How do I access an older backup for my iPhone 5 through iTunes?

Does anybody know how to access and restore from an older iPhone backup?
When I upgraded to an iMac, iTunes was not able to recognize my iPhone and rest it.
Needless to say, I lost ALL of my important data.
HELP!

iTunes only stores a single backup, the last one. If there is a backup available, it is listed in iTunes / Preferences / Devices. Unfortunately and even if there is a backup on hand, if the thing don't wanna play ball and offer a restore, you are out of luck.
Maybe the backup is from too old a version and incompatible with a current phone?

Why don't you talk to apple and find out if backup exists? That conversation with apple will stop your guessing.

  • How can I find an older backup of my iPhone?

Please help I have  iPhone 4.  Today I decided to install iOS 7.0.2 by plugging it into my computer, since I was having soo may problems with iOS7.  Anyways I had backed up my iPhone to my account on my computer previously and it showed all my apps, etc.  When I went to update the software it asked if I wanted to back it up I of course clicked yes it looked like it was backing up just fine, but then it gave me an error 6 that said it could not restore my phone.  After going through all the trouble shooting tips the last one was to restart my computer I did.  And when the computer turned back on it said I had to restore phone to factory setting then log into my iTunes account since my phone had not been backed up in 16 weeks.  Now I don't know how long ago I backed it up last but I know it was sooner than 16 weeks.  Any ways I then restored the back up to my phone, and only some of the information and apps were backed up.  It is strange apps that I have had on there for over a year maybe even two years did not get put back on, however pictures that I took yesterday are still on my phone please help I have alot of importnat information saved on allot of those apps like password app and one note.
Is there a way I can restore my phone back to the settings even if it was from a few weeks ago when I last backed up to install iOS 7.
Not sure if it maters but I always back up to "this computer" and not "iCloud"

I have done a new backup (iCloud) of my new iPhone (5S) and I can't delete the backup of the old one (5). Why ? How could I delete this backup which is usefull now ? iCloud tells me that the backup is still in use...

  • How to resolve error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again."

I inadvertently deleted my iPhone backup on my MacBook Pro. I restored iPhone to factory settings and then synced remotely with iCloud. However the error message repeatedly states:
iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again.
Any ideas as to how this can be resolved please. Thank you very much.

My wife's iPhone 5 would not backup, after upgrading to iOS 8.     The "genius" at the Apple store succeeded in DELETING, the only recent backup of her phone so
    recovery became more critical.
I followed all the procedures for troubleshooting it, but still it would try to backup and then stop due to an error. We particularly wanted to preserve some game data/history/progress that she'd been working on for years.      This game (Dream Fish) would no longer open after the iOS 8 upgrade ... and the phone would not successfully backup, and so we had no confidence that it would restore from an older backup either.       I googled for solution and found Phoneview and iFunBox.      These apps allow you to see & access data files in the iPhone.      Phoneview was too fragile and crashed when copying a file any size.
I found "iFunBox".     iFunBox was excellent.      I used iFunBox to recover her game data.    It allows you to make a copy of data files that reside on the iPhone... and store them as a manual backup on the Mac.
And in the process I found 2 games that caused iFunBox to crash.      The 2 games in question were not important enough to try to keep, so I deleted them from the iPhone.
So then, I had a manual backup of the important iPhone data, and had eliminated two game files that apparently had a conflict with iOS 8.
My next Backup attempt was successful.        The iPhone with iOS 8 would now backup to both the Mac and to the Cloud.
Next I deleted Dream Fish from the iPhone and downloaded a fresh version from the Cloud.    The new Dream Fish with no history opened in iOS 8.
Then I used iFunBox to copy my wife's Dream Fish data history from the Mac back into the new game.
Once the transfer was complete, Dream Fish would now OPEN and all of her progress was there and working like normal.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I access an older version in the App Store?

Does anyone know how do I access an older version of FCP X in the App Store to reinstall on an older computer that won't support this latest version? I recall minimum spec on older version being 2GB RAM (4GB recommended). Now it's 4GB minium (8GB recommended) and I cant install via my Apps Store account. I know upgrading RAM is an option but I am looking to get back the version I had running before I had to wipe & reinstall the laptop this past week as I'd prefer not to have to send money on this older machine (2008 unibody MacBook with 3GB RAM)
Thanks in advance for any help/advice (or offers of cheap but reliable UK based RAM sources)

    iBungie,
I hate to say this, but Apple would like you to buy, a new MacBook, or iMac, or new Mac Pro
That way, you can do, what they want you, to do.
I've noticed a change in their business practices, over the last 4 yrs.
I tried to update to FCPX.1, but was told I would have to update the OS to 10.9 from 10.7.
When I updated from 10.6.x to 10.7 I lost the use of 5 3rd party software programs.
I do not want to lose, the use of other programs, by updateing the OS to 10.9.
Been a Mac user for over 25 yrs. Lived in Cupertino before and during the growth of Apple.
Meet both Woz & Jobs, during the late 70's & early 80's.
If you can afford a new system, then do. If not, look at systems from around 2012 that can handle the RAM, plus they will still have optic drives and hard drives. I have clients that want a disk.
    Any way good luck.

  • After resetting Time Capsule, how do I access my previous backups?

After re-setting Time Capsule, how do I access my previous backups?

    Access it to do what??
You can migrate the data.. see Pondini instructions for migrate. (or from apple).
His instructions are a little out of date.. but still more useful than the over generalised stuff Apple give you.
    http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks
If you wanted to continue using the backup with TM.. no you cannot inherit a backup from a different machine.
To simply access the backup .. then open the sparsebundle from finder or TM..
See the instructions in Pondini.. Q15-17 here.

If you want to do something else you need to tell us what it is??

  • How can I access a calendar backup from my old iPhone?

How can I access a calendar backup from my old iPhone?
I recently had to get a replacement iPhone 4. The tech at the Apple Store thought that I might have had a software problem and recommended that I not "restore from backup," but start this phone as a new device and just sync the apps and what-not. My calendar on my computer was different than the one on my old phone, though, and now I need the data from my old iPhone calendar. I did back up my old phone just prior to taking it to the Apple Store.
    HELP!

Well what you can do is update to ios5 then use icloud to sync your calandar up to your phone then restore your phone as new and when prompted in the new phone setup put in your icloud username and password and you will have your calandar events back.

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.
there seriously should be more than two ways to solve this other wise apple is useless and we will never buy another apple product.
    Seriously? It's physically broken!

  • HT1766 Error message: "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone.  Delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again." But how do I delete the backup?

Error message when attempting to backup up iPhone4S to Mac says "iTunes could not back up the iphone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone.  Delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again." But how do I delete the backup? Can't find answer to that anywhere.

We had this problem after upgrading to iOS 8.       The iPhone 5 would not backup either to the cloud or to the computer.   Backup always ended with an error message.
Long story short, with the help of iFunBox ( which I used to make manual backups of some important iPhone data files ), I discovered two games that
would crash iFunBox.      They were not important games for us, so I didn't try to isolate the offending data files.     And I deleted the two games from the iPhone.
Apparently these two games conflicted with iOS 8 just as they did with iFunBox.      The next backup without those games was then successful.
I backed up to both the Mac and the cloud.
    Hope this helps.

Not sure where you backup to.
ITunes keeps the latest backup only.
Icloud keeps the 3 last backup.

How do I clear a huge backup for my printer waiting in my computer?

    Hey luddite58!
You can either open the print queue and remove them by clicking 'Printer' and then 'Cancel all documents' but some people find an easier way is to use our print diagnostic utility which you can download here.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I restore from older backups on iCloud

How do I restore from older backups on iCloud?

Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings (which will erase the phone), then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup.  Sign into your iCloud account, agree to the terms and conditions and you will then be asked what backup you want to restore from.  (Apple states that it maintains your three most recent backups.)
