show in my bin help please!

You're throwing away files that either don't belong to you or are in a folder that doesn't belong to you. Since your user account has Administrator privileges, it just ask you for authentication, else it would forbid the operation.
To better understand the concept, select one of your files from your home directory and press Control-I. In the info window, check the Sharing & Permissions section at the bottom. Do the same with one of the files that asks for the password.

  • Battery time remaining (how to properly charge macbook pro retina)

I'm a new macbook user, using a macbook pro 15 inch. I've been plugging in my charger when the battery gets down to around 20% and unplugging it when the light turns green (at 100%). I thought macbooks had a battery life of around 7-8 hours, but at fully charged, my time remaining (when I click on the battery icon the top right) says 5 hours. Can a  more experienced user correct me on as to what I am doing wrong in charging my macbook?

Two points:  The 'Time' setting is one of the most unreliable pieces of information on your MBP.  I set mine to '%'.  What it tries to show is based on what the MBP is doing at that very instant.  If you open Activity Monitor, you will see that the internal processing is very volatile.
What Apple advertises as time on a full charge is based on ultra conservative settings and use.  It doe not reflect the 'real' world.  Read the fine print and note the words 'up to', nor will, guaranty or promise.
Your battery run time will be a reflection of what applications you have open and the respective resources these applications require.
Here is a link to some good information regarding your MBP battery and its usage.  This will give you something to do for the rest of the afternoon.

  • How come that the time machine backup takes 5 days to sync 200 GB over the ethernet?

I'm really not happy with the backup speed of the time machine. it has been 1 day and half that it is syncing and for now just 36GB are done of 210GB.
The remaining time estimation is ridiculous around 5 more days?
How come this is possible?? I cannot move my mac pro anywhere else it needs to be plug-in 24/7 to the Ethernet and power, of course hoping that everything goes already during these 5 days to backup.
I've tried different things, I've check my disk for issues also for permission issues none existed.
I've tried to restart the backup from scratch, even some times it start fast it slows down to a very low transfer rate, and now the current rate of transfer is around 1KB or lower :S
The soul purpose of the time capsule is to do backups but at this speed rate it's useless, and from what I saw it happens to other people.
I must have being doing something very wrong, can anyone help me or give me suggestions?
    Regards
    P.S. Mac pro 13'' early 2011 with 8 GB, Mac OX 10.7.5

The latest update to Lion.. 10.7.5 added slowness of TM as a new feature.. (There are no bugs just features).
Until Apple sort out their beta testing I would recommend a different backup software. CCC, SuperDuper, Chronosync.
The issue from reading the various posts is affecting everyone.. including people using external drives.
Welcome to the new Apple beta program.

  • Why doesn't dimming my screen affect the estimated battery time remaining?

rMBP 15". The brightness of my screen greatly affects the battery life. At near-full brightness it will discharge from 100% to 20% in about two hours. At the lowest brightness setting, it lasts between four and five hours. However, when I click the battery icon and hold it down, the estimated time remaining doesn't change regardless, despite the obvious and significant difference between the two brightness settings, all other things being equal. Is there something I can do to make this estimate more accurate?

    OS X Mavericks
For more detailed information about battery charge, try Activity Monitor.
Application  > Utilities > Activity Monitor
Click the "Energy" tab at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
At the bottom of the same window, there are 3 sections with details battery charge.
    Best.

  • Conky battery time remaining - without the seconds

The 'battery_time' variable outputs in HH:MM:SS format; I find the last bit redundant and it takes up valuable space in my status bar.
I found this solution that worked for others, though I'm having trouble making it work for me.
    ${execi 60 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*/state | awk '{if ($0 ~ "present rate:"){rate = $3} if($0 ~ "remaining capacity:"){cap = $3}} END {printf "%d hours %d minutes\n" ,(cap / rate), (((cap % rate) / rate) * 60)}'}
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/ has been dropped in favor of /sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/, though I don't see the 'state' script needed by the above command to work.
capacity, charge_full, charge_now, cycle_count, status, etc are there, but no 'state' containing "remaining capacity:" or "present rate:" needed for the math to take place

    Hi!
Maybe for the original poster this came late, But i found a solution for this problem by my own and I want to share it for future use
Using the variable $battery_time from conky you can display the time remaining on your battery only in hours and minutes (losing the seconds).
1st> Add to the start of your conky config file the flag:
    times_in_seconds true
    This will "convert" the output of  $battery_time to seconds  (e.g. 1h 1m 1s --->3661 sec )
2nd> Use the follow expression to convert from seconds to hours and minutes:
    ${format_time $battery_time "\hh\mm"}

  • HP G62 battery - time remaining never shown

    Hi,
I have an HP G62 and am very pleased with it.  However, there is one little annoyance in that in Windows 7, the battery percentage is always shown but never with an amount of time remaining.  I also use Ubuntu, and the problem presents itself in more ways there:
The time remaining is never shown but the percentage is
In Gnome Power management, a 'rate' or 'voltage' is never shown - ie it's always zero
The 'Energy when full' and 'Energy (design)' figures change every reboot.
I read somewhere that a BIOS update may sort this issue but I've upgraded to F46 and still no progress.  I've also done a full calibration of the battery and still it seems no operating system can read a discharge rate for the battery.
Other people have reported this as a bug in Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/661759 but I think it's more a hardware fault.  Has anyone else experienced the issue and does anyone know of a fix?

I have an sd card and a cf card running ubuntu 10.10 on an external card reader.  On an nc4400 and a tc4400 everything reads as it should in the power manager.  The battery indicator at the top shows time remaining and the design capacity always stays the same.
I think a lot of the problem is in the bios in that it's the bios that allows the os to see the sensors.  Over the years computer manufacturers have taken out a lot of options in the bios. I think that they think that we are too dumb to choose the right settings in the bios and that we cause a lot of warranty problems by changing settings in the bios. For instance virtualization.
That's kinda why I stay with the older machines, I like being able to change my settings.  Plus, there's not a whole lot of modded bios out there for hp's because hp locks their bios down pretty tight.  That's why we can't get a fan control to work like you can for thinkpads. I don't have any solutions for you  but I do feel your pain.  I would love to get a new machine, but I just don't trust them.
I don't think it's any kind of hardware problem though. I really think it's in the bios.  You might try going on MyDigitalLife and poking around there, that would be the place to find a modded bios if there was one.  Or maybe another solution.
Did someone help you? Pay it forward. Help someone else.

  • How do you change time remaining?

Firstly, I am using a downloaded Keynote theme I purchased from GraphicRiver. It works amazingly well. I noticed that when I enter the Play mode and click "Choose what presenter tools to display" I cannot set the time remaining to more than 24 minutes. If I enter 45 minutes it defaults back to 24 minutes. If I add less than 24 then the new value will be accepted. Any thoughts besides pulling out PowerPoint?

    ok try this.
From the arrange window, click the 'lists' icon (next to the bounce, media and colours). Now select the tempo tab.
Here you can create individual tempos based on the position of the tracks. so the default starts 1.1.1.1 you can then create a new one say.. 5.1.1.1 and give that its own tempo.
If you then expand the 'global tracks' thingy (left hand side of the arrange window just above where tracks are listed, you can thenexpand the 'tempo' tree and see the tempo kind of like an 'automation' line.
    Hope this was more helpful.

  • How do I display time remaining in a captivate published video so the learning can know how much time is remaining in a video

After I publish my video it just plays but there is no indication of how much time is remaining on the video while watching. How do I display this

It is possible, but you have to know 'time' is bit different, depending if you are talking about the 'editors' time or the real time spent by the the trainee. Have a look at this old blog post, that tries to explain:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/display-time-information
Time can show on the TOC (editors time), and if you have a playbar with a progress bar that gives some indication as well, but both for pure linear projects.

  • How come my battery on my new MacBook Air 13 in won't charge to capacity?

The first time I turned on my MacBook Air the battery had about a 5 hour charge to it. After that it will only charge to about 2 1/2 hours max and it says that it is at full charge. I thought the Airs had a 7 hour battery life. Is there something I need to do differently? Does it take a few charges to get at full capacity?

They have an UP TO 7 hour battery life.
The higher the load you put on the battery the quicker it will be depleted.
    Turn off bluetooth.
Turn the screen backlight down to as low as you can stand.
    Turn off the keyboard backlight.
Don't visit websites that are coded using flash.
    Don't view video.
You only get long run times when you use the cpu very lightly.

  • How come when every time i open ff i have the same 2 tabs instead of the one I choosed in my options

    '''''texte en gras'''''
in "option internet" & "general" & i chose "new tab" for my home page, but every time i open firefox i have two tabs that loads, one is the tab i asked for, but another one creep in there, it is an old web page where i downloaded something from there after installing firefox, i don't know if it is because i went to that site right after dowloading firefox 6.0 it is like the web page stuck there with my home page and i tried everything but nothing works...
please forgive my english, i am not bilingual yet...thank you

Another user had a second tab opening and it was caused by one of his extensions.
You can check for nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the Add-ons page and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that get rid of the extra tab?
