How did I get duplicate (as in 2) System Preferences windows?

Greetings ACS Fellows,
As a loyal and faithful Mac user who has used Macs for many a year, how can it be possible that I have right now - upon the iMac desktop of yours truly - running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 albeit in 64-bit mode; two, count em', two System Preferences windows? I've stumbled upon many strange things in my time, but this one has me absolutely befuddled

I was able to do this on my 10.5 system, but not on my Mavericks system, so there are changes somewhere along the way.
Launch System Preferences (that is 1 copy).
From an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session enter the command:
/Applications/System\ Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System\ Preferences
and you will have a 2nd copy.
What a 3rd? Just issue the Terminal command again.
How you managed to do it, I do not know, but the System Preferences app will allow multiple instances of the app to run concurrently.
Again, by the time Mavericks was released, something was changed, and only 1 copy can be run. The above trick will not work on Mavericks.

How do I get unique UUID on identical systems in Windows?

It appears that all my MBP13" systems have the same BIOS information on the logic board. This causes Windows to generate the same UUID when it is installed. We have a program Kurzweil 3000 for students with learning disabilities that requires each system to have a different UUID. It works fine with one computer at a time, but if several students use the program at the same time, it gets all kinds of error messages bringing information down from the web. The developer has narrowed it down to the UUID. Any idea on how we can change this? Maybe change the number Windows pulls from the logic board. Or some other application that allows us to edit the UUID.

actually for i was downloading the ox x mountain lion. and after few hours it totally got downloaded in my mac. and then it asks me to TYPE MY USER PASSWORD! as far as i can remember that i never put an password for my mac. i have just put my user name in it so that everyone can use it without typing the password. so, here is the Big Problem... im not able to install the ox x mountain lion in my mac as it requests to change some setting after i type the password...!!!
so whenever i want to change someting in my mac it asks me the user pass! so guys! wat am i supposed to do now??? i dont understand cuz i have never used mac b4!

You probably have your system set for what is called "automatic login", wherein no password is requied for the computer to completely boot to the lone administrator's desktop.
You can try to perform the function you are attempting by leaving the password box blank, but if it is insufficient, then you do have a password set, but just don't know it. To remedy the problem, you will need to reset the administrator password. After doing so, DO NOT LOSE this password. Of course you can simply reset it again, in the future, but it does mean that your Keychain, in which you store online passwords will be rendered useless, and you will have to start anew with a new keychain.

(The x64 would most likely mean 64 bit). It may be a Windows based application/plugin, but since I had never heard of either, I'm only guessing there. If you do a search systemwide for it and don't find it plus don't know why it's there, I'd say throw it in the trash (don't empty it yet - make a note of the file path just in case you do have something installed that needs it so you can move it back).
Glad to hear it's not a torrent; some people use those not realizing that quite often there is a price to pay for downloading stuff for free that costs money elsewhere - the software packages quite often include little "add-ons" = malware which you really don't want.

How do I remove email address not in contact list.they drop down when in the "to"field trying to either fwd ,send or reply. How did they get there in the first place. And the edit key does not show in my contacts

While searching for an answer to this problem, which I am also having, I realized coolchaser might be attached to my "Gamers Unite" toolbar I have installed for FarmVille on facebook. To post a screen shot, you first take it, them upload it. To take them, I use and recommend Skitch -- one of the best little apps ever. But this ability is built into OS X. Use Grab or Preview (search OS X Help for full directions). In Preview, use "File→Take screen shot ... →From selection ... ". Save the file in Preview to your drive. In the Discussion forum click the "Insert Image" icon (a camera) and select the file you created in Preview.

Just drag it off the Dock and it will go "poof"
Look at the Options... when you click on it. Unless it got set to stay there, something you did or an app did caused it to be open.
Are there any windows open attached to it?
Is it set to "open on login"?
I use it but I do not have it or keep it on my Dock. It is found in /Applications/Utilities and installers may need to use it.

The font must either be installed normally on your system, or it can be placed into a Document Fonts folder in the same folder as the .indd file and it will be available for that file for editing.

How did I get a 16 GB iPod touch 4g

Make sure plugins are enabled.
Press Command , (comma) to open Safari Preferences then select the Security tab.
Make sure: Allow all other plug-ins is selected.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that can prevent Flash content from loading.
Either as an extension: Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Or HD > Users > Library > Internet Plug-Ins

What do the blue dots next to the addresses in the address book used to address (TO) someone mean and how did they get there. I unsuccessfully tried to use an email address, the message address line kept giving me a red "hand slap"with an ! Point.

The blue dots mean the addressee has a device capable of using iMessage.
Try using the phone number instead of the email address to send the message.
