How do i adapt Satellite A660 PSAW9A-02T00F for Intel Wireless Display

How do i adapt my A660 -PSAW9A-02T00F laptop for Intel Wireless Display (WIDI)?
So I can use the new Push2TV Netgear adapter?
*when apparently my model doesn't support it!
Sooooooooooooo not happy.
Surely there must be away to "adapt" the model I have so that it does support it?*
From the Toshiba FAQ section:
How do I connect and use my Intel Wireless Display?
+Please note: The Intel Wireless Display is only supported on the Toshiba Satellite E200/006.
For full product information you may go here. (mind you there's no link to go anywhere)+

My computer is not very old yet.... Here I am :(
Please... someone tell me there's a FIX for this!

Hi
To be honest I never tried to connect my notebook to TV with Intel Wireless Display but I found some informations on Intel page:
http://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/architecture-and-technology/intel-wireless-display.html
here is a nice HowTo movie created by Intel:
http://communities.intel.com/community/tech/intel_widi
But requirements are:
Core CPU i7-620M, i5-540M, i5-520M, i5-430M, i3-350M and i5-330M
Furthermore you need Intel-HM57-, -HM55-, -QM57- or -QS57- chipset
And preinsatlled Windows 7.
Should check this with your notebook!

  • Satellite A660-07U - Can't install new display driver

When I first got my laptop it wouldn't even boot out the box! So I googled the way to get it up and running and it wouldn't install Windows 7 32bit, so I installed Windows 7 64bit and that worked.
I am one of the users who is also having their laptop freeze on them constantly. I have done the Bios update and it is still doing it. So I decided to try updating the graphics drivers with the new ones from this website, but it seems they wont install. I got the Windows 7 64bit drivers first as I have Windows 7 64bit installed in my laptop. But it says it cant find the required hardware, I figured its because my laptop is not a 3D version, should that even matter?
So I then tried the 32bit drivers and it says im using wrong system os for those drivers.
So how about some drivers I can use?

    Hello
    > it didn't work out the box
Why it didnt work? What problems you had exactly?
    > The X64 drivers for download will NOT work on my A660, says something about not the right hardware (which is where I got the 3D idea from)
Well, in my opinion it has nothing to do with 3D support. If you can find new driver updates for Satellite A660 they should work because they are tested by Toshiba.
As far as I know there is no A660 model with 3D support, thats only available on A665.
Fact is that 32bit drivers never work on 64bit operating systems. So just forget this point.
Satellite A660/07U seems to be an Australian model and belongs to PSAW3A series. On the Australian page there is only one display driver available for Windows 7 64bit
What you can try is the display driver from European page where you can find a similar model PSAW3E:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
On this page I could found two driver version: 260.51 and 189.58. As far as I know latter one works properly without freeze.
    > You could have just said you don't know the answer or are you always this condescending?
You want some help or not? ;)
I mean I also didnt know that you are still use the Windows 7 installation from Toshiba, you only wrote about new Windows 7 installation.
    Anyway, it was simple misunderstanding.

  • Satellite A660-18N - Solution for disabled WLAN switch

I have at last solved this annoying issue, my laptop is a Satellite A660-18N
Out of the box it just would not connect to wireless networking. With the Fn-F8 key combination reporting: "Wireless communitcation is disabled, please turn on the wireless communication switch"
Of course there is no such switch, just the FN-F8 Combination key press. Having tried various forums, and tech support, I solved the problem my self.
    The solution is:
Go to the folder on your c drive "Program files\Toshiba\TBS. Then scroll down the list of program files and double click on the file named TBSWireless.exe and hey presto, the wireless communication will turn on (Amber Light will come on on the front bottom right panel of the computer). From now on the FN-F8 Key combination will turn it on and of.
    Bye all

    Absolutely great job, Fin_1!
Thank you for this solution but I must say I didnt notice this problem on my Satellite A660 but it could be useful for other A660 owners :)

My HP Photosmart C6350 printer was previously attached to my iMac wirelessly and worked fine.  But I can no longer get it to even recognize the printer.  The printer works well from my laptop operating on Windows 8.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

Sure we be helpful if you told us the version of OS X, telling us it works with Windows 8 is of no value whatsoever.

    :) listen dude
Every display (TV, LCD, TFT, notebooks display, external display, etc.) might affect your eyes if you would not follow the rules recommended by manufacturers and eye specialist ;)
You should take a break between the computer work sessions and gaming.
You should keep distance to the monitor and be sure that your environment is bright enough
Read the user manual and ask your eye specialist how to avoid red eyes ;)

  • Satellite A660 BIOS update error

Have been trying to run the update advised by Toshiba but encounter the following error:
"There is an error occured, please check below items.

Any ideas on what to do?????

    Hi
As far as I know this error appears if you use a wrong BIOS version.
What Satellite A660-xxx do you have?
The Toshiba European driver page provides a BIOS v2.10 but only for Satellite A660 *PSAW9E* series.

  • Satellite A660-11M - How to enable WiFi?

Hi. I have a Satellite A660-11M with key features
    -Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
    -Intel Core i7-720QM Processor
    Wifi:
    Compliancy : Wi-Fi
    Network Support : 802.11b/g/n
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
It has been working fine but after the children were using the machine and shut it down I cannot see the Router using the wifi.
I tried the hardware switch on the media strip between the keyboard and the screen and none of the buttons respond; I suspect this may be the issue.
Fn F8 brings up the wifi fn display but clicking on it will not enable it. Trouble shooting informs me to "Turn on Wireless Capability" but as stated above, the media strip appears to be inactive. I can connect normally using the cable to the router.
I tried a System Restore but that didn't help.
So although I have a sinking feeling I am missing something obvious, any thoughts before I start reloading wifi driver and resetting BIOS? If that is the recommended approach, what driver controls the media strip
    Many thanks for any help.

Thanks for all your assistance... Got it sorted:
For anyone else with this model, *it was a hardware fault.*
You need to undo one of the screws on the underside of the laptop (I undid them all 8o() and gently lift up the keyboard fascia from the top (directly above the function buttons). Under here you will find a small ribbon cable from the media panel to the motherboard... this had come undone.
    Reconnected, rebooted, job's a good'un.
Genuinely impressed with how supportive this forum is... in Arnie's immortal words: I'll be back!

  • Satellite A660-18N - Screen it too bright so how to update the BIOS?

Hi guys, I need your help with this laptop because it is giving me a lot of problems.
I have changed the screen of this Satellite A660-18N because the one that was fitted in was damaged. I have installed it and is working fine but I'm having problems with the brightness. When I click - on the brightness it goes up and when I click + it goes down. It's way too bright and want to do something to fix it.
Does the bios help to fix this problem and how do I flash the BIOS on these laptops? I did flash BIOS on desktop pc but on this I can't see any way of doing it. Is there any way of fixing the screen without changing the BIOS? Some people said that I have to flash the BIOS because new screens wont work 100% with old BIOS.
    Please help
    Thank you

Thank you very much Xardas for your reply.
It is 3rd party screen. I bought it from ebay. They said that it's original. It says made from Samsung. The original one was also made from samsung. The guys from Toshiba said that you might have to update bios so that it will accept other screens. I told them which one I bought and they did confirm that it should work fine.
I wanted to flash the bios with the latest bios and maybe it could work fine. I just don't know how to do it? I did create a bootable usb and placed the bios in it but don't know the command to flash it. I did go in bios but did not find anything that would be helpful to flash.
I also was thinking to use some kind of software that makes it little bit darker. It's way too bright. My eyes hurt to use it. I always have to use sunglasses.
If you know anything it really would be helpful.
    Thank you

  • Satellite A660 - How to change from 32bit too 64bit system

    Howdy!
I bought a New Toshiba Satellite A660 i7-2630QM with windows 7 home premium.
My problem is Toshiba includes instructions for the first start up and it says i can choose between 32 bit operating system and 64 bit operation system, but when i turned it on the first time it did not give me any option/choice.
Now ive got 6GB memory and can only use 4GB because its set too 32 bit system is there any easy way to change it as I dont have a windows disc, all the software is preloaded?

    Hi
I think this info is mentioned in user manual.
First of all you can create a Recover Disk with the Toshiba image.
You should create such disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recover Disk creator (or Toshiba Recovery Creator).
Furthermore there should be a possibility to recover the notebook using the HDD recover.
During the HDD recovery, the setup should provide an option which would allow you to choose between the 32bit and 64bit.
But just one question: what A660-xxx do you have exactly?

  • Satellite A660-1FM - Max. screen resolution of external monitor

    Hi All,
This may be (probably) an easy questions to answer but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my Samsung Syncmaster (forgotten model) external screen. I grabbed an HDMI->DVI-D adapter, and all is well, but here is my question:
The toshiba specs page for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows an external resolution capability of:
    Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
Max Refresh Rate : 100 Hz
    Non-interlaced resolution with max refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200
But I get what I call standard HDMI resolution (not surprising I guess) when connected HDMI->DVI-D to my external monitor. I have previously run this monitor on my desktop at much high resolutions than 1080P, so the monitor is capable.
Just wondered what I'm missing here, or is it a case of the graphics card spec is higher than is possible to output from the laptop ?
    Thanks for any help
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As to native resolution of the external monitor - unsure how to find this - but it was running a with a lot higher res when it was connected to my old desktop (which has died and been replaced by this laptop)
R/E the adapter - My Samsung Syncmaster monitor has a DVI-D cable sticking out the back of it, so I needed to connect that to my laptop - either vga-> DVI-D or HDMI-DVI-D to make use of it.
The external monitor is currently running at 1680 x 1050 using the laptop HDMI output -> HDMI-DVI-D adapater -> external monitor.
Before my desktop died, using the same external monitor I was running at 1680 x (guessing a bit here) 2048 ish (really sure I had a greater y res, this 1050 lark is really squishy).. in any case, the Y resolution was much much much better than 1050.
But, according to the specification for this laptop, it can output 2048 x 1536 to an external device (How, the HDMI and VGA outptu cannot go that high right ?)
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution on the laptop spec onto my external monitior, which has more than handled this resolution before my old gaming desktop died.
Thanks again for the reply - I hope this makes my question clearer.
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Satellite A660: Remark and a question about illumination/mute button

    Remark:
Hi, I am a proud owner of a satellite A660-166 (3 days old) and I installed everything from scratch on the win 7 pro since I received my laptop with a home version (need pro for work)...I encountered some problems but this forum really answered all my questions :) Never found such a helpful forum for technical support. So I wanted to express my gratitude and my support for everything you do for the users :)
Problem: Well, it's not really a problem, more of a curiosity... I had some problems with the eco button at that point illumination/mute button was for mute....Thanks to you guys I found out what needed to be done, I reinstalled Flash card software and everything was working properly plus the illumination/mute button was for illumination now. I don't have anything against that, I prefer it that way, but I'm wondering how do I change that...I found some unanswered thread about using toshiba assistant and the illumination tab...Since my laptop is pretty new, I don't have an illumination tab, I was wondering how do I change the button to mute if I want to?
Thanks, keep up the good work!

It is nice to hear you found answers to your questions here. Many people here try to help.
Back to your issue: It is not easy to offer precise answer and I really dont know if you can change settings for one single button. I think it has something to do with registry entries but how to change it is another question.
If you use this button for illumination ON/OFF you can use FN+ESC for MUTE option so you will have both options that can be used using one single button or quick key combination.
Can you please test it and confirm it works properly?

  • Satellite A660 - 3D DVD software runs out of date or is secretly altered

Whats going on; why do I get lynched to pay an additional $59 for software to make my Satellite 3D work?
    Ok.
This probably sounds nuts; but my Toshiba Blu-Ray DVD software seems to have a DVD/Blu-ray prevention program in it. Preventing 3D and smaller issues.
It has been out of whack since I updated the software on the Toshiba site and when I updated the nVidia GTS 350M drivers.
That may be co-incidental to the problems which began in previous month/s; as I don`t always play discs on this laptop; so pinning a date when it went pear-shaped is harder.
But, after going through a nightmare (of not working on DVD or Blu-Ray on half my discs for months now); I installed the latest TRIAL ($59) Corel WinDVD 11 Pro player and everything (including 3D) works perfect again. But for 30 days only; until/unless I`m robbed of $59 additional that is.
    The problem is/was;-
3D only worked on half of my Blu-Ray 3D discs using pre-installed (and later updated) Toshiba COREL WinDVD media PLAYER. Sometimes it only played 3D side by side; 2 images. No 3D. Some Blu-Ray 3D discs were fine ODDLY. Region code not an issue.
Toshiba DVD 3D player/upconvertor program was the worst (not the SD version, I dont use).
Toshiba (HD) 3D player would not recognise half of my Blu-ray 3D laptop disc drive content. "DVD drive not recognised" error message.
Toshiba DVD player itself would not upconvert any normal DVD to 3D.
Toshiba DVD player would only play NORMAL 2D when running upconvert (no 3D).
Toshiba DVD player would only play HALF-SPEED DVD when upconvert was disabled. When trying to play a DVD in normal 2D mode.
All settings were tried and altered to fix the problem around a thousand times.
Software uninstalled and re-booted and re-installed a dozen times each.
I also had to un-install the software and re-boot and re-install the following;-
nVidia graphics driver (from nVidia sites own 295.73 and re-install Update to the `older` nVidia Toshiba 260.51 driver).
I used to be able to upconvert DVDs to 3D using this laptop; so it did work many months ago; but now that has all stopped for months now.
Its a pain as I have un-installed everything and re-installed all the relevant software from the Toshiba home page; but no solution for the problem without getting mugged an extra $59.
I hate computers for the ten-thousandth time.
    1 minute Ramble:-
Its the last Microsoft product I will ever buy (Windows Ultimate rubbish [had to buy a new A3 color lazer printer as no Win 7 drivers for my existing laser printer]).
SAMSUNG (3D internet TV) products from now on. No computers for ten years. Until the rats get it right and stop experimenting on my wallet. $10,000 on PC products in the past 5 years and still being able to do simple things like watch a 3D movie is a hit and miss affair.
I`m rambling....because a hundred hours reading on how to get it working again has scrambled my head.
    Spec
    Toshiba A660 3D laptop. Satellite.
    Windows 7 Ultimate. Updated.
    Intel i7 1.73Ghz
    Graphics is GTS 350M
4GB Ram (8-gig upgrade on order)
    Spare 550GB hard-drive space.
    Toshiba site; Bios updated.
Toshiba own DVD 3D player (doesn't cut the mustard) Version 4.00.1.08
Toshiba Corel WinDVD 3D player (doesn't cut the mustard) Version 10.0.5.822
The Nvidia graphics always works fine on the test background page; which makes me think software; but all the relavant software has been updated. Re-installed and re-tried a hundred times with different settings.
I thought the discs were the problem. But 50 DVDs not working in 3D up-converting, or faulty all by themselves? And half of my 3D Blu-Ray collection?
I wondered if these these problems are deeper than this one system. Whether there was a systemic problem somewhere (besides blaming the buyer end-user).
Toshiba assist line in one call was a guy who knew far less than me and had to ask someone advice for every single part of the call. 2 hours to tell me to re-install the software in a long, slow, bit-by-bit way, eventually. We done everything they can do to help. Now they seem to blame the discs and don`t have any answer.
Microsoft x64 Ultimate says its roger all to do with them on their helpline/e-mail assist.
    I tried nVidia to no avail;
Any ideas; do I bite the bullet and everyone eventually be forced bit by bit to pay for $59 software to get the thing working.
    Whats the beef?

    Hi
You wrote really long story :) anyway this is an user to user community Im not sure if I could clarify all these issue for you but I would try to share my knowledge with you.
But firstly it would be really interesting to know what Satellite A660-xxx do you have exactly?
You said that you have installed the Win 7 ultimate.
According to the Toshiba page the notebook was preinstalled with Windows Home Premium. The preinstalled WinDVD was a full version (not trial) and you have not to pay for this software. In my case I have not to pay for any software (except MS Office :) )
    you said also:
    > I installed the latest TRIAL ($59) Corel WinDVD 11 Pro player and everything (including 3D) works perfect again. But for 30 days only; until/unless I`m robbed of $59 additional that is.
So it seems that you dont use the preinstalled Win DVD but you have installed other version which was not preinstalledso you have to purchase such version if you want to use a full version of any software which is not part of Toshiba image.

  • Satellite A660 - Will not boot up and HDD boot fail

    Hi,
    firstly thanks for your time.
    Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)
The problem started yesterday, the computer was going slow as an application closed, so I held the off button untill the pc turned off. When I restarded the laptop it went to a screen saying: Start windows normally or repair Windows (recomended)
When started normally it just hangs at a blank screen, the repair Windows recommends a system restore to earlier point which didnt work. As it just hangs again. I tried pressing F8 and starting in safe mode but again it just hangs. Then after a few times trying safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After this the computer goes past the Toshiba logo screen with F2 and F12 options (which both still work), and then it comes up boot failed then goes blank and comes with boot failed bootfailed with some numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box titled boot menu with 4 options. These are
    HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX
    CD/DVD MAT****ABD-CMB UJ141ES
    FDD
    LAN
If I press ESC it goes through the bootfailed loop and ends up at same screen, if I press enter on "HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX" then it quickly comes back to screen and at the bottom it says [HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX] is failed.
I dont understand why it got worse over time. Can anyone think of why this has happend and more importantly how can I get my pc working again? Note: holding 0 then starting does nothing for me atm
    regards, Matthew

All you people looking here on this dead thread.....
Toshiba A660 laptops are renowned for having hard drive fails and boot up problems after grinding to a halt.
My solution (after losing 3 hard drives [and a terabyte of family treasured times]) is the following.
Use MALWAREBYTES (free download and use for 28 days)
Scan and fix. Mine found over 300 trojans that 2013 Norton 360 could not find.
    Re-boot into safe mode.
    SCAN again.
Re-boot and empty the malwarebytes repair files it retains...
Run Norton/McAfee (whichever you have) and you should still have no issues.
    Make a back-up repair disc. Ooooops......no you cant...........at least my laptop can`t.
    I don`t know why.....
Tell me tosh..... why does windows x64 refuse to allow me to make a system boot disc (even though the laptop is all driver updated and Windows updated)?
Uninstall MalwareBytes when Norton/McAfee tells you there will be a conflict between the two programs.
It tells you to re-boot after uninstalling it.
Then when it re-boots you get a black screen. You cannot even get to bios. You think ytour laptop is turned into a brick frisbee. You pull out the battery in frustration after five minutes.
You replace and re-boot....but again you get no bios or boot up.... you think its destroyed the Bios or graphics somehow....youo can hear the hard-drive but you have no clue whats going on..
Around this time you shake the laptop in frustration.....
    Calm down.
Switch on and leave FIFTEEN MINUTES....Ten of which will be a Black nothing screen with maybe a single white underscore line in the top left corner.LEAVE IT ALONE.
Make a sunday dinner for ten people....When you go back to the computer it will be up and running.
When you re-boot again, it will be dead black for five minutes...then boots up... you still think it has a problem... LEAVE IT.
When you reboot again it should work perfect (assuming you have not been overheating it by using it on a cushion on your lap and overheating the insides [use a laptop fan tray]) if you have not shaken your hard drive or caused scrambled damage by pulling the power fifty times like some people do.
I have lost three hard drives and thousands of Gigabytes of treasured family memories discovering the secret the hard way.
    Enjoy.
Buy a different brand next time.
ALL Windows system files should be on a SWITCHED (to update) version of Windows.
Spinning drives should be for Data only.
