How do I access my time capsule over the internet

How do I access my time capsule over the internet. I've already set it up to share over WAN, but I have ATT so my TC is connected to the router provided by ATT can I still access my TC via the internet even though its not directly connected to the Ethernet?

The TC should be in bridge mode.. not setup to share over wan.. that will never work. That is assuming you haven't bridged the ATT router.
Once you bridge the TC see if you can setup BTMM using icloud settings in the TC. As per the Apple docos.. here.
You should also be able to directly access the TC since you have a router with dyndns client at a guess.. the setup is simply forward port 548 to the TC.
Google search this.. there is huge number of resources available. eg

  • Can I access my Time Capsule over the Internet?

I want to know if it is possible to access my time capsule Hard Disk over the internet, How do I do it?

"Launch AirPort Utility and select "Manual Setup". Click on the "Disks" icon in the title bar, then on the "File Sharing" tab. That's where you set your Time Capsule to share as you want."
OK, checked that last night at home.
I'm at the hotel now with a good internet connection via ethernet.
What do I do now? Please provide step by step rather than a general statement.

  • Access Time Capsule over the internet

Hey guys! I have a problem. I cannot access my Time Capsule over the internet.
I have a Time Capsule 2013 which connects to the internet using a PPPoE connection and which provides wireless connection to other peripherals in my house.
The TC is running the latest firmware and I've added my iCloud account in AirPort Utility settings, in order to access the TC over the internet, via Back to My Mac.
Whenever I'm away from home, I cannot access the TC.
I see it in Finder's sidebar, but whenever I press the "Connect As.." button I get the following error:
"There was a problem connecting to the server “Time Capsule”.
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
I must add that I have a dynamic IP. Whenever the Time Capsule restarts, it gets a different IP.
    Am I missing something?
Please help me. It's really important for me to be able to reach it when I'm away from home.

So the modem is bridged and the TC is doing the PPPoE authentication.. and it gets a public IP on the WAN interface.
The dynamic nature of the IP is not a problem with the BTMM and iCloud type system which should keep the intermediate connection in the cloud up to date.
What about the connection at the other side.. are you getting a public IP.. are you behind a firewall or restricted access? Remember both sides of this have to work.
See this thread.. you are not alone.. all is not sweetness and light unless you get a proper business account with static IP.

Apple info has a bit about issues that people experience.. and Tesserax has some setup info.
    Remote Access
I would use the public IP and see if it works.. that means you need to check the IP before you leave home or use your phone tether and do the test at home so you can type in the public ip and use direct access .. at least to test it.

  • I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house and the mobile WiFi is our only option). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

    LOL!!
I am in Australia and the ISP... I think both the main ones would fit your description to a T.. big T in particular.
Your router is really unsuitable.. if it is only wireless and no ethernet.. just buy an ethernet one.
Do a search on ebay.. 3g router.
But you can get the TC to join a wireless network.
It is a non-standard setup that Apple will not support.. the option is hidden.
If you are on Lion download the 5.6 utility. Go to the wireless set up page and hold down the option key whilst selecting wireless mode.. a new option, join will appear. You can then put in the ssid and passkey of the 3g router.
But please note the end result of this setup..
very slow speed. The TC is now a second wireless hop from your clients.. this will halve the speed.
In this mode the ethernet are deactived.. for reasons only Apple know, they decided you should not use ethernet when doing this.

Click here and follow the instructions. If the Time Capsule is acting as the router, skip the port forwarding instructions.

  • How do i find my time capsule on the internet?

I use a time capsule (combo wireless router and external hard drive) but I cannot see it on the network.  How do I make it visible?  I would like to merge all my iPhoto libraries on that drive so I can view them from any computer or device and not have duplicates scattered across multiple hard drives.

  • How do I backup my time capsule to another time capsule over the internet

I have a Time Capsule that I use for backups locally within my own home. My parents have one as well that they use for their backups. Ideally it would be great to have my backups offsite -- if your house burns down it doesn't help that your backups were in the house...
So is there a way to copy (automatically) the image from one TC to another and vice versa over the internet?

No, there isn't, and even if there was, it would take forever, or possibly longer.
Any backup done over the internet will be quite slow; upload speeds are generally much, much slower than download speeds.  Some of the companies that do internet backups, such as Mozy, Carbonite, etc., actually ship you an external HD for the first backup.  You ship that back, they load it onto their servers, then do "incremental" backups of what's changed over the net.
In addition, it's not a good idea to back up a backup; any problem with the original will be copied to, and perhaps magnified, on the copy.
A much better approach is to get a portable external HD; do backups to it, then take it to a secure off-site location.  See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for some suggestions, especially the pink box there.
It still might be a good idea to have some limited data backed-up over the internet, such as relatively-small things and/or things that rarely change.

  • Time Capsule over the Internet?

I am having a problem "seeing" my Time Capsule drive when I am away from my home network. Maybe I have miss-understood the latest Apple posting/news about Time Capsule but I thought that I should be able to see and access the Time Capsule drive over the internet while away from my home network.....But no, it doesn't show in the Finder. My Time Capsule is only a few months old and has been updated to the latest firmware. Airport Utility is also up to date.
So what am I missing here? Should I be able to "see" my Time Capsule drive over the internet, if so how do I set this up, or have I totally miss-understood this?
    Thanks......Peter

    Hi Peter,
    Try the following:
In the Finder at the top of your screen, click Preferences, then click the General Tab.
Under the Show These Devices on the Desktop listing, make sure there is a check mark next to Connected Servers.
Next, open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup and then click on the Internet icon at the top of the pane. Scan down to IP Address and make note of it. For example, it might be xx.xx.xx.xx
Next, in the Finder menu items at the top of the screen, click on the Go menu and then click on Go To Server. The short is the Apple key followed by K
In the next window, type in afp://xx.xx.xx.xx (same IP address that you noted above). This will bring up a log in box for your Time Capsule. You will need your access password for the device.
Try this on your home network first to verify that you have the correct settings. Then try from a remote location. Depending on how your network is setup, you may need to also check the box next to Allow Setup Over WAN in the Time Capsule settings in AirPort Utility.

  • Air Port Extreme and Time Capsule Over the internet

Ok so here is my problem.
I have an Airport Extreme with my time capsule bridged to it for local storage, and more ethernet ports.
But I cannot seem to get file sharing to work over the internet with the time capsule.
I do not have the share over wan checkbox and I do not wan to use mobile me.
I also have a DYNDNS hostname to redirect to my ip.
This works if I turn on file sharing on my computer but I want to use the time capsule as my server not folders on my computer, im on my computer haha.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

  • How do I connect my time capsule to the internet wirelessly

I recently moved to a house where the internet is provided wielessly. So I don't have access to the modem to hook up my Time capsule. Is there away I can hook it up with out connecting it to a modem? If so how might I go about doing so?

Go to the wireless area of the airport setup.. and select wireless mode but hold down the option key.
A new option will present, join wireless network.
This is really poor way to run the TC though. It will stop ethernet working. And you will double hop wireless to the TC.
Would it be possible to have the TC standalone and plugged by ethernet into the computer.. that would be a much better solution. or for the time being just use external drive..

  • How do I stop my Time Capsule seeking the internet?

I have taken my Time Capsule out of the internet connection feed, as I found it was slowing things down. My internet connection is much faster now that it comes to my iMac direct from the 50MB feed via the wireless router supplied by my provider. So I have connected the Time Capsule to my iMac via ethernet cable, and it now backs up much more speedily than it did when doing it wirelessly. The problem I have is that I keep getting an error screen from Airport Utility telling me that my Time Capsule is reporting problems. The problem (I assume) is that it is trying to find the internet but can't. Can I disable this so that it works simply as a hard-wired back up disk?

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utillities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line on the summary page) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining.
You should be given an option to "ignore" the problem, which is probably a message that you do not have an Internet connection at the Time Capsule
Click Update to save the new settings and the Time Capsule will display a green light in 25-30 seconds

  • Is it possible to connect to my first gen time capsule over the Internet ?

And does my mac have to be left on

It should be possible to connect if you have public ip address on the TC.. so it depends on how you have it connected to your broadband.
The alternative is to make sure you have forwarded all the ports required in the modem/router you are using. I suggest you just google for the ports info for your particular model modem/router
Your Mac does not have to be on.

  • Best way to access Time Capsule from the Internet?

I wanted to see if anyone knew of a program or setting I can use in order to access Time Capsule from the internet? I know that probably I will not be able to at this point access it directly, even though it is connected to the internet through my modem, but I do have a Mac at home that is connected to Time Capsule. Isn't their a way that I could connect to the Mac, but not through Back to My Mac, that would show Time Capsule as connected to it, so that way I could access the files? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is possible to mount the TC as a network hard drive when outside your regular network.
    1) You will need to reconfigure your router to forward the ports used for AFP (by default 548) to the Time Capsule.
    2) Then when outside the network make sure Finder is active, press Apple+K to bring up the 'Connect To Server' dialog.
    3) Input the WAN IP address of the network to which the TC resides on.
    4) You will be asked for the password used to access TC.
    5) The TC should appear as a mounted drive.
It is then possible to access files on the TC as well as do a TM backup. To make life easier you can drag the mounted TC into your dock for easier access in the future.
However, it is obviously recommended to use a strong password to protect the TC (configurable using Airport Utility in the 'Disks/File Sharing' tab). You may also need to use a service like DynDNS if your network does not use a static IP address.
But I am using my home networks' Time Capsule successfully from the office.
