How could I get some songs in my library to play on new computer?
Changed computer. Some of the songs purchased on iTunes store won't play. Error message says I need to authorize computer. Computer is authorized. I reauthorize it. Message comes back telling me it's authorized! Cannot get out of thisvicious circle.

Yamipod copies music (including playlist). Your settings are stored on the iPod and will not change. That includes the name you gave it which should show up in iTunes whenever you connect the iPod.

Go into the iTunes preferences and turn off the options that have you Copy Music To My Library.
Then, add the top folder which contains your music to iTunes - it will create links to your remote folder rather than copy all music to your netbook.

how do you get the songs in a playlist to play in order-mine seems to want to shuffle them, even though shuffle is off!
Are you sure it's actually shuffling the songs (i.e. the list of songs play in a different order each time through the list)?
You may need to re-order this playlist in iTunes as resync it to your device.

Click on the Audiobooks icon at top left of iTunes window. It should be there. You can then drag it to your phone, or in File > Devices you can Sync iPhone.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases -

My library will not sync with my iPhone. The library was created using one apple id (for an iPod purchased while living in UK) and the iPhone has a different apple id (purchased while living in Aus). In the Songs view hold down CTRL and click any empty checkbox. Alternatively use CTRL+A to select all, then right-click and click Check Selection from the pop-up menu.
I'm assuming you're not using checkboxes to manage what gets synced to any devices, otherwise you'll want to capture the current set of checked tracks into a playlist first and sync with that in future.
