Well, actually the Mac look and feel available in Apple's standard JVM is native to the OS and may not work correctly under OSes other than OS X.
If what you are looking for is a high quality look and feel package, then consider JGoodies Looks(at www.jgoodies.com). Looks is free and open source. There's also a very elegant, but commercial, look and feel called the Alloy Look and Feel (take a look at www.incors.com.)

Can i use Mac Look&Feel in java app under Windows.
    Thanks

i saw it mentioned on here once. i believe you just have to set your own os in the system preferences to mac. or mac OS or something like that.
run sys.pref on a mac, get the os, then set that variable to that value in the windows machine. i believe that is all that is stopping you.
i haven't done it, but i remember reading it on here.

how could having a mac book pro benefit me as a college student?

To be honest, which computer platform you use isn't likely to make much of a difference.  You need a reliable system first and foremost.  Granted, low end Windows machines can be less reliable.  But I have found comparably spec'd Windows machines to perform as reliably.  It does take a little more work on the PC side with respect to maintainance and avoiding viruses.
The most important thing is that you get a system that will allow you to do what you need to do.  If you're not familiar with using a Mac (and subsequently, OS X), the best time to learn isn't when you're in school.  You don't want to be spending time trying to figure out how to do something when you're up against a tight deadline.
Unfortunately, many schools still use some Windows only applications.  The good news is that with a Mac, you can still natively run Windows, so there is no downside in going with a Mac.  You can have the compatibility with Windows that you may need and you'll also have your comfy Windows there if you run into something in OS X that you don't have the time to figure out.
These forums are great for support, but sometimes you might need an answer "now" in the middle of the night while you're working on something, and it may take some time to get a helpful response.  In those cases, you'll be able to fall back on Windows.
Over time, you'll find you can use Windows less and less and you'll start to get more comfortable with OS X.  The benefits to a Mac aren't so much in the hardware, but rather the OS.  It tends to be stable, clean, and efficient.
Frankly, being proficient in multiple operating systems is always a benefit as well.  There may be Mac only applications out there that are better than their Windows counterpart.  With a Mac, you'll be able to use those programs... which people running Windows machines may not even know exist.  It's sort of like being able to speak a different language.  You can broaden your options.  Also, in today's job marketplace, any advantage you can have is a good one.

  • I don't know the owner I found an iPhone4 how could I use this???

i don't know the owner how could I use this???

If you found a phone you should take it to the police. You don't have the right to hang onto it. If it's not claimed after a period then you may be able to retain it. But in any case if it is 'Activation Locked' only the original owner can unlock it. There is no way round this, and without being able to contact him (and if you could you should return it) the phone is permanently unusable if locked in this way.

how to share the Mac folder to open windows without password?

No easy way. Unless you use the same username and the same password on both system then you have to enable Windows File Sharing (SMB) in Sharing, add your Mac username and type in your password in the options of Sharing and then set a NetBIOS name and a workgroup name that is the same on both Windows and Mac. That is in the Network section under advanced WINS tab.

  • How to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

how to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

There's not much sense in purchasing a Mac to run only Windows on it.  Keep in mind that drivers for Windows are a secondary concern for Apple.  While Windows will typicall run fine, things like power managment are not optimized under Windows (you'll get less time on battery while running Windows).  You will also not be able to install firmware updates.  Firmware updates might be necessary whether you run Windows or OS X as they are updates to the code in your hardware and are not OS-specific.  You must be running OS X in order to install a firmware update.  You can do this even if you boot off of an external drive with OS X installed on it.  At the very least, you should keep just a small partition for OS X on your internal drive.

  • How know if used Mac is good & safe to buy? Some test? Advice appreciated.

I need to buy a used Mac on a desperate budget. Is there some test I can run? How can I test to maximize my assurance that it will have some life left and is safe from problems?
How can I ensure that there's no bad stuff hidden nn it that may infect it, or perhaps enable the seller to somehow spy on my future use of his former computer?
I see a lot of ads on Craigs from users selling their used Mac's. I'll ask to see that's it running and appears to be Ok, but I'll only have a few minutes.
I have an old iBoook G4 Panther 10.3.9 . I am on a very limmited budget and would like to upgrade to a much better, newer used Mac. I can only spend about $400-500 max. I'm thinking of laptop or a mini, Intel, PC compatible, Leopard.
I'm not asking for advice on how to discern a more credible ad.
    Thanks very much..

You're prompt help was much appreciated:
I've never 'booted from a DVD or CD" since I've had this iBook for several years. So I must ask someone a few more Qs about that:
    1) How long would this booting take (since I may be on some stranger's hospitality and would feel uncomfortable taking a long time).
    2) Would that be messing up, ie: erasing, all the seller's stuff he might still have on his Mac? Wouldn't want to do that until I buy it.
    3) If seller doesn't have the Original CD or DVDs: a) where might I obtain one, and/or b) if I can't readily get the original CD is there some other test, online or not, that one could do?
I did find my old mac's "Quick Reference Guide" which said "Perform DIAGNOSTICS: Use the Apple Hardware TEST DISC that comes with many Apple products to diagnose whether an issue is hardware related." I've searched all over but I can't find or remember myself ever getting original CD when I store bot my iBook, so I can't familiarize myself with it. And I'll be testing it on a far newer Mac anyways.
Your previous prompt response was most helpful and appreciated.

  • How can I use Mac Mail to send a delayed mail?

I am trying to send a delayed email, meaning the email is not sent immediately
when the send button is pressed but at a pre-determined time.
I have looked through Google, tried different third party scripts available, including
Mail Scripts 2.10.3 by Andreas Amann, but none is supported under Mac OS X Lion.
I believe Mac Mail itself does not support this feature (to my disappointment),
but I read about using iCal and Automator to do my intended purpose.
However, I am not familiar with script-writing. If someone can provide me a
step-by-step procedure OR give me another way to do my intended purpose,
    it will be highly appreciated.

I opened Airport Utility today and it appears to have been simplified to the point where you can't do much with it these days.
Yes, welcome to the Fisher Price toy box utility.. where nothing in the way of advanced usage is offered.
Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do that is reasonably simple?
You can put time controls onto the offending addresses.
But if the hackers know anything at all they know how to access the MAC address of the computer and change it.. so the effectiveness of this is limited.
Change the current setup and password.. You must use WPA2 Personal and I recommend you use a pure alphanumeric password, mix case and numbers of 20 characters or more for your situation.. do not give that password to anyone.. protect the admin password of the TC itself equally well but with a different password. And protect the physical access to the TC from anyone in your home.. because the fact is all security on the TC is an illusion if the TC has open access.
See how to find passwords here.
i forgot my password for my router, how can I change them.
So anyone can discover your passwords without your knowledge and leave no trace on your system.
If you make no progress.. I suggest replacement of the TC as the main router of your network.. you need something with controls.. and even better controls that allow you to block people.
The favourite one now is older Netgear WNDR3800 . .you might need to buy from ebay although a few new ones are still around.. alternatively the WNDRMACv2 is simply the same hardware in a white box.. instead of black.
Load gargoyle firmware onto it.. sorry if I even point to where you can find this info my post will be deleted.. I can say it.. just cannot help further.. so use google.. there are lots of posts and let me assure you this get combo.
You can continue to use TC at what it does best.. a dumb wireless AP and location for TM backups.

  • How can I use mac pro as a server?

I want to use mac pro as a server which 4-5 people can use it at the same time.
Our computers are all macbook or iMac.
I want to share files when I edit videos and photos with my coworkers at a time.
    1. Can we connect each mac to mac pro and share our files as a big memory storage?
    2. And what can we do with this sharing system as a server?
    3. Lastly, how can 4-5 macbooks/iMacs connect to mac pro? Airdrop or other network exists?
    Thank you for reading!

The short answer is: no, they can't use the server as a compute server.
That's not quite true, but setting the server up in this way is complicated.
A single user could log on to the Server via screen sharing, assuming that was enabled for them, but only one user at a time could do this.
Many users can log on to the server simultaneously using the command line (using the Terminal and ssh) but they would not have access to any graphical applications, just UNIX command line programs.
There is also a distributed system called Xgrid that ceased to be distributed or developed since 10.7, that allows you to set up particular compute tasks on the server. However, this is not at all like running Photoshop on the server instead of the local machine.

  • How can I install Mac Mini drivers for Windows 7 32-bit if I didn't install Windows 7 using bootcamp?

Hello. I have a mac-mini (mid 2010) and with bootcamp, was successfully running XP.
I then decided to upgraded to Windows 7 had lots of trouble installing it on my existing bootcamp partition.
I finally was able to install Windows 7, by just booting off the CD and letting it install that way.
But reading more on it, I think I was supposed to use Bootcamp to do it for me...
I had thought the Bootcamp Assistant was for only fresh installs of a Windows O.S. where no partitiion existed previously.
I had a partition so thought Bootcamp wasn't required for my needs.
But now, inside Windows 7, I have 0 drivers installed. I have an AirPort Express, so on the Mac side, I downloaded
and installed the Windows version of AirPort Utility and copied it to my USB stick. Then
I exported my settings to a text file on a USB Stick, then on Windows was able to successfully install AirPort Utility and import the settings.
But it still doesn't find my network. I am pretty sure I'm broadcasting my SSID...
So I need to know the following:
    1) How to know I'm broadcasting my SSID - where do I find this in settings?
    2) How I can install my mac-mini drivers on Windows 7 so I can use my existing wireless network, now that I've gone through the installation without using Bootcamp?
    3) Do I need to set up network adapters and all that stuff in Windows 7 first? If so, how and what drivers do I need?
One other thing I tried was downloading Bootccamp 4.x and installing that on Windows 7 to see if it gives me the drivers that were supposed to be written to my USB stick if I had installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp in the first place... However I think the message it said was that it couldn't install as it was the wrong version. So I'm still stuck without drivers and therefore no internet.
And that is my main task - getting the Internet up and running in Windows 7.
    Other Info:
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 2 GB of memory.
I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and I don't know what version of Bootcamp I'm running...
I can tell you that BootCamp Assistant is v3.0.4, but don't know if that means Bootcamp is also 3.0.4.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

I tried something that worked for me...
Knowing that after my install of Windows 7 wasn't the correct method (didn't go through bootcamp), and the BootCamp 4.x package wouldn't install under windows 7, I tried reinstalling Bootcamp 4.x in Windows 7 to see what the exact message was it gave me. The message said it couldn't install because of a 32-bit O.S. vs a 64-bit version of the package.
So that got me thinging - my XP version was 32-bit, and so is my Windows 7 installation. So I tried installing the bootcamp that came with my Mac OS X installation CD. This is bootcamp version 3.1.
Not only did it install, but it practically took care of everything driver-wise for me. I was then able to see my wireless network, enter my password and I was connected. The only thing else I had to do to get on the Internet was bring IE8 online (guess it ships offline by default). Firewall and Antivirus are now installed, just a few more things to go.
That's one thing that's just not clear that I'll be sure to note for next time... The Bootcamp packages you download are actually driver packages for Windows. That is where the Windows drivers exists that are necessary to make your Windows 7 PC work on a bootcamp partition!
I didn't need the AirPoirt Utility at all (at least, I never went into it).
Thanks VikingOSX for your post. I will not need to follow the steps you provided, but they may help someone else as all of these bootcamp issues I've been reading seem to be very unique per installation.
    Hopefully my solution helps others.
