How could I fix a podcast video that only plays the audio?

My series of videos submitted to itunes podcast play fine except one, that only the audio plays but no video, how could I fix this?

Post a link like this so people can easily right-click and download the feed to take a look at it or copy/paste URL into post.

After looking at the 803 KB file you can see (well, hear) that the m4v file is only audio. http://www.40dayusa.com/photos/339485388_6Fv5j-640.mp4
This might have happened during movie export or file upload to server. After checking that the video plays in QT player locally re-upload the file to the correct directory with audio+video.

  • IMORTED AUDIO/VIDEO FILE ONLY PLAYS THE AUDIO WITH A BLACK SCREEN

I'm trying to put a DVD together of my friends' concert, but every time I export from AVID to a QT file, import it, transcode it, and put it in a timeline, it only plays audio and a black screen.
I went back into AVID and made sure that I exported both audio and video...I did. Then I checked the QT file, and it plays the audio and video.
I exported the files as uncompressed. Should I use a compressor?
    PLEASE HELP!!!

the download video box does not come up anymore and the videos do not play?

Probably due to the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin being blocked by Mozilla due to the huge number of crashes it has been causing over the last week and a half, or so.

Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
    1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
    2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use.

  • YouTube only plays the audio how to get it to play audio and video

I can't play youtube videos in firefox. I only get the audio portion without the video. It was working fine. No new programs. No new plugins. No changes I can recall. How do I fix this?
    I'm on Windows XP

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
*downgrade the Flash player to version 10.3 or 11.2

  • HT5848 Why can you not have a station that only plays the specific artist?

I'll make a Jack Johnson radio station and I practically never hear his songs. Is there a way too make it so it only plays the chosen artist's songs?

That's just not how iTunes Radio is designed. It's like Pandora or Spotify's Radio feature, where you specify the type of music you want to listen to, but you can't choose the specific artist, album or song you want to listen to. My guess is that the licensing Apple has obtained from the record companies woudn't allow that, but you can use the Feedback pages to comment to Apple if you wish.

  • HT1349 I recently upgraded my iPad to the ios5 and now my already downloaded videos will only play the music with no video, any suggestions?

I recently upgraded my IPAD to the ios5 and now my already downloaded music videos only play the music and no video plays. any suggestions?

When you say that the orientation lock doesn't work, we have no way of knowing if that means that the screen is locked in one position only, or that it will not lock in one position only. So try something g very basi and reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
In the camera app, you have to swipe up and down on the screen to move between photo, video and the square photo mode options, so are you even in the correct mode to take videos?

  • How can I get high quality video that will play on my Touch as well as ATV?

Within iMovie there are output settings for the iPod and for the Apple TV. Now I fully understand the video resolution restrictions of the iPod Touch, so I am happy using a widescreen resolution of 640x360 ("Medium" output setting). What I am not happy about is the quality of the Medium setting, which iMovie states is 1.7Mbps. The results are rather blocky to say the least. In comparison, I can output the same movie as "Large", with a res of 960x540 and a bitrate of 4Mbps, and it comes out a little soft, but the blocky artefacts have all but vanished. Unfortunately, of course, the iPod Touch won't play a video with this resolution. I have tried "Export using Quicktime" and can get good quality results. However, the video (although H.264 and 640x360) ends up NOT being compatible with my iPod Touch.
Basically, how can I output a video of 640x360 that is of the quality I want, and that also plays on my iPod Touch? If the "Export using Quicktime" can be used to achieve this, what are the settings to use?
    Thanks.

But why shouldn't I be able to have one video to suit both. I am happy with the resolution of 640x360, even on my ATV.
You can. Unfortunately, your desire for both a data rate greater than 1.7 Mbps (H.264/AAC compression) and the ability to play them on an iPhone/Touch/iPod is mutually exclusive at this time. Thus, you will either have to make different files targeted for different data rates for maximum quality on each device or you make a single file using the maximum allowed data rate for playback on the "slower" device and accept the quality it produces on whichever device you are currently using. If all you want is a higher data rate, use the MPEG4 Simple Profile which allows data rates up to 2.5 Mbps. Just remember that the H.264 codec is about 2.0-2.5 times as efficient and is roughly equivalent to an MPEG-4 Simple Profile file with video encoded at 3.00-3.75 Mbps.

My computer reads DVDs and CDs, playing only the audio. I need to know if I can fix my computer with resets at home instead of taking it in. It is not under warranty.

  • Final Cut Pro X export troubles: exports video with only half the audio.

Ever since I updated Final Cut Pro X, I've been having problems exporting. I either get error messages or the audio doesn't fully export. When I tried exporting a master file to my desktop, I got a message saying “error occurred when creating frame” then lists the frame number. Someone suggested copying the project file and pasting it into a new project. I did that, and it exported without the error popping up; but halfway through the video, the audio disappears, and does so in the same spot it disappeared in a previous youtube export before I tried the copy/paste method. I don't have the original footage; I'm making color correction changes to an edit; so I'm not sure if the second half of the video is somehow corrupted, don't know how to check that, and not sure what to do if it is.
Another suggestion given to me was to delete the event my footage is in, then create a new event, re-upload all the footage into that one, and relink my project files to it. He also said don't delete my event and project folder at the same time, which I'm not even sure how you simultaneously delete two things on a laptop. I don't understand how this method would work though, since deleting the event makes my project disappear since it has nothing to link to. I'm scared to try this method since I don't want to lose my work; I really don't want to color correct it all over again.
Is there any way to successfully export the file suitable for youtube posting, or is this a bug in the system they haven't fixed yet?

    Just turned off background rendering.
I'm not certain what you mean for specs in a specific point in the video, but here are the specs for the entire edit I initially received:
    Dimensions: 1920 X 1080
    Codecs: H.264, AAC, Timecode
    2 Audio Channels
    Total bit rate: 12,083
Size: 951,735,770 bytes (951.7 MB on disk)
Here are the specs for the exported video that has the audio issue:
    Dimensions: 1920 X 1080
    Codecs: H.264, AAC, Timecode
    2 Audio Channels
    Total bit rate: 12,274
Size: 966,817,082 bytes (966.8 MB on disk)
The video is 10:28 minutes long and the audio leaves at 5:57.
If that wasn't what you were looking for, just let me know. I'm not very good with technical stuff sometimes so may have misunderstood.
Is there something I should have done to the piece before I began color correcting it, like transcoding?

  • My iPod doesn't display certain videos, it only plays the sound.

The files are in .mp4 format. I have them in my iTunes as well. I tried to play them in there and I have the same problem. However, in iTunes the files have a thumbnail picture. I have managed to play all of the files in Media Player. They work fine with that.
How do I get the picture back?

If these files do not play properly in iTunes, then that indicates a problem with the actual file.  Did you use any sort of video conversion software to create these MP4's?  If so, what program was it?  Perhaps you should re-encode them to MP4 again using another great program such as Handbrake.

  • Only play the audio part of my H.264, mp4 Video??

    Hey guys,
Im currently running Lion (10.7.3) on my macbook pro, but i also have windows bootcamped on here as well. I was doing a bit of gaming on the windows side and i used a program called "Fraps" to record some of my gameplay, and i then wanted to edit it with iMovie '11. Fraps uses its own codec, and its a .avi file nativly. I used a program called "VidCoder" to convert the Fraps codec .avi video to a H.264 codec mp4 video, so that way i could (theoretically) import it into iMovie. BUT ALAS!!! its not working...the veryyyy strang part of this is that i have done this before, and it has had no problems. In fact, i still have the clips on here from last time, and i am able to play them just fine. I used the EXACT same program to encode, with the EXACT same settings. I cant only hear audio when using quicktime, and iMovie wont even let me import them. Any help on this would be great!!! Feel free to let me know if i've been to vauge, or if you need more info.
    Thanks,
    Aaron
PS. Heres a shot of the vid i cant get to work, and the one from a while ago that works just fine.

Im not a pro, so alot of that in jibberish to me, but i did try encoding it with a lower bit rate (around 10,000 i think) and it successfully played via QT. what is the difference between a 79,000 bitrate and a 10,000 bitrate??
Basically, the Profile and Level define the combination of settings/limitations that adhere to a particular "standard." As previously mentioned, Main Profile Level 3.1 is very common for Apple software and hardware products which appear to come close to the settings for your "working" file. This combination for instance would allow data rates up to 14 Mbps (14,000 Kbps) with 1280x720 @ 30.0 fps while a Main Profile Level 3.2 file would allow a data rates up to 20 Mbps (20,000 Kbps) with 1280x1024 @ 42.2 fps. From this and the fact that your stats did not include the frame rate and/or whether or not the file was encoded anamorphically, I "guestimated" that you might have a "standards" issue in the Level 3.1 to Level 3.2 range for any Baseline, Extended, Main, or High Profile H.264 encode. Your results for the re-encoded file seem to confirm that the data rate was the problem here—i.e., that the video data rate at 80 Mbps was beyond the range of the Profile and Level designation for the file while 10 Mbps was not. Your ability to encode using non-standard settings is one of the reasons that Apple has moved more and more toward the use of device "presets" which prevent novice users from making such relatively simple mistakes when creating files in any of the QT based apps.  Hope this helps you to understand the problem better.

  • Embedded video files only play audio

The newest version of Keynote (v. 4) in iWork '08 will only play the audio portion of video files I add to it. The first frame of the video shows in the navigator panel, and the files show up and are viewable in the media browser. The selection handles for the video files are visible but that's all. This version also doesn't show the video content created in previous versions of keynote. In version 3 files I'd had .avi and .mov files that worked fine. I've checked the quicktime settings in system preferences to make sure that they were set properly. Suggestions?

After posting the original question about the newest version of Keynote (v. 4) in iWork '08 only playing the audio portion of video files I add to it, I tried every possible fix.
Since I'd been using a newer PCI video card recently, I tried just hooking up the monitor to the AGP video card that was still installed and it solved the problem.
If anyone is considering using Keynote v.4, make sure that you have either an AGP or PCI express slot for the graphics card you use since a regular PCI graphics card won't support video or animation files you add to Keynote.
