How disable DHCPv6 & multicast trafic on L2 VLAN ?

Hi all
Windows 7 & Vista send of DHCPv6 packets to multicast MAC 33:33:00:01:00:02 (IPv6 ff02::1:2) and this packets received on interfaces from other VLAN (VLAN L2 without L3 SVIs). Also IPv6 send IGMP membership packets to L2 VLAN too.
How  disable it without igmp global turning off?

  • SGE2000:how to enable Multicasting?

    Hello there,
we have a server deploying images via pxe to several clients the same time and want to enable muticasting at our sge2000 switch. i tried to read the help/support manuals of the switch concerning multicasting but i have no clue (and don't want to make things worse too *g*) - help/support manual of the sge2000 switch just explains functions with itself a la "to enable xx you have to enable xx" :-(
    the scenario is the following
we have 15 vlans bound to ports 1-15 and another vlan (backbone) at port 19-22
our pxe server is in the backbone vlan and i want to allow distribution to vlan 1-15.
i would really appreciate any help or hint/tutorial on how to get this thing done.
    regards
    mark

    Hi Dave,
i've read the part in the manual (found it in a previous search) but it is not helpful. the corresponding topics just explain how to enable e.g. IGMP Snooping or how to create Multicast Groups etc.
What i'm missing is an explanation what to do to achieve my goal (post above). do i have to enable IGMP Snooping? Do i have to create those Groups etc. ?  And what VLANs should i group together?...
Can't find any helpful information for this topic :-(
p.s. the switch itself is in layer-3 mode (if thats what you were guessing)

  • How to make 2 clients on same VLAN communicate to each other when tunnel-loop-prevention is enabled?

    Requirement:
How to make two clients on same VLAN communicate to each other when tunnel-loop-prevention is enabled on tunneled-node configuration at controller?
Whenever we enable tunnel-loop-prevention on controller while we configure tunneled-node, the communication between two tunneled-node client on same VLAN is blocked or dropped.
If the tunneled-node clients are of different VLANs then they can communicate between them even when the tunnel-loop-prevention is enabled on the controller.
    Solution:
To make two tunneled-node client on same VLAN to communicate between them, we need to enable "local-proxy-arp" for the interface VLAN on the controller.
Once it is enabled now the tunneled-node clients on same VLAN can communicate between each other.
    Configuration:
    To enable "local-proxy-arp":
Get to the interface of the VLAN on the controller
    Example :
    (config)#interface vlan 5
    (config)#ip local-proxy-arp
To enable tunnel loop prevention on controller
    (config)# tunnel-loop-prevention
    Verification
    Show commands:
To check if tunnel-loop-prevention is enabled or disabled
    #show tunneled-node config
    Tunnelded node Server: Enabled
    Tunnel Loop Prevention: Enabled
To check if local-proxy-ap is enabled:
    #show interface vlan 5
Look for in the output "ProxyARP enable"

    1. First off, which line is line 88? Line numbers would be useful. Also, indenting your code properly would make it easier to read.
    2. Your 'while(!str.equalsIgnoreCase("close"))' will always fail with a NullPointerException because 'str' is initially set to null.
    3. Your 'while(true)' loop worries me. How does it exit? Relying on an exception is usually very bad practise.
    4. You are not handling SecurityExceptions. While it's unlikely to happen on your machine; it could easily happen on another.
    5. It might be worth indicating the actual exception thrown in your "Failed to accept client" message. accept() can throw three different types of IOException.
    6. All the threads you create will be called "New THREAD", which doesn't provide much value.

  • How should a segment my servers into VLAN's in a datacenter design

I am designing a data center with over 200 servers and I am trying to decide how to segment my data center into VLAN's. I have thought about putting all servers in a different vlan to guard agaist broadcast storms and also a failure that might effect the vlan as a whole. I know I can use storm control to limit broadcast storms.
Another thought is to put all Windows servers into one Vlan and all UNIX into another.
Another thought is to group the servers into VLAN's by the applilcations they support.
Can anyone tell me how they do this in a large data center and if any the pros and cons to doing it that way.

As stated you're going to need at minimum two 4000s. Since there are 200+ servers in this you may want to go with the 6000s. Obviously you'll need to do layer 3 and have a couple GigE trunks between those two switches to handle any cross switch traffic. Since you have so much riding in this data center you're going to want some horsepower at your gateway. Maybe look into redundant 3700's and use HSRP. Is this a design for a colo type data center or is it all internal servers to your company? I guess if it was the former I would split it out by *NIX / Win, and keep each VLAN down to a /29 and put 4-5 servers in each. This way, if you do have a problem it is segmented relatively well. There are so many variables, it's hard to say with just a few lines to go off of.

    Hi Ramy,
As a work around , you can create a VM without installing OS and  configure the Vlan of VNic , then export it .
The new VM will be with Vlan ID when you import the "export file".(note : you need to select "copy the virtual machine " in the tab "choose import type" during importing ) .

  • How do I add a Subnet and vlan with a catalyst 3550 and RV120

    Hello Friends.
I have a scenario that i'm hoping i can get some help with. I'll be as detailed and descriptive as i can.
This is for a business with 100 employees nodes and 100 camera nodes all needing IP internet through private addressing and public gateway.
I have a business class gateway with a private range of 12 public addresses. Ther modem does nothing but act as a gateway since i have disabled the firewall and DHCP.
In place of the firewall and DCHP from the modem i have installed a RV120 Firewall with VPN. When installing i replicated the IP scheme of the modem as to not disturb and distrup the devices assigned addresses from that scheme from the modem. I did this because the owner could not have any down time or any disruption to the business operations.
The RV120 now acts as firewall , DHCP , and VPN. I'll address the subnet first. I's using 10.0.0.0/24 subnet range.
DHCP is assigning 10.1.10.50 - 10.1.10.100 the rest are static and i plan to use static DHCP with the IP and MAC assigned to each static DHCP address.
There are 100 cameras with static IP addresses in the range of 10.1.10.11 - 10.1.10.40, and 10.1.0.1.101 - 10.1.10.170.
VPN uses PPTP assigned address 10.1.10.6 - 10.1.10.10.
There are no layer 3 switches that i know of. Just a layer two that is the primary swith and ports have run out, and various out of the box switches and wireless access points connected to the primary switch.
I want to implement subnets into the network and VLANS as well on a new Layer 3 switche from cisco. Thinking 3550 from Cisco or one of the older layer 2 switches with layer three capabilities.
I also want to introduce a 192.168.0.0/24 IP range for the existing wireless network and segment the traffic from the rest of the traffic on other ranges.
I want to replace the 10.0.0.0/24 DHCP alltogether and the static addresses for end user nodes on the same network, but keep that range just for camera nodes segmented.
I want to implement a NEW end user IP range and VLAN for employee/guest networks using the 172.16.0.0/24 range.
Iv'e thought of replacing all the wireless nodes with RV120's and use VLAN. Dont know if that strategy works. Need to think it through.
I want the 192.168.0.0/24 IP range comunicate to with the 172.16.0.0/24 and possibly the 10.0.0.0/24 range.
Any advice on how to do this?
As a side note the next step after this is to install a server domain controller as all the computers are all stand alones in their own workgroups. It's a simultaneous project that will introdue a DCHP, WINS, DNS server.

Hi Omid, it sounds like you're proposing the 3550 switch but you're not decided yet. The 3550 switch is a pretty old device and needs enhanced multilayer image. It may be more prudent to use a more current switch such as small business SG300 or SG500 as the feature set is more rich and it supports around 480 LAN connections.
To answer the inquiry, the RV120W, when you create a VLAN it will automatically create an IP interface. From this you may assign subnet as you like along with 'enable or disable' for inter vlan routing. Since the RV120W has this feature, a layer 3 switch is not required unless you are looking to keep the routing load smaller by routing locally with the switch.
With Catalyst or a small business switch you would need to create a VLAN. After creating the VLAN, on a Catalyst you can simply issue "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" on the desired interface and all VLAN will passage without issue. For a port connecting a user "switchport mode access" "native vlan xx" This will assign the port as untag member of the desired VLAN.
If using a small business switch, it is slightly different, you still create the VLAN but the command issue is a bit different  "switchport trunk allowed vlan add xx" for the link to the router, where xx = the VLAN ID to tag to the router. For access client it remains the same as Catalyst.

  • How can I use multiple client side vlans in ACE?

In CSM we have a default-gateway per Client VLAN, in ACE there is no equivalent command! How does the ACE handles routing in this situation?

    Hi,
Talk about a deja-vu. I was faced with the exact same challenge about a year ago.
Basically, I think you're looking at two options:
    1) Firewall-consolidation - Consolidate your four firewalls into one, having one dedicated interface towards the ace and route all your vips using the ace as
next-hop. It looks like your firewalls are virtual (but I don't know), so it's duable. But I don't know if this is even an option for you.
    2) Per. clientvlan context - Context A for vlan1001, Context B for vlan1002 and so on. Each context handles clienttraffic for the respective vlan and since
each context handles it's own routingtable, simply use the firewall-address as your default route. But from your drawing, it looks like your server-vlans
are all connected to the same ace, so you will need to split that up. Assign each servervlan to an ace-context as you do with the clientside-vlans.
Well, a third option would be NAT in your firewall. Unless you have a specific need for the original client-ip the reach the ace, you could nat incoming clientsessions in each of the firewalls to an interface-address on that firewall, hence the ace will see the clientrequest as originating from the firewall and since ace has connected routes to each of the firewall, it wall return traffic to respective firewall and leave it to him to return the traffic to the client.
Since each firewall will present the packets with a unique NAT'ed address, you can apply different policies, parameters etc. for that NAT-address, if this is required.

  • How can I set up 3 different VLANs on Cisco 5508

    Dear  Community Members,
I have a need to setup three (3) VLANs with different SSID's for students , staff and visitors in a  College.
The controller is Cisco 5508  with Cisco 3502E-E-K9 AP
presently the wireless  network is flat with just one VLAN
    NB.
Staff would log in using active directory user name and password.
Student would log in using username and Registration number  Possibly using RADIUS SERVER
How best can i achieve this.

Scenes  you are using single vlan so the point of have multiple SSID is useless  and the better approach will be using the AD for both authentication  and managing the Group policy for both. In this way you can manage both  students and Staff Kindly see the following link for step by step config  and understand Group policy

  • How to Setup Multicast Address on Solaris 2.6 (Back to the well again)

              Basic Cluster Query,
Several weeks ago, I was thrashing about trying to verify the syntax for setting
up a multicast address on Solaris 2.6 in preparation for implementing Weblogic
6.0 clustering. The command syntax was:
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} plumb
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} {multicast_address} up
The commands succeeded on the first and second servers without errors, but unbeknownst
to me there were errors reported on the second host concerning duplicate address.
              The errors were:
unix: WARNING: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:a6:ed:0a'
trying to be our address 237.000.000.008!
The server halted today after several weeks; however, it is not clear whether
the multicast address caused the halt. Neither Weblogic nor Sun documentation
have been helpful. Can anyone provide guidance on setting up multicast address
              on Solaris 2.6?
              Bewildered,
              Dan

    Dan,
I don't think that BEA specifically takes any stand regarding the
configuration of operating systems. The problem is that the
administration of Unix machines and networking is a very complex and
sensitive subject for most companies (e.g., they have entire departments
dedicated to this) and BEA tries not to enforce any more configuration
              specifications than it has to.
With regards to multicast, most newer versions of the major operating
systems (including Solaris) have support for multicast turned on "out of
the box". However, it is possible for your administrator to muck around
with your machine's network settings so that multicast does not work
properly or is disabled entirely. Most people in BEA support do not
know enough about low-level Unix TCP/IP administration to be able to
properly guide you to "configure multicast" if it is not working
properly. Even if they did, we wouldn't know what your administrator
might have done or why they did what they did so it is generally best to
get your Unix administrators involved because they really (should) have
the knowledge of the machine's configuration.
We do, however, provide a Java utility program called
utils.MulticastTest that can help you to determine whether or not
multicast is working correctly on your machine.
              Hope this helps,
              Robert

    Joe,
The Mac "remembers" where windows are, and usually will not move them back if you disconnect your external display.
Generally what I do if I launch and app and can't see its window (because its on the non-existent external display) is click the "Window" menu, then click "Zoom". This usually brings it back to the main display.
