Hi, I created a website on Dreamweaver CS3. The website is great and all but whenever I see it on my laptop it fits perfect on the screen but when I use a larger monitor the website looks a bit small.
I did some reading and apparently I made the mistake of using ' <none> as my layout so everything is measured on pixels. How can I make it so that the page resizes depending on the screen size?

Actually, your mistake was using Absolute Positioning for most of this which removes content from the normal document flow. You should rebuild without any positioning. Here's why APDivs are pure poison in primary layouts.

How to make website look correct in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome?

Hello there. I'm working on a website which was inherited to me by someone who died. So I am left with all of his coding which is about 4 years old. Now I'm working on positioning of the website and i've found that the only browser the website looks like it's supposed to is Safari and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it look right in all the browsers and on a phone or tablet. It might be easier if I started from scratch but unfortunately I don't get that luxury. Please help me.

Hi there,
I ran across an article a the other day where it said how you could make websites think that Safari is Internet Explorer. I forgot to bookmark the pg. and forgot what it said to do.
I stopped using Safari a while back in favor of Fairefox cuz, even though Firefox freezes on me sometimes, Safari will not connect to certain servers...period ("YouSendIt" is a good example...just plain won't send on Safari, but no prob on Firefox). So anyways...this article I read mentioned that many webmasters deliberately make their servers not respond to Safari (so few users...not worth the trouble to script for Safari to many webmasters apparently). The article said that the solution was that there is a way to make servers think Safari is IE (or Firefox or whatever).
So...I hope someone reading this knows what I'm talking about and can tell me the answer. Thanx a lot! *thumbs up*

How to make website links out of background jpeg (co-ordinate tracked clicks)

I am an illustrator working on my website that i have drawn out by hand and scanned in to a jpeg. it is set to fit the whole screen, and i have drawn out where i want the navigation links. how do i get dreamweaver to use co-ordinate clicking to link my webpages together?
any help would be much appreciated!

First just so you know, images are a very clumsy way of creating site navigation. Each time you add new pages to your site, you must re-craft your menus in your graphics editor which gets old in a hurry.
Second, you can't link background images to anything as they do not exist in the HTML markup. You would need to slice up your menu items and insert them as regular images into your HTML page. But as I said above, image-based menus are not efficient. You would do well to use Text links and style them with CSS. This allows for quick editing of menus directly from DW and is web friendly for search engines, translators and screen readers.

I would like to purchase the mini mac server for my 3 boys and set up 3 different workstations (monitor, keyboard, mouse) for each kids.
Can you do this? If so how???

What you are describing is how mini-computers were setup forty or so years ago, and what users were gleefully glad to get rid of when true micro-computers came on the market in the 1970s. In those days the processor and RAM memory were, by far, the most expensive parts of the system costing literally thousands of times more than the keyboards and monitors.
Today the cost of the processor/RAM/Storage have fallen to the point the monitor may be the biggest contributor to total system cost. For example a typical $800 Mac mini coupled to a $1,000 27" Thunderbolt display. The class of system you describe is still around and in use, but generally at a total system cost in the $100,000 range. To make what you are describing work you would need, at a minimum...
A wired or wireless network
One dedicated Mac mini server with installed server application (no mouse, keyboard, or monitor needed)
Three work stations each consisting of an iMac or a Powerbook, or...
one Mac mini
one keyboards
one mouse or trackpad
one monitor
arguably substantial understanding and/or knowledge of the Server application
A recommended alternative would be just the network and three work stations, each operating as a stand alone work station. There isn't room here and I don't have the time to go into all the various combinations and the pros and cons of each, but the recommended alternative would end up costing roughly $1,000 less simply be eliminating the server. It would also be a bit more straightforward to administer.

How to make website fit any screen size?

I am trying to make my website fits any screen size (desktop, tablet, mobile)
In Dreamweaver cs6, I go to file -multiscreen preview – Media Queries- make a CSS file for (site-wide) and click on the Default Presets and then find my CSS files for phone, tablet and desktop. But it does not work for my website, my site does not respond to the size of desktop, tablet or mobile. Can someone please help? Thank you.

The main rule to follow for a responsive design is be flexible.
That means no rigid dimensions, no absolute positioning and images that respond to the width of their containers.

Make websites with .Mac on another server (problem!)

Hello. I have some problems with iWeb. When I start iWeb it pops up a .Mac popup, I click close and the theme chooser should be there so I can start make a homepage with iWeb. But I can't click the plus sign, neither can I select "New page" or "New site" since they are unselectable in the menu. I have reinstalled iWeb but with no luck.
I have also repaired permissions.

Short of reinstalling again, try this...
1. Open up iWeb and leave it open.
2. Open up iPhoto
3. Select a few photos and then click on the iWeb button at the bottom of the window
4. Select "Photo Page" from the menu
If this works, iPhoto should send your selected photos to iWeb, which will then open up a new photo page for you. This action has been known to "reenable" iWeb's functioning.

can I use iweb to develop a website then not use .mac to publish it, but publish it on another server, say one associated with my internet provider?

If you're using iWeb 3 click on the site folder in the left hand pane to bring up the window where you can select the location to publish to: MobileMe, a folder or an ftp server:
Select the option to publish to an ftp server, enter the required info and publish.

I have upgraded to 8.0 and the version number comes up correct except in most sites it says I'm running 3.5.6?? I have continually upgraded and don't know how to make websites see the upgrade.

Everytime there is an upgrade I install it. My browser says I'm using 8.0 and that my browser is up-to-date. However, when I try to install Firebug for 8.0 or any other add on it says I'm using 3.5.6. Even gmail is saying that my browser is out dated! How can I get my browser to be truly updated??

How to make a SL Mac Mini a VPN server?

I'd like to set up my Mac Mini at home as a VPN server. I have read online that it can be done in non server SL, but I see in network where to add a VPN, but that looks more like a connecting into one rather than setting one up. Is there a way to set up a VPN server on this Mini, and at that, for free?

If you have a new enough Mac mini you could use Mountain Lion and Server.app however for Snow Leopard you can in theory do it also so.
For Snow Leopard (client) you can try following various howto guides on setting up the included VPN server software via the command-line. The user version of OS X has always contained the same basic server software such as DHCP, DNS, http, and in this case VPN but does not include the Apple tools for making it easy to setup.

When logging out my I Mac often dont react. It will stay open, or it will sometimes react as it sleep.
When I open the Mac again the screen is still warm.

1. I don't know if you have Adobe Creative Suite 3, but if
you want to make websites with flash, you will need the program.

are supplied by a professional photographer, and the flash movie is

3. If you already know how to make movies using Flash, then
get yourself an Advanced Flash book to to learn faster and become a

might like to get a book on ActionScript 3.0 to learn faster.
You can and will learn faster and better if you take the time
to do 2. and 3.
There is a ton of Flash Tutorials at Adobe and other
websites, do a search and you'll get so many sites it could take
years to visit them all.
