How copy a layer and its layer mask to another image?

Using PSE9, how can a copy a layer and its layer mask to another image?
The on-line help contains a topic on how to copy a layer but trying the different methods in the help topic results in either nothing being copied or just the layer without its layer mask being copied. Thanks.

How are you copying? If you float your images, so they are both partially visible in the work area, make the one with the to be copied layer active. Then drag the layer from the layers palette onto the other image. Now you should have both the layer and the mask on the second image.

I don't understand what you said and your shape layer looks different then mine using CS5.
When the chain is deselected, I can't do anything with the move tool on the shape layer. This is the only difference I can find. Making the solid color uniform or not doesn't change anything.
Your example shows that you moved the position of the solid color, how did you do that? I can create a solid color layer and change its uniform look by applying an effect like gradient but I can't move the solid color itself around. How is this possible?

How Adobe gets DATE and its format?

I am getting current (todays) date by using below JS in some flds, and by using below FormCalc for some flds into my_form,
JS:
var currentTime = new Date()
Form Calc:
$.rawValue = num2date(date(), DateFmt(MM/DD/YYYY))
But, i dont have much idea that how adobe is getting this date? For my company this is the very first form, hence they are asking me how adobe gets date and its format whether,
1) From local IP/Interner provider address's date, format?
2) or user PC/laptop's LOCAL settings date, format? if so, for example, if Germany user (Laptop settings) has a DD.MM.YYYY configured, if this user comes to US on a busines trip and if that user opens the form, then how the date looks like for this user? as per user laptop settings DD.MM.YYYY or local internat provider date format MM//DD//YYYY?

Hi,
the date() function returns the number of days since 01.01.1900 for the local date of the current system (related to the system clock of the OS).
If you travel from Germany to the US but don't update your date/time settings, then it returns the same date in the US as in Germany.
You can check the behavior by changing your local date/time setting or the timezones.

Ofcourse you would like to have both of them if you want a healthy system. If your OSB services are internet facing then it is a sensible decision to have both transport (a bare minimum) & message security. If your services are exposed to a LAN/WAN then you may have either or both of them. Remember, securitiy processing is always an overhaed to the performance so should be used as and when required only.

The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

Mouse cursor moving mask over another image.

Hi, Is it possible to have where the Mouse cursor is on the page moving mask over another image. Imagine a black screen with a star cut out of the middle(where the cursor is) and u can see the image behind.
Any examples on how to do this?
Can it be done in html instead?

Create the mask and the background as movieclips and then assign the mask as the mask property of the bacground movieclip... as in background.mask = msk (where msk is the instance name of the mask).
Then assign a MOUSE_MOVE event listener to the mask and in the event handler for that listener have its x and y properties assigned to be the mouseX and mouseY properties

Got a reply, but the solution didn't work in PSE 10.
After trial and error, I figured it out.
When dealing with abstract art or even hair, it is too time consuming to make a
mask pixel by pixel.
Load the image you want to mask into a new layer and convert it to black and white. You might need to
adjust contrast/brightness to maximize the effect..
Using the Magic Wand tool, click on the WHITE area of the image.
Click Edit/Copy.
Click on the layer you want the mask copied to.
Next, click on "Add new layer mask" button on the bottom of the layers panel.
Your mask should appear and is now ready for a touching up!.

In Photoshop there are often more ways than one to achieve a task and none of them need be considered »wrong« as long as the result fits the intention, so »the correct way« seems to be problematic terminology.
Anyway, one can use a Layer set to Blend Mode Color and paint on that with whatever colors.
Or one can use Solid Color Layers set to Blend Mode Color.
Or Hue/Saturation Layers …
To edit contrast if necessary Curves or Levels Adjustment Layers can be employed.

PSE9: How do I move/copy an Album and its contents from my PC to my laptop?

I am using Windows 7 and PSE 9 on my PC and want to get a copy of the album and its contents to my Vista laptop running PSE 9 without changing anything on the source PC. Anyone know how to do this? I know I can move the files through Windows Explorer on my network but I have already gone through the trouble of putting the best photos into an Album and would like to simply move the Album over and not have to go through the trouble of recreating it.

You will need to copy the files.
1. Make a new folder on your laptop
2. Open Organizer, select your Album then press Ctrl+A to select all photos
3. Click the Fix tab and choose Full Photo Edit to open the album contents in the editor
4. Click File >>Process Multiple Files
5. From the drop down menu (Process files From) choose Opened Files
6. For destination click the browse button and navigate to your new folder on your network and click OK
7. Make sure Rename and Resize is unchecked but check Convert files To and choose Jpeg Max quality or whatever you prefer then click OK and wait for Elements to finish.
8. Go to your laptop folder to see your images.

How do i duplicate and mirror a mask

Using Photoshop CC I have created an image with a very difficult multi point select tool (the polygon lasso tool), layer mask and box filter. Instead of redrawing the multi point selection again is there a way to duplicate just the mask and i know I can flip an individual layer horizontal before moving the image to the canvas. I tried and succeeded once but be damned if I can remember how i did it. I will need to repeat and flip a bunch of images so using this ability to quickly dup and flip a mask would be very helpful. Like I said I did it once already so I know it is possible. I have been trying again but have not stumbled upon it yet. If I do figure it out again I will gladly post it here.

You can duplicate a mask by holding down the alt/opt key while dragging the mask to another layer.
You can hold down the ctrl/cmd key to create a selection when clicking on the mask
You will find the horizontal and vertical commands in the edit menu's transform sub menu.
If you save the selection in the selection menu (this will place the mask in the channels panel) you can click on that thumbnail in the channels panel to edit the mask as though it is an image. Which would allow you to flip it. You can then load the selection in the selections menu to use that mask as a selection.
If something does not work as I describe, please let me know. I am going from memory, I can run photoshop to verify if needed.

Hi Pradipta,
If you are referring to Guided Procedures as the "Process Layer", then you have one of the three options that I can think of:
1) Deliver the GP processes via UWL in CE Portal
2) Deliver the GP processes via UWL in EP (if your organization has one)
3) Delvier the GP processes via GP Runtime in CE Portal
Of the three mentioned above, option 2 is preferred since your business users get to access their tasks via a single interface. But you need a EP. If that's not the case, I would suggest Option 1. For integrating GP and UWL, please refer to following link.

How can I find and change a mask that was created by someone else?

I need to adapt a design to a billboard; it was originally created by our parent company's marketing. The billboard company just informed me that I need to incorporate a bleed area and the document does not have that.
I think it's using a mask on the items that will need to bleed, so I need to find the masking box and expand it to meet the bleed. But since I did not create this document, I have no idea how to find it and it's difficult to reach Marketing.
Is there an easy way to find the mask, or make it visible?

Unlock all layers
Object >> unlock all
Select >> Object >> Clipping Masks
Object >> Clipping Mask >> Release
If you find there are no clipping masks, you can also mask using the tranparency palette. UYou basiclaly have on lemtn whcih is your art, adn some art on top whcih serves as the mask, you slect both then use the make mask command form the transprency palette.
Do a CMD Y to better analiyze how this is constructed, as without a screenshot we can only make a best guess as to what is going on.

Linking photo layer and name layer

I am producing a large number of memorymates and would like to link the individual photo layer with the corresponding name layer to simplify printing. Is this practical in cs4?

I would also look at Layer Sets, where the student's image Layer and their Text Layer would be grouped and linked, and their name can be used in the Layer Set too.
This is rather like a DVD/BD Menu, where each Button is a Layer Set, and all Assets for that Button, graphics, Text, Shapes, Sub-picture Highlight Layer, etc., will be grouped inside that Layer Set. The Layer Sets are automatically named Button 1, Button 2, etc., but one can easily change those to say, Scene 01, etc.
Good luck, and hope that gets you what you want and need.

PS you can even assign separate colors to the Layer Set icons, to help you identify them, if you wish. Say yellow for the top row of students, green for the next, and so on.

Use in the layers
The physical layer is the layer of the Logical Business Model where you define the physical data model of your data source. It contains information about the physical data sources.
The most common way to create the schema in the Physical layer is by importing metadata (table, view, …) from databases and other data sources. If you import metadata, many of the properties are configured automatically based on the information gathered during the import process. You can also define other attributes of the physical data source, such as join relationships, that might not exist in the data source metadata.
In the Business Model
In the business model, OBI recommends using complex logical joins instead of foreign key logical joins.
When Complex joins are used in the business layer then they are really acting as placeholders. They allow the OBI Server to decide on which are the best joins define in the Physical Layer to satisfy the request.
In a Dimension, you may have multiple Logical Table sources that all join to one fact table. The OBI Server will then decide the best joins to use to meet the requirements.
