How do I achieve certain effects?

Hello,
On my first project in PSE12 I want to use this photo of a man and put a vampire bite on his neck surrounded by a lipstick print: I want to make the lipstick print look fresh and glossy and actually look like its on his neck and not just a 2 dimensional bad paint job. I have a good idea as to how to make the bite marks....but I'm having a hard time trying to bevel a selection: I make my selection, I go to the effects menu, pick bevel, click once and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
Please help me I'm stuck .
Thank You for your time.

Try copying/pasting the selection to a new layer. Then do the bevel on that layer.

  • How do I achieve this effect in Photoshop CS5?

    Hi all,
I'm using Photoshop CS5 and I'd like to know how can I achieve the following effect: I have a full color picture of a woman, like the one below, and I would like to replicate this effect in which the full color woman is blended with the background turning her into purple and black only.
I'm a newbie, and I am not too familiar with the 'channels' concept, so I would appreciate some specific reply -not necessarily step-by-step but almost, lol!
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Instead of using channels, you can convert your image to black and white then create a new layer and fill that layer with your color of choice, then either use the blend modes and/or reduce the opacity until it looks good to you.
Another way is use the black and white adjustment layer and enable the colorize check box and choose purple.
If I recall the hue/saturation/luminance adjustment layer also has a colorize check box. (I would check but I am in the process of redoing my drive)

  • Newbie - How do I achieve this effect please?

    Hi Folks
I'm really quite new to Photoshop, and am trying to learn as I go. I wondered if someone could advise me how to achoieve the layered effect shown in the attached?
Also if I was using a similar picture, what is the best way to 'blend' the left hand side of the image into a light/white background?
Any advice really would be appreciated. I'm using CS4.

Like has been said to me before, there are a 100 ways to do any one thing.
Another easy way is  simply using a gradient mask.
Take the image, placed over a white background,
Target the image layer then choose the Create Layer Mask at the bottom of the layer tool bar.
    Now choose your gradient tool
and drag it accross the image to taste.
    Hope this helps
The advantage to this way is that it does not harm the original and if you don't like the result of the first time you swipe the tool accross it, you simply swipe  your grandient tool accross again.

  • How do I achieve this effect (Fireworks)?

    Hey guys!
I'm brand new to the forum and a very "green" web designer. I'm hoping that someone wouldn't mind sharing their expertise with a newbie such as myself with what I fear is a very easy problem, haha.
In the following link there is a graphic in the upper-left corner that reads "Gateway Studios." The word "Gateway" is transparent so that it shows through the orange block and allows the background to come through:
    http://themeforest.net/item/gateway-studios-for-wordpress/full_screen_preview/82145
I am interested in recreating this effect. What sort of process(es) would I need to perform to duplicate this outcome? The images is saved as a .png, so I'm wondering if I need to use Fireworks. I have CS4 and am eager to apply this effect to some of my graphics.
I know that there is likely an extremely easy solution to remedy this problem, however, as I stated before I am very new to all this. Any response would be greatly appreciated!

First off, thank you both for your quick responses! I really appreciate the help from people who are way more knowledgeable than I am and can take the time to work with those in need of assistance (which I most certainly am, haha).
Marian, I actually already know how to make the canvas transparent and perhaps this is something I should have been more clear about in the OP. What I am actually going for is the effect where the word "Gateway" is allowing the background to show through the orange layer so that it looks like a cut-out...does this make sense? I know I'm probably not using the correct terminology, but it's the best way I know how to explain it.
I did go through some of the threads in the Fireworks forum but didn't find anything particularly useful.
I read the article you suggested as well and found it to be very helpful! I look forward to applying that technique once I get this image squared away! I just really want to get that cut-out effect going!

  • How do I achieve this effect?  Is it over-sharpening?

I have a request to use this style on a photo.  I think it has something to do with over-sharpening but not sure how to best do it.  Advice greatly appreciated, thanks!

I t looks over sharpened.  It might have also been done by duplicating the layer, setting the blend mode to overlay and using the highpass filter, under Filters>Other>Highpass.

  • How do I achieve this effect please?

I would like to create text boxes on the page with curved edges like ths, how is this done please?

There are a few different ways to do this - this is one:
    http://www.cssplay.co.uk/boxes/four_cornered.html
    and another:
    http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/css/css-round-corners-boxes.shtml
Another way:  is to use a background for the top rounded area (title), a repeating-y image for the content area and another background image for the bottom rounded section.

  • How to create a certain effect

I am able to visualize but am without the knowledge of how to do this:
I have a frame of video which has a number of different objects in it, each of which I would like to bring out front one at a time and have a more detailed clip run describing it. Then that clip disappearing and the next object is chosen.
Of course wanting it to be visually appealing.
Possibly the background frame fading out as a pointer or something which is denoting that specific object is about to be detailed in foreground.
I would imagine this process exists, I just don't know what it would be called and how to do>
Perhaps this writer is also unable to fully express adequately what he wants.
    Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.

    Hi,
You can use a filter in FCP called garbage matte.
Video Filters>matte>4 or 8 point garbage matte.
This plugin allows you ti isolate an object or portion and even make it move/resize/rotate by keyframing the action in the motion tab .
You will need to copy your frame/clips and overlap (V2,V3,V4etc.) them over the background parked in V1.
The downside is that accuracy and successful results depend on the shape of your objects, their motion path (better if the shot is steady) and obviousely on your skills in using it.
Read in the manual about garbage matte and its parameters or look for a tutorial on internet.

  • How to achieve this effect, please?

    Hello
    I have an image here:
    http://stevehigham59.7host.com/orange.jpg
How would I achieve that effect, please - with the different shapes and colours against that blue background inside a blue frame? I'm just wondering where to begin.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Steve

Many thanks to you all for your replies.
I haven't got Illustrator, I'm afraid so Photoshop will have to suffice.
I've saved all replies and will try out your suggestions.
    Thanks again.

  • How to produce this colour effect?

    Hi all,
I went through this youtube and found that the colour scheme is rather unique. How do I achieve such effect in FCE?
    Pls browse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnfIG5A83e8
    Thanks in advance guys.

Patrick Sheffield has some free plugins that you may find useful.
The video also looks like they used lens filters during the shoot, like a Tiffen Soft/FX, ProMist or diffusion filter.

  • How to achieve this Effect?

Hey everyone i was wondering if you guys had any idea how to achieve this effect in flash.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QftcJtvLr8g

While you could probably do this in Flash, it is much more simply done using AfterEffects. There's a splendid text tool that can be tortured into effects like this. Have a look at the podcasts from Creative Cow on AfterEffects for some interesting examples.

  • Trying to achieve a certain effect...

    Hi,
I'm trying to achieve a certain effect in Motion 3, whereby the camera slowly does a full spin whilst zooming in on the video, but I can't seem to find the right method. The 'Spin' effect seems to go too fast, and what I am looking for is similar to a Pan and Zoom effect...
if anyone knows what I'm talking about, is there any way this effect can be achieved?
    thanks.

Sounds like you want the Sweep behavior, which will rotate the camera while keeping it's point of view fixed. You control the speed by trimming the duration of the behavior.
