How do I accelerate and decelerate midi tracks(w/metronome) in a compostion

I have finished an arrangement in Logic, and need to adjust the tempo. There are two movements, but one goes right into the other, after a slight cadence. The first movement is at 110 bpm, but the second movement needs to start at around 80 bpm, and then build gradually back up to about 110 bpm over the next 30 measure or so.
How do I do this? Right now at the beginning of the second movement it naturally stays on 110 bpm and sounds terrible. I need it to stay on the click, but automatically change tempo to 80 bpm at the start of the second movement, and then accelerate gradually, like I said, up to 110.
Please let me know if you know how to do this.
Thanks.

At the top left corner of the arrange window you will see a sideways triangle next to the words "global tracks" - if you click on the triangle it turns to an upside down triangle and among other things you will see "tempo" next to another sideways triangle.
TIP: Sideways triangles mean that you can click them and they open something, in some sort of way. This is usually called a disclosure menu.
In the tempo track which you have just opened, there is a line that represents tempo at any given point. Use the pencil tool to create nodes that change the tempo, or double click. Move the cursor around and notice how it changes shape. Experiment with what those shapes do. What you want is a finger, that allows you to move a node and create ramps and curves in the line.

How can I copy an existing midi track and paste the content to another midi track.  It seems that I can copy and paste to the same track, however, the clipboard info doesn't appear to be available when I create a new track and attempt to paste the content.

ctrl-cmd-E does not work? And cmd-1 doesn't work either?
Let's hope then that alt-K works, because that is where you can set keycommands. Any of the presets in the dropdown menu top left contains the commands you need.
I just did it myself, to check it; every keycommand preset there is, contains both combo's I've given.
I have no idea if there's a menu item for the Automation Event list, I guess there should be since there's no • in front of it (• before a command meaning it has no menu item), but I cannot find it, and I don't even know if it works using menu items. cmd-1 should work, always, but it's also under Window>Arrange.

  • Logic Pro 10.1.0 update. automation and external midi tracks issues

    Hi there,
After i i installed the update I am having some issues with transferring automation to region/track and viceversa + othe issues in creating GM external midi tracks...
    anybody else experiencing the same?
    Marco

Yes, that behavior is really odd indeed. Never experienced that and never heard of it.
    There are two possibilities:
    Something Corrupted
This is a long shot, but you never know when bits get tangled up somewhere and cause the weirdest things. As Nigel pointed out, start with the Preferences file.
Another step is to log in to a different user (if possible) and play around to see if you get the same behavior. If not, then it would point to a user file on your user directory, possibly corrupted. You wouldn't still know which one, but at least you narrowed it down and can keep on looking (and hopefully eliminating)
    Pilot Error
As Nigel pointed out, there could be a combination how you do the editing which we don't see at the moment. Couple of things that come to mind
Aliases: This is only thing I can think of that "remotely" delete other Events, but you don't mention that you use Aliases (or do you?)
Are you doing the edits in the Piano Roll? If you have "Selected Region" selected in the Local View Menu (instead of the "One Track" option), then the following would be technically possible. Selecting Events in a Region and then going to a different Region keeps those Events selected. If you would go to the Piano Roll and  and delete the visible Events, then technically some other Events form other (selected) Regions that are "out of side" but still selected could be deleted too. This is a little bit far fetched but technically possible.
Can you "Track Protect" the MIDI Tracks and only unprotect them when you are editing? This prohibits deleting of Events in those Region manually, and hopefully also those automatic deletion. I know this would be only a "band aid" solution, but if it works to avoid having notes deleted, it gives you time to search for the real culprit.
    Hope that helps

  • How can I do a simple MIDI track (no virtual instrument)?

I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to do a simple MIDI recording. So far as I can tell, I can only record MIDI data if I select a virtual instrument for the MIDI track. When I used to use Cubase, I could just record the straight MIDI signal without having to select an "output" for it, and then load up whatever instrument I wanted to use later. Can I do that with Logic 9? I record some MIDI stuff live, and I'd like to not have to bog down my machine with running live virtual instruments.
Mainly what I'm doing is recording the MIDI data of a set of VDrums, so that when I get to mixing later on, I can trash the crappy v-drum sounds and use DFH Superior for my drums.
Much thanks for any advice ahead of time!

Cool. I'll check this out and see if it's that easy for me. i feel like I tried that, but it wouldn't show any signal until I inserted a virtual instrument. I'll try again and make sure I do it right.
What we're doing while playing live is using the Roland Vdrum sounds live (and recording the vdrum sounds themselves, as well), and also recording the MIDI data to a MIDI track. Later during mixing, I'll mute all the vdrum audio and pipe the MIDI track through DFH Sup. I have a v-drum preset I can then apply so that the MIDI data will trigger the software correctly. In the studio, I use DFH and listen to it during recording.

  • Solo And Mute MIDI Tracks

I set up 4 midi tracks using one instance of  Kontakt and loaded 4 instruments in Kontakt. I now have 4 recorded midi tracks. If I try to solo or mute one of the tracks all 4 tracks solo or mute. Is there another way to solo and mute these individual tracks besides in Kontakt itself?

Click on View, in the window of interest, and select Solo.

  • How to group Left and Right audio tracks from a .OMF file?

Hi, i'm editing the sound of my short film, i've sent a .OMF to audition from premiere, but the left and right tracks are seperate tracks in the multitrack session, how would i group them so whatever i do to one channel, will be done to the other

This is because the OMF specification requires mono audio files
It really depends on what you are trying to do with the two tracks as to the best answer as far as 'grouping'
You could select all the clips on both tracks and right mouse click and select 'group'
You could send both tracks to a bus
You could export the two tracks to a stereo file and bring that back into the session
Lots more things I'm sure but a little more detail as to what you are trying to do would help

  • How do I make fades in MIDI tracks without recording the track first

I have "RTFM";s and spent 2 hours at an Apple store with their resident "Logic Pro specialist" who was also unable to use the transform window to, basically, make [assign] a tool for, in this case, fading every dotted quarter note in the whole song, there must be a Widget wiz out there who could make one that could be used as a dedicated tool for adjustable MIDI fades. Yes, I could bounce[record]the track and edit the Audio file but almost all options as far as tempo, key, etc. are lost-wasn't this the reason for MIDI as opposed to analog? no, the degradation of copy/cut in analog sound opposed to digital mode is the reason, it's a pity no one from Apple seems to care about their own products enough to read these forums, stuck in traffic probably, crying all the way to the Bank. Thanks in advance for all the help!

    Hi,
From what I read in your post, there is a MIDI performance which contains dotted quarter notes, which you would like to fade out before the note ends. Am I correct?
What I have done in the past, and I do this to an AUDIO track... is to use a gate. I set it so that it closes x milliseconds aftdr opening, and closes at a rate of X milliseconds.
So I recommend you render the dotted quarter notes and use an audio gate to accomplish this task.
Or, you can spend hours trying to do it in MIDI-land. And fail. This will get you there in about 3-5 minutes of fiddling.
I have tried before to do it with a MIDI gate, but... they are not as flexible or good-sounding as the audio one.
Of course, you'll end up "losing" your ability to change the tempo etc... BUT, you can always keep the Midi performance, and re-print a version at a new tempo if that is what you need to do. I do this alll the time, with one caveat: I find the key and tempo FIRST, before doign the basic tracking. Then that is no longer an issue. But you can do it any other way you like.
    Cheers

  • How to change the key of a MIDI track

There has to be an easy answer for this.
I have a Midi drum loop that I am using. I have changed the instrument so instead of the MIDI notes playing through a drum synth it is using one of logic's piano software instruments.
What I am trying to do is change the KEY of this loop. It seems to only play in C. If I go to the piano roll, copy all the notes of the loop and move the notes up or down, I was thinking I should be able to alter the key/chord that the loop is playing. However, no matter what I do, the loop still seems to be in C.
What is going on? And what can I do to easily change the key of this loop?

How is Space Designer keeping the MIDI track in the same key of C
I have no idea. I would normally think that such a thing is not possible.
What is the instrument? What happens if you create a new track, and load this instrument, and create a new midi region, and load SD? Same problem? What about if you do this in a new project? Same problem?

  • Midi track not playing back

Using LP8, PreSonus Firebox, Roland FP4 keyboard, condenser mic. Trying to record 1 audio and 1 midi track simultaneously.
The audio is recording and playing back perfectly thru the Phones thru the Firebox.
The midi is not coming thru. I tried all the settings in the FireBox's control panel.
I want to be able to use earphones with 2 people in the same room.
Thanks much in advance. I've tried everything I can think of including searching the manual.

I'm triggering an EX24 piano which came with Logic Studio. If I unplug the FireBox and Restart the computer then the Apple's core audio is enabled and I can hear both tracks (1 midi & 1 audio) playing through the apple's line-out/phone output.
But if I try to use the Firebox, there is no playback coming through the Firebox phones jack.
In Logic/Pref/Audio it says the audio device is the Firebox. Same at Apple/Preferences. Both input and output are set to Firebox.
I talked with PreSonus who makes Firebox and they don't understand it.
    Thanks,
    charlie

  • How do I bounce audio and midi tracks at the same time to burn a CD?

    Hi there,
I would like to bounce a song with both audio and midi tracks recorded in it onto a CD.
Despite ensuring that I am doing a realtime bounce (not offline) I am only getting the audio tracks burnt onto the CD - the midi isn't getting bounced to the final output.
This must be a stupid question, if someone would be so kind as to give me an obvious answer I would be most grateful.
    Thankin y'all
    amata

    Hi A,
if you use the instrument (with logic virtual synths) tracks for midi,
    it will.
BTW, why don't you do it offline?
It will be so much faster.
    Kindly regards,
    Jorge

  • How do I create multiple midi tracks each with separate external synthesizer sound

Mac Pro OS 10.10.2, Logic Pro 10.1.1, FireFace 800 (updated), Roland XP-30 synthesizer/keyboard, Mackie mixer.
XP-30 analog output to Mackie, FireFace monitor to FireFace main inputs and FireFace out to Mackie.
What I can't get to work: Sound output for monitoring as I record on each of several midi tracks, each with access to my banks/programs.
Logic automatically set up the multi-instrument and created 16 tracks, visible in the mixer window. I have entered custom banks for the XP-30 and they are working.
Mt problem is two parts. First, my last experience was with Logic Pro 7 way back.
Problem two is that when I create midi tracks (except for the first one I created on channel 1) by control-clicking on one of the tracks in the mixer window I get no sound for monitoring. I can see the green monitor indicator for the track shows midi data incoming. I just can't hear it. It's as if there is no designated output. I have checked audio preferences and see the FireFace as input and output device. If i change the channel to channel 1, I get the sound, but then I have two tracks on channel 1 which doesn't work for designating unique sounds to each track.
I can select "All" for channel and get monitored sound on several tracks; however, they then all play the same sound, of course.
i can create midi tracks (either instrument or external) using the plus icon, but no matter how i set them up that way, they do not allow me access to my banks/programs.
In logic Pro 7 it was no problem creating multiple midi tracks, each with a different sound assigned to it. In Logic Pro 10, I am baffled regarding how to accomplish this and get it all to work as simply and nicely as I was able to with #7.
    Make sense? Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."

  • How do I select a midi input device and record midi?

I have several midi input devices connected to my computer. I use them regularly with Digital Performer. I am trying to record a single midi track in Garage Band using an Oxygen 8 keyboard. In the preferences GB says that it sees 7 midi devices. How do I route midi with Garage Band and how do I tell Garage band which midi device to record from? When I create a midi track (well...I think that it is a midi track) and I try to record I do not see any midi notes being recorded.
Searching the help file for midi provided surprisingly little information. I am sure that this is simple stuff...perhaps so simple that I am missing something obvious.

Yes, if the controller sends the right MIDI messages
What do you mean by "the right midi messages"?
I have a virtual instrument (with for example) a delay effect knob. I would like to turn a knob on my midi controller and adjust the delay in the virtual instrument (as I can in just about any other sequencer). Can GarageBand do this, if so, how?

  • ITunes no longer recognizes midi files how can I play and convert them?

iTunes 10.3 recognised midi files, I could "move" them to the iTunes library and select them. then click on "Advanced" and "Convert to AAC" (or to MP3 etc).
iTunes 10.5 will not recognise midi files.
I think an older version of GarageBand could also read and convert midi files, but this no longer appears to be the case either in the latest version.
How can I now convet midi files? Has Apple decided to simply ignore them?

Thanks to Limnos, I now have some further things to try, but in the meantime I found I had been maligning GarageBand 11. Indeed its built-in Help system doesn't seem to mention Midi files at all, but I found out how to insert them from Apple's on-line support system at http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2009 and it works superbly well - one can even change the instruments on individual channels etc and then save the lot as an AAC (m4a) or mp3 etc file.
I also loaded up an old version of iTunes, version 10.3, which still recognises Midi files and can convert them to AAC or mp3 but in so doing some volume seems to be lost.
But the winner so far for me has been Audacity, free software. One needs to add a LAME encoder for mp3 output, I installed Soundflower and routed the playback of the midi file available in the Finder (in fact for the whole machine, while playing the midi file) and declared Soundflower as the input for Audacity. I could then use Audacity's effects menu to increase the volume throughout the track and save it. I then, using the Sound preferences of the machine, switched back to the inbuilt speakers and was able to listen to a higher volume version, playable in iTunes 10.5. More faithful to the original midi file than the GarageBand version.
See instructions at http://ask.brothersoft.com/tags/convert-midi-to-mp3/ and in particular one of the links http://ask.brothersoft.com/how-to-convert-a-midi-to-a-mp3-using-audacity-26125.h tml
This is for Windows but for Mac it's very similar/ - still Audacity. BUT the instructions in the last link don't seem to quite work, which is why I had to use Soundflower. I can import the midi file, I can select it, but then the export item on the file menu remains greyed out and unuseable, so I must presumably be missing some plug-in. Also Audacity keeps telling me it can't find various ffmpeg files even though I thought I had installed them correctly. I'm obviously missing something here, but at least I can now get my midi files into aac or mp3 format again at last.
For Soundflower see http://cycling74.com/soundflower-landing-page/ and http://kineme.net/forum/General/soundflowerforlion
and there is a useful tutorial by Nowjobless on YouTube at
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FGOIW08gA&feature=related
Good luck to anyone else facing the same problems, it remains to be seen how to "convert" midi files to mp3 in Audacity without recourse to Soundflower.
