How copy files of photos without authentication

Hi,
Sorry this is not an iPhoto question, but a photo question and I did not find a better forum.
The following situation: Far back I have copied into my machine someone elses photos (23 GB). Now I am moving them out to my 2TB LaCie HD. The photos are organized by year and by event. For most of the files I get the anoying message that copying is not possible as I do not have the proper authorituy. If I copy folder by folder I succeed by authenticating as I go, but there should be an easier way.
Please advice,
pyry

You can try the following:
Reset the ownership and permissions on the folders containing the photos as follows:
1 - download and launch BatChmod .
2 - drag the folder containing the photos into the BatChmod window.
3 - set the ownership and privileges settings to that shown in this screenshot:
4 -try dragging the folders to your external HD again.
Note: if the Group that your files belong to are different from staff then you can use it.
Also make sure that the ownership of the external HD has been set to be ignored.

How do I find photos without a keyword tag?
And by the way a further question regarding keyword tags remains unanswered...Why is there a difference between the number next to the keyword and the actual index number in the keyword folder?

I will try and explain in more detail to ensure we don't talk past each other.
I'm in "Catalog" and "All Photographs" is highlighted.
I selected to show the "Index Number" under "Library View Options".
In "Keyword List" I have main keywords such as Europe, Africa and Asia with no number to the right of it.
If I open the Europe keyword I have a list of countries each of them with a number next to them.
Next to Spain there is now showing the number 46.
I open "Spain" by clicking on the arrow to the right of the number.
Now all the photos with the Spain tag is shown but there are only 23 photo.  Under Portugal there is 80 shown but only 40 photos is shown.  Under Ireland the keyword only 11 is shown but once open there are 1132 photos.
There is not one keyword with the correct number next to it.
As a fairly new LR user it just appears to me that the two function don't "speak" or "correlate" with each other.

  • Macbook Pro won't let me move files to HD without authentication. Also when I try to move files from the HD to the desk it just copies them.

My 2013 Macbook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5 won't let me move files to the HD without authentication. So I have to keep putting my password in. Also when I try to move files from the HD to the desk it just copies them. This just suddenly happened last night. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thanks

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US - I doubt that it will solve your problem, though. You may want to post on the iPhoto forum - that's where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.

  • HT1296 how to add new photos without deleting the existing photos in ipad

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to add new photos/PDF books from my PC to iPad without deleting the exsting data in iPad?

    Hello AJ2349
If it is prompting you that it will replace the data on your iPhone, then that is typically the result of syncing with a different computer. The only way you can bypass that is to replace the media on your device and then sync. Now it will only replace items that would be considered purchased items like music, movies, TV shows and Apps and would not delete any pictures from your iPhone. Alternatively you can setup a Shared Photo Stream and then add the Photos there without syncing your iPhone with your computer. Check out the articles below for more information.

  • How can I import photos without using iPhoto?

I'm 37, a lifetime PC/Windows user and have finally made the switch to Mac after years of using every other Apple product, including iPod, iPhone and Apple TV, which, by the way, must be the most under-marketed and best value Apple product ever. I can't believe more people don't have Apple TV in their homes.
With PCs, I was used to importing pictures to my hard drive and then viewing and editing them with whatever software applications I wanted. With my Mac, I notice that when I insert my SD card, iPhoto starts and asks me to import, which I agree. Unfortunately, it imports the images to an iPhoto folder that I can't easily access from another program, such as PhotoshopElements. I have read how to use Finder to navigate to these imported images in the iPhoto library ("Show Package Content") and then I copy the folder of images and paste it to a folder in my "Pictures" directory in Finder, but I find this tedious and also redundant as I now I understand I basically have two copies of every image, one for iPhoto Library and the other for accessing via other programs, such as Photoshop.
Is there anyway I can simply import images straight to a folder on my hard drive?
Also, if I do choose to access these images via iPhoto, am I correct in assuming iPhoto will automatically create a duplicate folder, just for accessing in the iPhoto library? If so, isn't this a waste of hard drive space? Can this be avoided?
Thank you for any and all assistance.
    Kevin

Hi Kevin,  I am in the same boat as you having been buying PCs for the last 25 years and managing IT for SMEs I have now purchased my first Mac (mac mini).  My move to Mac started with the iPhone that led to the iPad then like you I succumbed to the beauty of the Apply TV that then led to the purchase of an Airport Express.  The love affair had to conclude in the purchase of a Mac!
For many years I have used the feature to have the date photos taken created as a folder and all photos from that date placed in that folder.  Every year I create a new folder for that year and the import on PC creates the daily folders to hold photos …
I was just about to ask how I can keep doing this and realised it’s not as important as I thought – I’ll still create a folder for each year and just have the photos dumped in there.  I can sort in Finder by date taken and catalogue in any way I won’t.
I’ll still use folders rather than iPhoto as I want other software like XBMC (on other OS)  to read the photos.
Thanks for letting me rant – I thought I will post anyway as this is my first Apple post and it may assist others.

  • Where can I find how to delete duplicate photos without manually deleting one at a time?  Photos were duplicated when I did a sync with my phone and iPad.  Thanks.

How can I easily delete all duplciate photos from my entire library?  I really don't want to do this manually as I have many photos.  When I did my sync with camera and photos using my iPhone and iPad many of my photos were duplicated.  Thanks

Photos does not have a built-in duplicate remover.
Try to restore the Photos library from before you synced and duplicated the photos from your backup.
Most third party duplicate cleaners do not yet work with Photos, but there will be soon one that works with Photos:
    ttp://www.fatcatsoftware.com/comments/announcing_powerphotos
Also, Duplicate Annihilator is now available for Photos.

  • How to recover deleted photos without a back up?

So, I have a friend who accidentally restored her iphone 4s instead of resetting and, lost all of her pictures....any way to recover them>??

    On comuter, yes.
    On iDevices, no.
Computers have a file system. Whereas iDevices do not.

  • Send a mail via smtp without authentication

    Hello,
I'm developping a web application that reports errors or 'strange situations' to the application'a admin with an e-mail message to the address entered in a sort of wizard. I've read some tutorials and actually I'm able to send mail via smtp only with authentication, withouth i get this error: "530, Address requires authentication". How can i send mails without authentication?

Normally the administrator of those forums is also the administrator of the SMTP server they use, so they configure the server to accept requests from the forum software without authentication.
If you are running your own SMTP server you can do that too. If you are using somebody else's server you will have to follow their rules. You could always contact the administrator and ask whether you could be made exempt from authentication...

  • How do you get Photos to recognize the "old" iPhoto Library on an external drive without it copying it to the internal drive on the computer which is low in HD space?

How do you get Photos to recognize the “old” iPhoto Library on an external drive without it copying it to the internal drive on the computer which is low in HD space?

Launch Photos while holding down the alt/options key.
This will show the Library Chooser panel. Select the library on the external drive. Photos will create a Photos Library on the same drive.
Photos may not be able to open the library, however, if your external drive has an incompatible file system. It needs to be formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled) and locally mounted, not a remotely mounted volume, as described here:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture

  • How do I transfer photo files from desktop to ipad without 3rd party software?

how do I transfer photo and music files from my laptop to ipad2 without purchasing a 3rd party software?

You can use iTunes which is free (http://www.apple.com/itunes) - and that is the only way to sync music from a computer to the iPad
Syncing photos via iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 . You need to sync all photos that you want on the iPad together in one go, as only the most recent remains on the iPad - not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad

  • How do i add files to itunes without it copying all of them over again

i just recently purchased a brand new G5... i have been a PC user my whole life and have just recently made the change. I am glad that I have but i am running into some basic problems. I put all of my old mp3s on DVD and just recopyed them into this HD... i am used to using winamp.. where i have files just how i like them and i add them to a playlist and play them.. how do i add these files to itunes without having the program copy all of the files again to the ...itunesmusic directory. PLEASE HELP ME

In iTunes go to Preferences > Advanced, there you can tell iTunes to NOT copy the music files to the iTunes Music folder while importing.
(I'd advise you, though, to consider changing your old habits and letting iTunes manage the music files on your hard drive, that's the way iTunes was designed to work. After all, iTunes is not Winamp ...)

  • How do i copy and paste photo files

I have only recently become an iMac user and can't find a way to copy and paste photos which in turn is giving me lots more folders than I want.
Is there a 'dummies' way of learning?
    Thanks

I have worked it out!  WooHoo!!
I was trying to copy and paste 4 photos at a time from one folder to another but instead of going from folder to folder, I was actually going from folder to individual photos column.  Probably doesn't make sense to you, but it's all good now.
    thank you for your help

  • How do I organize photos in DVD size folders, by topic, by date, etc?  I plan to set up a new archive on an external hard drive (1 TB) for about 7500 photos.  Some from a series of XP files, the rest from iPhoto.  I use iPhoto11 on Lion with a 2011 MacBoo

I need to know several answers, and I don't feel I can do it without the basic folder system.  Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.  How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?  I have been using computers for 20+ years for photos, and have scanned some on Windows and transferred some but not all that I wish to archive in new compositions, albums, whatever that are not all on iPhoto.  i also am concerned about overflowing my capacity on MacBook Pro 2011.  Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.  Is this my only option?  I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?

Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto
