How could iTunes Match help me?

I'm thinking about getting iTunes Match, but i'm not really sure how it would help me? I have thousands of downloaded songs without their complete information and I think this is the most importante thing for me rigth now. Can anybody help me deciding wha to do?

The iTunes Match service is really very good with an ability to match a significant proportion of tracks provided that they are currently listed in the iTunes Store.  If many of your tracks are previous store purchases or CD rips from good quality sources it is worth serious consideration.
If many of your tracks are much older (several decades) and sourced from a range of media including analogue (records / tapes) it is likely that the match rates will be very low.
The decision on value to you must be yours alone, for me c82% of my library has successful matched and is now maintained consistently across several computers and IOS devices - fantastic!

how is itunes match working fr yall?

I'm using Match with my work computer, my home computer and our AppleTV.
Match works well with the ATV.  I can now listen to nearly all of my libary without having a computer turned on and running iTunes.
Overall My experience has been an 8 out of 10.     Dissapointing. I have come to expect Apple to deliver a consistant 10.   If you haven't purchased match yet, I recommend you wait a few months.
All of my music is legal.  iTunes store, CD rips, direct purchase from Artist's website and a few legal frebies  from an Artist's website.
The initial match took days.  I'm not counting that agasint Apple though. I've got a lot of music and a slow home connection.  I still have about 100 tracks at home that need to upload.
    Problems:
Duplicates.   Match gave me hundredes of duplicates.    --- At a minimum Match should be able to replace an old 128kbps DRM iTunes purchase with the 256k matched version.
Match also duplicated CD rips.   For example if I ripped a CD as ALAC, match gave me a 256kbps duplicate. It shouldn't.   Match has an annoying habbit of picking the lower quality version as the 'real' one and the ALAC as the duplicate.
I haven't had as many problems with lost information as others have reported, but I did have to go back and fix a few CD rips.
I fixed most of this by hand but it took hours.
Music that refuses to match at all.  I still have dozens of tracks that won't match.   Mostly this is music I've purchase directly from a Band's website.  The files are ALAC or FLAC converted to ALAC.   There doesn't seem to be any rule as to what will or will not match.  Some albums matched a few tracks but not others.

How does itunes match sync playlists between my computer, ipad and ipod?

It will tell you that the library exceeds the limit and will not proceed. So if you have more than the 25k limit (and keep in mind that iTunes Store purchases do not count against this limit) the only way you can use iTM is to move some music out of the library to get under the limit before signing up for the service.

Music in your iTunes library that isn't available at the iTunes Store is uploaded to your iCloud account.

  • HT4914 How is ITunes Match different than simply being a iCloud user?

I have an iCloud account which seems to get my music to all my devices. How is iTunes Match different aside from storage in the cloud?

iCloud only allows you to redownload your music purchases whilst it remains in your country's store. With iTunes Match you can also upload your music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) and have it available in the cloud on your other devices/computers.

  • HT4914 I have made a mess of my music library in ITunes, will ITunes Match help?

I have many songs not labelled correctly or recorded using less than great quality in my Itunes library.  I'm wanting to know if I sign up for ITunes Match, how do I get the enhanced, properly labeled library loaded back into my Itunes once it has been in the cloud and presumably been replaced by the high quality of the Apple library versions with all the proper labelling?  In other words, the versions in my ITunes are substandard, if I get ITunes Match will the versions in my computer's Itunes be converted to the better version and if not how can I accomplish that?  Or does the better version only work when streaming from the cloud?
I went into an Apple store and no one there could figure out the answer to this.  They thought I might have to delete my entire library from my computer then restore from the cloud but no one was sure.  Is there a conclusive answer on the way to do this?  If it will work, it would be worth it to me to get the ITunes Match just to clean up my library.

    Michael,
If the CDs were ripped a few years ago using a space-economical setting, then chances are that 256 will indeed be an upgrade.
After you upgrade a few songs as onesie-twosies, and have verified that you are comfortable with the results, you can start doing larger batches.  But I certainly do not endorse any advice that begins like "Step 1: delete your entire library"!
Also, make sure to make a backup before you begin, so if anything goes amiss, you can retrieve your current copy.  Here is the official guidance from Apple Legal:
"iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk."

I have my iCloud set up with the iTunes Match but everytime I try to download any of the music to my phone it says that there isn't enough storage. My storage says that I have 11.1gb, out of the 15gb I have, are available. I've tried to back up my phone but nothing is working. Please help with this if you can!

  • How does Itunes Match work?

If I subscribe, does ITunes Match suck all of my songs off of my Imac and take them to the cloud, update them and return them to my hard drive - can I get the improved quality stuff back on my hard drive to replace the "inferior" stuff or does it stay in the cloud?
Next question - I have a bunch of songs in ITunes, more in a Music folder, and more in a downloads folder. I assume they should all be in ITunes to use ITunes match the best way. How do I get them out of the other folders into ITunes? Where should songs be on the computer (LION 10.75).

    First, Thanks.
So I couldget all of my musc into Itunes (still not sure how) including the music on my IPOD, transfer it by Match to the cloud.
To add music to iTunes either simply drag-n-drop it, or pull down File > Add to Library. For music that is only on an iPod see this user tip: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
    Rick Carlton wrote:
Then could I download them all to a seperate folder, throw away the older stuff, somehow transfer the new stuff back into ITunes, and have all new stuff on my HD and Time Machine Back-up?
There is no downloading, moving or "transfering" required. Everything is done directly in iTunes. Time Machine will then backup everything on the internal HDD.

One more question - if they go to the cloud, do they sta there so my wife's Ipad and Iphone can play them?
You wife will have to be logged into your iTunes Store account to access iTunes Match.

  • How does iTunes Match work - do I keep the music?

Hey guys! With iOS 7, I can finally stream my music that I downloaded/bought on iTunes directly from iCloud, which is really amazing because I can finally free up my storage on my iPhone. Now, the only songs I have to store are the ones that I bought from places other than iTunes and I'm actually thinking about subscribing iTunes Match for several reasons:
    1. I don't just download music from iTunes, I sometimes also buy music on Amazon and Google Play.
    2. The music I bought on Amazon somehow  has lower volume(intensity level, i.e. not loud) sometimes.
    3. I did rip and still rip some music from CDs and it would be great if iTune can match it and then I can just stream them from iCloud.
    4. The quality of some of the music I ripped was not the highest quality and I would love to upgrade them without having to rip them all over again.
Now, here is my question. Will the songs stay if I only subscribe iTunes Match for a year only and then cancel the service? That means if I cancel the service a year later, can I still stream my music from iCloud? So the music I bought elsewhere is equivalent to the music I bought on iTunes (the music stays with my Apple ID). One more question, I heard that sometimes iTunes can't match your songs because the artist name or album name in your library are spelled or showed differently (',' rather than '/', "The" rather than "the"). If iTunes can find the right album artwork for my music, can I also assume it will match my songs without any problem? So all I have to do *if* iTunes can't find the music is to modify the artist name or/and album name?
That's it! Thank you in advance!

Do you know how iTunes match the music? For example, I ripped the CD "Rent [Film Soundtrack]" and there are actually two discs, so I have two album names Disc 1 and Disc 2 while iTunes version only has one album and with different name of course ("Rent (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)"). In this case, will iTunes Match work?If not, is there anyway that I can make it work?
As I mentioned, ID3 tags are not a factor in whether a track will match or not. The service uses a small "sonic fingerprint" of the file which it compares against an online database. So your ripped album having a slightly different Album name than what is is in the iTunes Store actually will not have any effect on the tracks matching or not.
    jerryroundel wrote:
Another thing is that I know I get to keep my music as long as it is in my HDD, but can I still stream my songs directly from iCloud after I cancel the subscription as if I bought them on iTunes?
    No.

  • ITunes Match Help!

Earlier, I had started the iTunes Match process but was only able to get through step 1 before receiving an error message (on my pc that holds part of my music library). Now, all of the music is gone from my iPhone and iPad except for the iTunes purchased items which are now showing in the Cloud. How do I get my previously downloaded music from my CD's (that are in my iTunes on my 2 pc's) up into the Cloud, too? If this is impossible, which is what I THOUGHT Match was for, then I would like to figure out how to get a refund. Thank you!

Hi there did you get an answer to your question or a refund?

Yes, you want to add the device.

  • Hi! i have iTunes match. help?

i have iTunes match. but 11GB of music is on my phone. how do i delete this without deleting the link to it?

    Hello YogaJedi,
It sounds like you have iTunes Match enabled and want to delete all the music on the phone without turning off iTunes Match. You can delete all the music from the phone in the Usage section of your Settings:
Tap Settings > General > Usage to view the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.
iPhone, iPad, and iPod: Understanding capacity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1867
Tap Music, and swipe All Music to the left to see the delete button. This will delete all the music being stored on the phone right now and leave the iTunes Match library available for streaming.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Failure 4001 iTunes Match - help?

Bought iTunes Match. When receiving Information from Apple AT the end of the First Sync-step i always get the 4001 failure.
No help found on the Internet for my Problem. Already tried to disable Match with Hold alt/Option Button, but didn't work as well.
Anyone got an idea for solving my Troubles?

    Covering your questions:
    1.  iTunes Match will not replace Artwork;
    2.  Songs that it has decided to upload, even though the preferred version is in the iTunes Store is sadly a reflection of the current capability of the matching service - there is no way 'currently' of forcing a match, or indeed forcing an upload.
Artwork though is straightforward to update in iTunes and iTunes Match does replicate the revised Artwork to all libraries and devices once complete.
Song matching is generally more challenging - if you ensure that the source version is a good quality AAC by using conversion to 256 kbit AAC from current form or re-ripping a CD; post back-up, remove original from library and icloud; import new file/folder to library and update iMatch you may well generate a match.  Older Songs and Songs with many re-issue / re-masters are often those that cause  the stubborn 'upload' rather than 'match' result - currently no user way to resolve.
