How do/can my iPod and iTunes keep track of what I've already heard?

Sorry, I bet this is repetitive -- but a search didn't point me to where I bet this is already answered...
I subscribe to lots of podcasts and want to avoid listening to, or even storing, stuff I've heard already. Please explain how an iPod/iTunes pairing can show, and maybe even auto-erase stuff that I've heard... is it possible? My iPod displays video podcasts shows "little blue dots" and I assume they mean "not viewed yet" -- but they don't appear on my SOUND podcasts... This is pretty useful! And I'd love to have my iTunes clobber stuff that I've heard/viewed already... Pointers to where this is discussed would be very welcome... TIA

Dan,
Your iPod should show the blue dots next to the podcasts that are yet to be played (mine does).
iTunes can be set to delete podcasts in a varity of ways. Go to Prefereances>Podcasts> where you can select how long you want iTunes to keep the podcast before it is deleted.

  • HT1339 my older iPod my husband wants to use and his netbook does not have cd drive. How do I down load iPod and iTunes info for this product so he can now use it?

my older iPod my husband wants to use and his netbook does not have cd drive. How do I down load iPod and iTunes info for this product so he can now use it?

Your question(s) is/are a little hard to understand.  So your husband has an iPod as well as a netbook and he wants to be able to sync iPod with this netbook is that correct?  If so, he'll need to first download and install iTunes assuming the netbook is running some version of Windows such as 7, Vista, or XP.

As for importing or ripping music, he'll have to either use an external CD/DVD drive that is attached via USB or rip the songs to another PC you have with a built in CD/DVD drive.  Once you have imported them to the other computer, you can transfer the songs to an external hard drive or to his iTunes library via Home Sharing.

  • I have an ipod and Itunes account, how do I add my daughters new Sony mp3 player so we can purchase music?

I have and ipod and itunes account, how do I add my daughter's new sony mp3 player so we can purchase music?

Home sharing only allows you to stream content from a computer's iTunes to an iOS device or another computer (and to copy from the computer to another computer), you can't use it to copy items to an iOS device.
If the apps are still in your country's store then you should be able to redownload them on your iPad via the Purchased tab in the App Store app on it, and for music (if you are in a country where music purchases can be redownloaded and they are still in the store) then you can redownload them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. Or you can copy them from your iPod to your computer's iTunes library by connecting it and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option and then sync them to your iPad.

  • I lost my ipod touch ver 4 password, the connector to computer was broken, only can charge ipod and can not use itunes, how can I do?

I lost my ipod touch ver4 password, but the ipod somehow is broken, can not connect to a computer, the connector can only be used as a charger, I do not want to repair, so how can I recovery the passord?

    With no iTunes:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Otherwise, find a coputer with iTunes and an internet connection and:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..

What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..???

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

    Troubleshooting
As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. This procedure is similar to rebooting a computer and damages none of your music or data.
