How difficult would it be to implement an iMessage whitelist..?

iMessage spam is a really big problem to me and my family members.  And getting worse by the week.
Blocking individual senders is ludicrously ineffective and Apple seems to be reluctant to allow us to block entire domains (which would really help).
So how difficult would it be to implement a whitelist?  (For example... I don't want any iMessages from anybody not in my Contacts list!)
I'm really close to disabling iMessage altogether.  It is barely worth the effort now.

The difficulty and time to do it depends on the learning
capability of the new programmer. Patience and a drive to learn is
what all is needed. Accomplishing one step at a time is probably
the best approach, whether you're new or well-versed.

  • How difficult would it be...

...for me to remove the harddrive from my g4, turn it into an external harddrive, and attach it to a mini?
We had a power outage, which fried our power source. Our harddrive should be just fine, but since we have a "vintage" machine (G4 from '97) there aren't many options. We are thinking if we get a mini (which should be plenty of power for us) we could keep the old harddrive, rather than transfering the data, but not sure how difficult it would be for us to do. Do we need to have someone do it?

    Hey there,
I hope you don't mind me piggy-backing onto this thread, as I am hoping to do the same with my old G4 drives.
My logic board is dead, so rather than pay $550 to replace it, I thought I'd remove my drives and make them externals.
The advice already given on this post is helpful, however I am hoping someone can answer a few more questions I have on the topic:
I have 2 drives; 1 drive is partitioned into two (applications, operating system on part one, media and personal files on part two) and a second spare drive that is used for back ups.
When it comes to drives that have been partitioned - will I lose any information from either 'part' after I remove it and turn it into an external? Will it even still be a partitioned drive once it take it out?
Will all my applications be lost?
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated!!

  • How difficult would it be to upgrade from Lookout 5.1 to 6.5?

Hello, I was told that Lookout 6.5 works with Windows 7. Before I purchase 6.5 I need to know how difficult it will be to move from 5.1 to 6.5. Has anyone done this move? If I am going to have to redraw, or do numerous changes to the Database then I won't do it and I'll start from scratch with Cimplicity or ClearSCADA.
    Thanks.

We use a custom SCADA designed by SCIPAR out of Buffalo New York. We've had a SCADA System here for about 28 Years. I have small standalone SCADA Systems running Lookout.
Another Question, because I can't get the Database Converted for one of my systems, I'm wondering if it is ever needed. This is a small system and the operator's use Trending and Alarm Functions but they never look at historical archives. I do have the Object Members set up to Log, is that needed for Trending to function? I wonder if I can get by without the conversion since it doesn't look like I'm ever going to get it to work.

  • How difficult would it be to write a code that prevents sites from changing your homepage wtihout u knowing it happened?

Today I had the unhappy experience of a company or site I visited that installed three programs I didn't want. I uninstalled all of them in windows control panel (]remove programs). This however did not solve my problem.....no matter what I did I could not get startpage to come back. I did many things like go to tools and options and type it in close out and open and it was still not there. Finally my grandson uininstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and it was back.
My question is: Can you not write a code in the software that prevents this from happening and when people install Firefox ask them if they want this feature or write an ad on. Please this problem grows every day it gets worse. Before all you had to do is change it back now one can not get rid if it so easily.
We really would love this feature ask anyone.
    Susan and TY for listening.

Thanks You for your feedback. However this is support forum, You should suggest new features trought ''Help -> Send Your opinion'' or [https://input.mozilla.org/pl/feedback/firefox/31.0/ this website].
By the way there is method described in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences this support article], maybe someone using Windows will write user friendly guide how to do it.
All I can tell you is that you have to lock ''browser.startup.homepage'' to ''about:home''

  • How difficult would it be to replace my 250 gb hard drive with a 500 gb hd?

Would it be something that I could do on my own or would I need to take my iMac to the Apple store or other authorized reseller to have upgraded? Any suggested posts, Apple or other, for instructions? What kind of drive would I need to get and what brand would you suggest?
    Thanks much!

    Hello,
Starting with the iSight version of the G5, Apple redesigned the entire machine in a way that it is now major surgery to replace the hard drive.
It is possible for the end-user to do it. But, the end-user needs to be comfortable with opening the case, and literally removing every part inside the computer to perform the task.
If you want to see what's ahead of you, take a look at these pictures for an idea of what disassembly will be like:
    http://www.kodawarisan.com/imacintel/imacintel001.html
Of course, that doesn't show you the method to get everything taken apart. But, it shows you what is in your way.
You can find a large file containing a disassembly guide here:
    http://www.baconeggs.co.uk/manuals/index.htm
Understand that you will clearly void your warranty by performing these tasks, and that is a risk you need to be prepared to take.
If you are not comfortable with that, you need to take the machine to an authorized service provider for servicing / upgrading.
As for drives, you need a Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive. It should be a 7200 R.P.M. drive with at least 8 MB of Cache memory built-in. And, it should be labeled as SATA-150 or SATA-300. Either will work, but you will only get the performance of the SATA-150 drive either way (the 300 will slow to 150 to communicate with your system).
As for brand, I would recommend Western Digital or Seagate. Both are great companies with excellent warranties. Be sure to buy a retail boxed hard drive if you want a warranty. The OEM drives have a 1 year warranty, but that cannot be claimed by an end-user (it is only honored for legitimate OEM system builders).
Retail drives will be very obvious. They'll come in a colorful retail box, and be shrink-wrapped. They'll come with a 3 to 5 year warranty, and the consumer / end-user can claim that warranty directly if needed.
The majority of the hard drives sold in small shops and on the Internet are OEM drives. If one of those fails, the manufacturer will direct you to go to the OEM who sold it to you for replacement. So, basically they are as is if you buy them as a single component. They are only intended to be sold as part of a complete computer or external hard drive package. In that arrangement, the company who produced the finished package would provide their own warranty, and any claims would be between them and the manufacturer.
So, know what you are buying.
    I hope this helps.
Let us know if you have other questions.
P.S., if you'd like, go ahead and click the "Helpful" or "Solved" buttons on any of the posts / replies above if you feel they were helpful or adequately answered your question.

  • Re: How I would make the Toshiba AC100 successful

    Hi All,
I post my ideas for improvements here, maybe someone from Toshiba reads this.
The original blog post is here:
    http://soltesza.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/how-i-would-make-the-toshiba-ac100-successful/
Please feel free to contribute here or at the blog post.
The AC100 is an early attempt from Toshiba to create an ARM based netbook (a smartbook) with Nvidia's successful Tegra2 chipset.
Although, the AC100 looks like proper hardware design, it became only
mildly successful. Some of the reasons may have to do with the primary
operating system, Android ([see my earlier article about this|http://soltesza.wordpress.com/2010/06/27/toshiba-a100-smartbook-with-android-but-why/]) but even more can be attributed to the design decisions Toshiba made.
Since these machines are now available in my home country (Hungary)
at quite attractive price points (~$250 USD, some people seem to be
trying to get rid of it soon after purchase) I can't help bumping into
it all the time. Sinc[View post|http://soltesza.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/2011/05/09/how-i-would-make-the-toshiba-ac100-successful/]e
I am a gadget fan, I always have my hand trembling seeing those prices
and I need to cool myself down before doing some impulse-buy I regret
    later.
What could make me click on the "Buy" button?
    *More memory*
First of all, 1-2GB of RAM instead of the measly 512MB the AC100
hosts. Why the heck tried Toshiba sell a netbook with 512MB of RAM when
ALL of the Atom N450 netbooks seemed to come with 2 GB at that time?
This amount of RAM would allow to slap Ubuntu onto the machine and not
worry about running out of memory when loading up OpenOffice. Ubuntu has
been demonstrated on the AC100 and even looks snappy. (see this [site dedicated to Ubuntu on the AC100|http://tosh-ac100.wetpaint.com/]). Toshiba could easily put 2GB of RAM into the machine without major cost-increase.
    *Desktop OS and/or Android*
Putting 1-2GB of RAM into the AC100 would open the gate for using a
proper, netbook-oriented desktop OS which can take advantage of the
form-factor. They should use Ubuntu, since that could be fixed up on
this hardware in no time (especially if they purchase some consultancy
    from Canonical).
I don't think that Android needs to stay on the machine but if
Toshiba still thinks it is such a good idea for any user-group, they
could make the AC100 dual-boot, or even better, run both OSes in
parallel (2GB of RAM would make this absolutely possible). Android would
be the light-and-easy OS on the device but the user could any time
switch to a full Ubuntu desktop with an Android launcher icon and start
using OpenOffice or other decent desktop software. The
paravirtualization developed by B-labs would be an [instant solution |http://armdevices.net/2011/04/04/android-virtualization-on-ti-omap4-processors-dual-core-cortex-a9/]for this problem and would future proof the machine for a possible Windows8 scenario later.
    *More battery*
The 8 hour runtime of the AC100 is decent enough but more
battery-time is always welcome. The enclosure has a LOT of free/empty
space under the keyboard due to the ultra-compact nature of Tegra2 and
its supporting circuitry. Toshiba should again take advantage of the
form-factor and add one or more extra battery docking bays under the
keyboard which could extend the runtime to 16-24 hours. (Admittedly,
they would make the unit weight much more but since these batteries
would be optional, this decision would be up to the user. A 24-hour
runtime with a 3-battery arrangement would make the AC100 extremely
appealing for a large-set of users. It would be acceptable that the
batteries are charged in series (so the recharge process is lengthier)
so that Toshiba doesn't have to switch to a more expensive power supply.
(Although the power supply issue is probably not a serious cost
    factor).
    *What else*
Of course, there would be a lot of things to be improved (more USB
ports, higher-resolution display...etc) but I tried to draw up things
which require smaller redesign so that an improved version could be
    implemented faster.
I believe the AC100 line could be made really successful and Toshiba should take steps to make this happen.

    hi there,

  • How to connect Template project and Implementation project

    Hi Experts,
I would like to know how to connect Template project and Implementation project
        in Solution maneger.   Please help.
    Best regards,
       Gaito

    Hey Gaito,
great. Now that you have a template project, you need to create one or more templates within the project template.
Go to tab Templates (of your Templ Proj) and activate 'Global Rollout Functionnality' to be able to use the templates.
Create a new template thanks to button create. Visibility will be set to red 'private'. You ll have to set it to visible so it becomes visible from your implementation project.
You ll see when trying to do that next message 'No scenarios/configuration structures assigned to the template XXXX'. That means that in SOLAR01 you did not define a scenario that ll be used in template you re trying to create
In order to do that go to SOLAR01 for template project, select/create scenarios in tab structure and set in column template value of your template (the one you re creating in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN) and in Global Attribute set value t Global
You l definitely find more info on this in sap document SMI310 (course). I don t know if you can find it on internet
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Khalil

  • How difficult can BT make it to find the cost of a...

I wanted to find out how much it was going to cost me to phone my garage, which has a number 08433 08 02 86.
How difficult can that be?  Google does not know. BT search does not know. ON about my 5th attempt I found a link that took me to the BT pricing download section. There must be a hundred downloadable zip files. The one I tried had 1001 (yes, one thousand and one) files in it - htm and pdf.  I had to guess as they had names like FrameworkIMP8745874574.htm
Could not find anything that made any sense, so I went back to searching the web site..
I thought I finally had a solution, which linked me to  http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/1632_d0e5.htm#1632-d0e5 which is a page where I had to go to more pages. In the end, it required me to look up 3 different pages to find out how much a call to a number 08433 08 02 86 would actually cost.
Do you realise just how many different tariffs there are for all of the different numbers?  I had thought 084 was a local number, but it seems 08 is just a non-geographic and specialist code that could cost almost anything.  The price lists are updated constantly, so if you did download a copy, it would be out of date very soon.
I am appalled that BT don't have a quick way of searching for the cost of a call.  Clearly they can do it very quickly in the billing software. Why do they make it so difficult to find the information for a normal residential user?  Is this not what databases are for?  Surely I should be able to go to a page that allows me to ask the question "How much will it cost me to call the following number?"
    08433 08 02 86

That is nearly how I eventually found it. But it was far from easy to find, and it is extremely difficult to use.
Initially I found http://www.bt.com/pricing/index.htm but for goodness sake, it is just incomprehensible at first sight, and second.
To find 08 numbers other than 0845 and 0870, you have to scroll down to
Section 2:Call Charges & Exchange Line Services
    then find
Part 13:National and International Number Group Codes Used for Specialised Services - 08xx Numbers
    As you say ,
    http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/1632_d0e5.htm#1632-d0e5
There are different sections in the left hand frame of that page that give other numbers
I found instead of your pdf, which is a big download that goes out of date, you need this web page for charges:
    http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/0016_d0e5.htm#0016-d0e
and tehn as each line on the first web page gives a discount code, you need this page for hte discounts.
    http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/1632_d0e48078.htm
Now can someone tell me that this is an easy way to do it?

  • Is this how I would go about letting the user choose a source file and a de

    Hello everyone.
I wasn't sure on how I would do this but what I want is from a drop down menu (which I already have created) they are going to choose somthing.
Once they choose somthing I want it to bring up another window that has a layout like this:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    JLabel->Source:[                            ] (browse) <--JButton|
    JLabel->Destination:[                      ] (browse) <---JButton|
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
So this new window I want to show up, what would it be? Is it just a JPannel or a JFrame with JButtons?

It might actually be more difficult the more I look at JDialog.
Because what I need is, to allow the user to select a destination directory and a source directory so when they click the button, it will open up a JFileChooser. whatever they pick, I need the window to stay up until both directory's are selected (A source and a destination)
Then I'll have an Ok button that will close the window.
THen I'll use their input source/destination strings and do my other processing with that.

  • Upgrading Mac Pro - How Difficult will it be?

I am thinking about purchasing a Mac Pro with one 2.8GHz quad-core "Nehalem" processor and one 1TB hard drive. I like the idea of upgrading the system myself.
How difficult will it be to install a RAID card later? Any suggestions that I should keep in mind when I am planning to make this upgrade? Lessons learned? Any specific type/brand I should be looking to purchase?
    Thank you!

how hard is it to upgrade the processor(s)?
I would liken upgrading processors to changing the water pump in a car. There is substantial dis-assembly and re-assembly, and care must be used to avoid collateral damage. There may be need for some improvisation. The process is straightforward. "It's not difficult, just complicated."
One of the first to attempt it, the principal of the tech site Anandtech, trashed one of the sockets on his processor board in the process and was forced to buy a new processor board to complete his project and illustrated review. The complete gory details are on his site.
In my opinion, most users are far better off trading in their older Mac for a faster one, when that is what is needed. Conserve your time and anergy for what you are best at -- which for most people is not likely to be computer surgery.
If you are anxious about performance, by far the best performer for less than the cost of TWO Mac Pros is the 3.33 GHz 6-processor (available as a build-to-order off the Quad Processor selection), It is "only" 1+1/2 times the cost of base model

  • How difficult is it to setup and configure Sophos SG230 device?

They are fairly straight forward. I am in the middle of deploying eight of their units.
About half way done. It has been fairly easy so far.
The online knowledge base has been great.
    Super happy with them.
Also Sophos offers training hours. I didn't get any of the training hours but they are reasonable.

I did a bit of research and it seems like a reputable device and it will fulfill our needs. The only problem is their quote for setting up and configuring the device is astronomical!I am no network engineer, and I didnt setup the Cisco Pix 515. But I am capable of getting in there in getting it to do what I want it to. I am wondering should I give it a go at setting up this device myself? I saw on the Sophos site you can download the a free home version. I was thinking of playing around with this first to see how difficult/easy it is. But I am not sure if this will anyway compare to the setup of the SG 230?The other option is I got a quote from another company for a Cyberroam Cr100iNG. Their...
