How did my own video become copy protected?

I just copied some AVI files that I'd recorded with a Canon S60 digital camera. I opened the files using QuickTime Player (QuickTime Pro 7.0.4), trimmed some of them, and saved them as .mov files.
I then attempted to place the newly-saved movies into iDVD and received a message that I couldn't do so because this was "copy protected video."
Now, when I open the converted files with QuickTime Player, the Save, Save As.., Export, Copy, and Trim to Selection options are all dimmed.
To make matters worse, I uninstalled Flip4Mac, in case that was interfering, and now when I open the files in QT Player, the video is blank. (It still shows and plays properly when previewed in the Finder, however.)
I can't go back to the original files, because I deleted them from the camera card and from my hard drive once I had "clean" QuickTime versions.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks...

Hi Eustace,
Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work. I go to Users/myself/Library and there is only a file named Preference Panes and that file is empty. There is no plain Preferences file.
I then did a search in my Finder for "mouse" in the file name and no .plist files came up. Here's what did:
DOMMouseEvent.h (haven't a clue what this is but it originates in the Developer files and there's 2 identical files)
mouse_preferences.html (this originates in the Audacity program and I've never touched it)
preferences_mouse_extended.png (originates in Audacity too, doesn't open)
mouseevt.tex (looks like a blank page and doesn't open. Originates in the Developer files.)
and
XF86MiscGetMouseSettings.3 (both of these originate in the Developer files)
XF86MiscSetMouseSettings.3
I have restarted my computer, my mouse, my keyboard. This is really driving me nuts! lol It is also grabbing files on my desktop and moving as I move the cursor...which is NOT good at all. If it's not grabbing a file and in a blank space on my desktop, it grabs like it wants me to select a portion of the screen for a screenshot! Truly bizarre.
Could it be that my wireless mouse is simply "kaput" and I have to buy a new one? It never dawned on me that it could happen but...
Thanks again for your help. I'll keep trying things.

    Hello,
    is there a way to made videos fullscreen on YouTube with adobe premiere elements 10?
    Sorry for my poor english and thank you

    The black bars are most commonly caused by having Source Footage, that does not match the Project's Frame Size.
    This could be a pixel x pixel issue, with say 1280 x 720 Footage in a 1920 x 1080 Project, or it could be a difference in the Pixel Aspect Ratio. That is most common in SD material, between Standard 4:3 and Widescreen 16:9, but can happen with 1440 x 1080 Anamorphic, which does not use Square Pixels, or PAR = 1.0. With most other HD material and Projects, the PAR will more likely be 1.0, or Square Pixels. It could also stem from the Export/Share settings, having a different Aspect Ratio, i.e. pixels x pixels.
    This ARTICLE addresses black bars in the Program Monitor.

  • Since when did my Music Videos become movies?

    iTunes doesn't have the best video selection, for the artists I listen to in the Rock genre. So some of the music videos I have are in .mpg because I get them from other sources. I tried converting them into MPEG-4 so they would go onto my iPod, but they didn't go into the Music Video folder onto my iPod, the videos went into Movies. Is there any way I can change this? I want my music videos to be recognized by artist/song, not by simply the name of the file in Movies.

    I just called Apple, and there was nothing they could do about it sadly because they weren't from the iTunes store. And that really ****** me off. But hey, I tried. I'll go messing around with the videos, and see if I can do anything about it.

  • DVD +Copyright/copy protection

    I am a sports videographer. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 to edit and burn game dvds for my customers. My customers are telling me that they are unable to take clips off my dvds to create highlight dvds or video files to send to college coaches on the internet because my dvds are somehow "copyright protected" or copymaking proof signal embedded or whatever the technical term is for what is keeping them from achieving their project. I am not wittingly clicking on any feature to make this happen on purpose. I tried to find the problem and solution in the manual but could not find anything. I hope I am describing my dilemma correctly. Is there a way to disengage this feature so that my customers can do anything they want with the footage on the dvds I make for them?  Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
    As ATR states, PrE cannot create a DVD-Video with Copy Protection. No burned DVD-Video can have Copy Protection, as such, but only replicated DVD's, and PrE is not capable of producing such material, even if one is going to a replication house. That is not the issue here.
    Now, are you providing the clients with DVD-Video (with the VIDEO_TS folder structure, to be played on a computer with DVD software, or from a set-top DVD player hooked to a TV), or are you providing DVD-Data discs, where you are just Copying the AV files to a DVD disc, for distribution? The discs would look the same, but have different folder structures burned onto them.
    How are your clients trying to extract the files? With a DVD-Video, the media files will be in a VOB container, and those might need to be ripped from the DVD-Video, to be used. PrE can do that ripping, providing that the DVD-Video is 100% DVD-compatible. The VOB's created by PrE should be 100% DVD-compatible. Not all NLE (Non Linear Editor) programs CAN Import and work with VOB's. In those cases, other software is needed to rip the MPEG-2 DVD AV files from the VOB containers, to Import and edit those. This might mean an additional step for the clients, but that will depend on the software that they have access to, and might differ, client to client.
    As a test, though limited to PrE, I would take one of your DVD's, Copy the VIDEO_TS folder to an internal HDD, then Open a New Project in PrE (NTSC, or PAL DV would be the desired Project Preset, and either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9, depending on which you shot), and then Import the VOB's into that Project. Do you get any errors? Remember, that will ONLY tell you, if you have created the VOB's, such that PrE can Import those. Depending on the clients' software, they might, or might not be able to use the VOB's directly.
    Good luck, and sorry to add more questions to ATR's, but the answers to all, might tell the story.

  • Basic copy protection?

    How can I add some basic copy protection to my published
    captivate files?
    I don't really know what techniques are available for this.
    Can I have the flash file prevent itself from playing if not
    downloaded from or connected to the website? Can I have it check a
    cookie? Is there some basic way of putting flash on the html page
    that prevents users from being able to link to it directly or copy
    it? Is there a way to prevent caching?
    Are there any down-sides to this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ari

    OK, now I have this working AFAIK.
    Can anyone see a way for users to get around this?
    I'll paste the code below if anyone wants to implement this
    in their own projects.
    jbradley88 was right about the _root reference being needed.
    quote:
    You might try appending _root. to all references and see if
    that helps (as in _root._url and _root.getURL and
    _root.unloadMovie)
    He was also right about the need for using
    unloadmovie instead of geturl. It I use geturl, a user can download
    the swf file and play it back locally b/c they can ignore the
    security warning. If I use _root.unloadmovie() then the movie
    unloads even if downloaded and played back locally.
    Also, I was using "FALSE" and "TRUE" as boolean values for
    variables before and it didn't work. Seems flash wants them in
    lowercase instead.
    I just replaced the actionscript in the preloader that
    shipped with Captivate with this code:
    //Check to see that it is playing from mywebsite.com domain
    //just set the url to your domain
    //The localURL's are for allowing the movie to be previewed
    on the local machine it was made on
    //just set the variables to reflect your folder structure
    okToPlay = false;
    siteURL = "
    http://www.mywebsite.com";
    siteURL2 = "https://www.mywebsite.com";
    localURL1 = "D:\\captivate working folder\\Published";
    localURL2 = "file:///D:/captivate working folder/Published";
    localURL3 =
    "file:///D:/captivate%20working%20folder/Published";
    if ((_root._url.substr(0,siteURL.length) == siteURL) ||
    (_root._url.substr(0,siteURL2.length) == siteURL2) ||
    (_root._url.substr(0,localURL1.length) == localURL1) ||
    (_root._url.substr(0,localURL2.length) == localURL2) ||
    (_root._url.substr(0,localURL3.length) == localURL3))
    okToPlay = true;
    if (okToPlay == false)
    _root.unloadMovie();
    //Called when the preloader displays, useful if you need the
    size of the movie
    function initialize(movieWidth:Number, movieHeight:Number)
    function onProgress(loadedBytes:Number,totalBytes:Number){
    var percentDone:Number = Math.round((loadedBytes /
    totalBytes) * 100);
    //Load 20% before starting movie.
    if(percentDone > 20)
    this.done = true;
    percent_txt = percentDone+"%";}
    function isDone():Boolean{
    //by default the preloader will show until all frames are
    loaded
    //this function can override this bahavior
    if(this.done)
    return true;
    else
    return false;}
    Now, AFAIK, when I publish Captivate files using this
    preloader they'll only run from my domain or from the local machine
    they were edited on (for previewing).
    Thanks for the help,
    Ari

  • How do I download videos from iCloud to my ipad

    I placed videos from my iPhone to iCloud.  I want to download those videos to my iPad using the same iCloud account

    And exactly how did you place videos into iCloud from your iPad? Photos and videos from the camera roll are stored in your iCloud backup which is only accessible by restoring from the backup.
    If you are talking about purchased videos, go to the purchased tab of iTunes on the iPad, tap on Movies, tap on Not on this iPad and if there is a cloud icon next to those videos, you can download them again for free.
    if that is not want you are talking about, further explanation from you is needed.

  • Copy Protected CDs - Question

    Hi -
    I have just started to load my CD collection into iTunes my question is about copy protected CDs - I am worried in case by accident I put one into my iMac. Do the new up-to-date iMacs still have an issue with copy protected CDs causing them to lock? If so how do you tell one is copy protected? I have a Celine Dion one - A New Day Has Come - don't like her myself but my Dad is very keen on her and so I wanted to add that one however I understand that her CD is one of those that is copy protected although I cannot see anything on the disc that indicates it is copy protected.
    If I do get one stuck is it easy to get it out?
    Can anyone advise.
    Thanks

    Mac OS: Cannot Eject Copy Protected Audio Disc, Computer Starts Up to Gray Screen
    Please read this article and be absolutely sure that you have an emergency eject hole on your computer's optical drive. If your computer is an Intel-based Mac, note that booting into Open Firmware to use the eject cd command is not an option.
    If the disc in question is copy-protected, there should be text and/or graphics on the back cover as well as on the label of the disc itself to that effect. Sometimes, depending on the copy control strategy used, you can see a clearly visible line on the data side of the disc making it obvious that it's a multi-session disc.

  • Changing aspect ratio of copy protected videos?

    I am attempting to watch a widescreen TV show I purchased through the iTunes store on my LG plasma screen. My usual setup is a digital video out and into the plasma using VGA. The screen in this mode only gives me two aspect ratios to choose from: 16:9 or 4:3. In 16:9 mode the image appears streched and in 4:3 mode I have black margins an boths sides of the screen. When I watch a widescreen video in 16:9 it is streched with margins at the top and botton and in 4:3 mode I have now margins left and right and top and botton. I therefore usually change the aspect ratio in Quicktime so that it displays correctly in 16:9 format on the plasma. Unfortunately the new TV shows in the store are not just copy protected but I now cannot even change the aspect ratio of a video anymore under "movie properties". So the only option I have is to use the S-video output of my old Powerbook and connect to the composite input of the plasma. While this gives me many more aspect ratio options (intrinsic to the design of the plasma) the picture quality is poor. So how can I solve this? I do not want to purchase Apple TV. I have everything hardwired and do not want to change that. I understand that the files need to be copy protected. However, Apple should enable me to change the aspect ratio of a video to be able to view movies at high resolution and without a distorted picture. Any idea how to solve this?

    Hi Sameer,
    Thanks for your note, but the issue a bit different. Clicking the "fit page" and "fit width" allows you to change the zoom on the document, but the viewing area within the pod remains at a fixed ratio. So the document (unless the pod size is set at the same ratio) never fills the entire pod. Is this clear? I've added some screen shots to show what I mean more clearly.
    As you can see, no matter what the zoom level is on the PDF (or if it's to fit width as the above screen shot), it's constrained proportionally (as I mentioned, I think it's at 4:3). Ideally, I'd like to get the PDF so it can fill the entire pod and zoom in and out. Is this possible with Connect?
    Thanks! Appreciate your help.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    That's a problem that all users of a second-hand Mac released after the OS X Lion launch have. OS X, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are registered to the Apple ID the first owner used to register the computer, so you can't use them legally without repurchasing them. Furthermore, there's a bigger problem: you have to get iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand on a DVD, because the App Store makes impossible to purchase these applications on a second-hand Mac.
    Nothing will happen if they are already installed, but you won't be able to reinstall and update them, so I recommend you to delete them and buy iLife '11 on a DVD to install the applications from there. Also, take note that you can't also reinstall OS X, so if OS X gets damaged, you will have to take your computer to an Apple Store.
    Open  > About this Mac, and tell us the OS X version you have. If you are using OS X Lion, you can upgrade to Mountain Lion with your Apple ID, so then you will be able to reinstall OS X

  • How can I copy protect a Labview application?

    We have a high value Labview 7.1 application that we want to copy protect.  Are there any third party software solutions available that work with Labview and provide hardware locked copy protection?  We want to prevent a single license key from being shared to allow installation of our application on multiple machines.
    We looked into Software Passport / Armadillo but Software Passport does not support Labview.  We would prefer to use a third party solution as opposed to coding something ourselves.  We are not experienced with writing software security applications but if third party solutions are not available I guess we'll need to get our feet wet.  Thanks.

    I can imagine that a direct API implementation might be better.
    My personal experience of such implemtnations has been that under these circumstances it is critical that: -
      The implementation is solid.
      Trust and security are correctly established.
    It has been my experience that the above are quite difficult to assure. Where it works the EXE approach is probably better although the exposure to an attack by a sotware kit might be greater.
    The above are why I indicated my alternate technique, not using a donlge but my own system. It is almost certainly weaker than a commercial implementation in some possibly many ways. But has the advantage that I change the implementation and techniques and whoever wants to access it has to start from zero. There are no kits because there aren't a million copies available.
    I guess the right thing to do is to issue a challenge............perhaps with a reward........
    But my experience of encryption is that it can always be broken by someone somwhere. The real questions are by who and when.

  • Failing to import my own audio files (not copy protected files)

    I'm having trouble getting external audio files to import properly into GarageBand, most specifically MP3 files. These aren't copy protected audio files, these are files I've created myself in other programs and unprotected MP3 sound effects clips downloaded from various web sites.
    Here's what happens, I open GB and create a new project. I find the audio file that I want to start with, an MP3 file that plays just fine in QuickTime and iTunes. I drag the audio file into GB to create a new track. GB begins a conversion/import process or whatever it does to be able to edit an MP3 file. I see the progress bar filling up as it does this. When it is complete a new track is created with the MP3 file's name, however the track itself is empty. I don't see any content and there is no audio when I hit play. I don't get any sort of error message either.
    I've tried playing with the MP3 file settings, changing them to mono, adjusting bit rates, compression, etc. but every time I try to import into GB this same process happens with no results. These audio files I'm creating play in all my other audio playing apps, so I'm confused as to what could be wrong.
    Can someone tell me how I can get GB to import these files properly? Thanks in advance!

    There is no bullet-proof way of stopping viewers of your images copying them from the web, but you can prevent total loss by either using a large visible watermark right across the width of them ( of course this may obscure too much or be aesthetically unappealing ), or, possible the best, only put low resolution versions of your images on your site. These look acceptable at the small sizes commonly used on the web, but when enlarged to normal sizes, such as A4 or A5, look too grainy.

  • I was having issues with my 80G Video iPod and had to restore it, but now it seems all of my music on it previously is "corrupt" . How did all my songs get corrupted and how do I fix them?

    I was having issues with syncing my 80G video iPod, so I restored it, and now all my songs in my library are "corrupted" and I can't get them back on my iPod. I keep getting error(-69). How did my songs all get corrupted, and how do I fix this without having to purchase these songs all over again?

    Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time; you can see what content you can download here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
    You can also re-download content using an iOS device.

    This if course will not apply to songs you did not buy through the iTunes Store.
