How come my Ipod Touch will only charge when plugged into a computer and not a docking station or wall socket?

My IPhone works with both the charging USB cable as well as the wall socket and docking station. Additionally, my IPod used to charge using both the wall socket plug in and the docking station. My IPod will stay play music when plugged into the docking station, but won't charge. Further, when I plug my IPod into my computer all it will do is charge and is not recognized by ITunes. I have done both a soft and hard reset.

Try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. If that fails, the battery may have gone kaput.

How come the iPod Touch doesn't charge when connected to an USB extension?

I have it plug it directly into the iMac, I can't plug it into an extension cable connected to the iMac. My older iPod Touch charged just fine using the USB extender, but my new one refuses to charge unless it's directly connected to the iMac. Why would Apple change how the iPod charges? Those extension cables are useful when you need to switch out USB devices, since the ports are all in the back of the unit.

I noticed the same thing happened with my iPod touch. It wouldn't charge on my iMac but when I connected it to my Macbook it started up right away. The difference being, I think, is not the computers but the usb hubs. The one on my Macbook has its own power supply where as the one on my iMac doesn't. Try that. Maybe the usb hub just needs to have its own power supply in order for the iPod touch to charge. So if that's the case then the usb extension cable probably won't work at all.

Ipod Touch will only turn on plugged into computer, It will sync and as soon as I touch the screen after syncing it shuts down

My Ipod touch 3g will turn on with the cable attached, it will sync with Itunes. But as soon as I touch the screen to unlock it, I get no response to the touch and it immediately crashes. Also everytime I unplug it I have to restore it to a new Ipod to get it to sync. Is the battery bad? The battery meter says its full too. Or any I looking a host of different problems. Could the logic board be bad?

it could be to rule this out are u able to reset the device?
hold both power and home buttons till the apple logo shows
if u get no reponse or it crashes it could be the logic board or the battery is damaged
and i would make an apponintemet at the genius at www.itunes.com to arrange an repair or chat to a apple repair team member

My sons iPod touch will only charge with computer. This has happened since update. Wall charger charges other iPods/iPhone. Restored to original defaults. And still does not work.

I believe it started with the update prior to 5.1.1. I just udated it to the 5.1.1, thinking it would resolve the problem.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using a new shuffle usb cable in my 2nd generation shuffle and nothing shows up on computer. I'm wondering if the dock for the second gen is different than the new usb cable direct into the 2nd gen shuffle. I don't have a dock for it. Before I buy one on ebay I hope someone can assist.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

iPads don't get enough power from some USB ports to charge. It will charge, but very very slowly. Use the adapter in a wall outlet for best performance.

It's just the battery sign - nothing else. I've tried to reboot by holding down both power and home key for 10+ seconds, waiting for the apple logo - but nothing happens. It's plugged into the imac at the moment. I tried to recharge it overnight using the normal charger - but no luck. It went dead during a Skype call with a friend - even though it was powered into the mains - albeit at a low battery level at the time

Suddenly in the last 10 days, my iPod Touch playlists don't show up on the iPod unless plugged into iTunes and only under the device section of iTunes. Most computer USB ports don't have enough power to charge an iPad. Typically, the iPad can only be charged with the supplied adapter. If your husband's iPad is actually charging, it's charging very, very slow.

Ipod touch will only charge in docking station after 3.0 upgrade

Prior to my recent (this week) upgrade to 3.0, my ipod touch could charge off of my desktop computer, my laptop, and my Apple USB wall charger adapter. That adapter is not the current version, but the prior model. Since I've done the upgrade, the ipod touch no longer recognizes it's attached to the adapter (and the wall outlet) or to the USB cable and computer. I am using the Apple supplied USB cable, so it is not a matter of using non apple equipment or Firewire. This week, it will only charge using a lamp that has a docking station. I've had the ipod touch about 4 months, and didn't have this issue until the 3.0 upgrade. Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on how to fix it?

How come my iPod Touch won't charge?

After the newest iPod update which was earlier this week, my iPod hasn't been able to keep a charge. It will only charge up to 20% before it stops charging and the "battery running low" thing pops up every second. I've tried looking for the answer or a way to fix it, but I can't find a way to get my iPod to charge anymore. Someone please help. Is it my charger? Or is it the new update?
