How do I add a delay to boot time?

Win 8.1 boots too quickly to be able to get into safe mode, sometimes even to get into BIOS. I unchecked the faststart under the power settings. Is there anyplace I can put in a time delay before the windows boot process starts ?

You can consider increasing the post delay at the bios level.in most bios hou find such an option.

One option would be to connect the Time Capsule (TC) to the ISP-provided wireless router by Ethernet. You can then configure the for a roaming network. I have a user who is trying to access my department's external site. The pages that she is trying to access pulls data from a different domain (One in our DMZ) than the external host domain. This DMZ domain is a trusted domain and pulling data from this domain has worked well for years on multiple browsers without incident. Now for every other page that hits this internal DMZ server the user is getting "This connection is not trusted" and has to go through the manual exception dance to see her data. We host hundreds of pages and having to do this for each one is going to drive people to grab another browser quickly. I got this user working on Chrome without a problem and have tested it in IE without problem.
I have recreated the cert8.db file in her profile and run into the same problem after reboot.

How can I add a delay to sync iTunes playback with my Sonos system

I have a Sonos multi-room audio system which accesses all my music from a drive on my Airport Extreme base station. These music files are also accessed through iTunes on my Macs.
When I'm at my Macs, I prefer to use iTunes to play my music, so I have an Airport Express which is used as a line-in source for the Sonos system. Using this, I can play my music on a Mac and also have it play through all the other speakers on the Sonos system.
The only drawback is, the Sonos system introduces a slight delay in order to sync the different players, which puts it out of sync with iTunes.
Is there a plug-in or similar that would allow me to introduce a small delay in the playback from iTunes without affecting the feed to the Airport Express?

In 7.0 How do I add one CD at a time without all Cds being taken out?

I have upgraded to 7.0 and wanted to add a new CD, I used to find that when itunes was on it would upload a CD into my Library and I would drag and drop into my ipod section, easy.
Now I don't see the new CD, so I looked at the new sync part for music, I am no expert so I ticked Sync music and then ticked all songs and music and the whole lot of my music just went.
Luckily I had a backup of all my ipod stuf and am now adding it, don't know if it will all go in, will have to see.
My point is, if you want to add some CDs to your ipod, how do you do it without it taking everything out, I have nearly 9,000 songs so if anyone can help or give me a place to find out about this I will be very happy.
BTW does this happen in my video section too, I am afraid to try??

You can set your iPod for manually managing
your music. It is an option in the iPod screen. Or
search the on-line help.
The alternative is that the iPod simply mirrors
whatever is in iTunes. That means it removes things
from the iPod if you remove them from your computer.

Hi Michael, there is no option in the music screen to manually manage my music, believe me I have been looking at this for 2 days now.
I have searched online for help and also not found anything, I cant understand why Apple puts something new on and then gives no instuctions on how to use it.
I went into thier Tutoral section and they are still showing you how to put CDs in the old way.

How can I add the date next to time in menu bar?

Hi, I'd like to see today's date next to the "time" on the right-hand side of the menubar. I called Apple tech support twice about it and no one could help. The last guy suggested I post the question here, and someone might know of a third-party app... I don't want a calendar on my desktop, I don't want to click anything to see the date. I want it in the menubar with the time. It would be so handy.

I've created a time series graph on numbers on my iMac but I need to add moving averages. Is there a function an if so where is it and if not is there a way to get around it

Here is an example plot, data sorted from most recent data at top of the table...
You can see the moving average (of 20) is plotted from right to left.
The Moving Average calculation is now wrong, and should have been calculated and presented from oldest to most recent.
Here is the same data, with table sorted from oldest data at the top of the table.
The moving average is also plotted from right to left, and shows the correct Moving Average for the most recent data.
That is, it is calculated from oldest to most recent, with the last Moving Average data point plotted on "todays" date.
What I want to see is my table displayed from most recent at the top (the top table), and moving average calculated and displayed as per the bottom graph.
Edit: So, think about this some more,
I need an option to tell Numbers to do the Moving Average calculation from the bottom of the table up, not from the top of the table down.

How to set kernel module options at boot? (solved)

I've got a netbook with bluetooth supported by the omnibook driver. In rc.conf, I left the modules autoloading on, and added 'omnibook' to the modules array, because it wasn't automatically loaded. Then I added the following line to /etc/modules.d/modprobe.conf:
options omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1
But I still don't get a Bluetooth device after the boot. I only get it if I run:
sudo rmmod omnibook ; sudo modprobe omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1
How should I set these options at boot time? I couldn't find any other orientation in the wiki. Thanks!

The omnibook module isn't something I've ever used but there is no need to include "sudo" in the options line. How about trying:
options omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1

How to make a service available at boot.

Can someone tell me how to make a service available at boot time via smf ? The question is for a generic service ( network/telnet for example ) and for a site one.
Is it enough to enable it via svcadm ?

yeah all you need to do is
svcadm enable /network/telnet
this will enable the service then and next time when you boot the system
(or i.e. svcadm disable apache2 if you want to disable the httpd)

How long does it take for your new Mac Pro to boot

Boot time to the desktop is hugely affected by the number of Login Items you have installed. You can see this by starting from the login screen and holding Shift as you log in, to skip all login items. On my Macs, skipping the login items saves many, many seconds. It could be the difference between a 30 second boot and a 50 second boot, depending on what you are loading at login.
If you installed software that uses kernel extensions, the more of those you have can also slow boot time. I think you can skip those with Shift at startup.
There are RAM checks at startup, so more RAM could also delay the boot time.

Time Machine will, by design, fill up all the empty space available to it before it starts deleting old backups to make room for new ones. That's most likely what's happened to you.
One option is to delete a large number of the oldest backups via the procedure in #12 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum. Note that you'll have to manually compact the sparse image to actually get the space back, as detailed in the pink box there.
The other is to erase the entire HD and let TM start over with both Macs (I'd be inclined to do the initial full backups one at a time, via Ethernet).
Use the +*Airport Utility+* app, in your Applications/Utilities folder.
Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase.
If you have other data there that you want to keep, you should be able to delete the sparse bundle via the Finder.

There are not many effects available in GarageBand on the iPad. You can add reverb and echo to the Master Track, but that's it.

How do I add delay to rear speake

I am using SB Audigy with front and rear channel, so called quadraphonic configuration. My speakers are positioned so that front speakers are much further away from listening point than rear speakers. So to eliminate the echo-effect caused by front speakers I should add some delay to the rear speakers.
How do I actually do this? I cannot adjust the delay from my A/V receiver, because it is very old. Is there a program or a driver for this purpose? I heard that kX Project has 3rd party drivers which allow this, but I wouldn't like to lose EAX effects from games.
Any help would be much appreciated!

AFAIK, ipfw doesn't have dynamic rules. Alternatives: some sort of an add-on filter (and I haven't tried that one on OS X!) or fail2ban. Move the ssh port somewhere weird, an approach which will confound many of the gremlins. Maybe port knocking. Or move to a VPN. Delaying the ssh connections won't help against a distributed ssh brute-force attack, either. There's a reasonable general (non-OS X) write-up here. Personally, I find a gateway-based VPN server is usually easier to deal with, and it keeps the OS X logs from getting filled with noise.
