How do I add US holidays to my iCal?

    From here:
To add holidays to your calendar:
On iCal's menu bar, choose Calendar / Find Subscriptions...
You will be taken to a page on Apple's website that lists shared calendars.
For US Holidays, click here. For other countries you will have to browse around some in the Alphabetical tab.
When you have found the calendar you want to add to iCal, click the Download button.
You will be taken back to iCal. Click Subscribe.
The next dialog shows options for the calendar. Two of them are important:
If you have MobileMe and share your calendar with iDevices and/or other Macs, change Location from On My Mac to Calendars. (If this doesn't work, make sure that Calendar sharing is checked on the MobileMe preference pane.)
Change Auto-refresh to Every week. This will make sure that you have holidays on your calendar for the years ahead.
Click OK. The holidays will be added to iCal.
In addition to holiday calendars, you can also subscribe to US sports team schedules, US movie releases, moon phases and several other types of calendar.
Also check out the iCalShare.com website that claims over 3500 shared calendars in 40 categories

  • How do I 'Add a mail account to iCal'?

    Hi,
I am trying to use the feature in mail in Leopard where you could hilight text in an email and create a new task. Since upgrading to SL I can only do this for my mobileme account and not my work account or gmail account that are set up in the same way as under Leopard.
When I hilight text in these account and go to the tick icon to create a task I get a message 'The to-do account is unavailable until you add the selected account to iCal'. I can't find any documentation on how to do this. I also have 'Create Notes and To dos' set to 'On my Mac'.
Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Jason

OK, here it comes =) A little Jiggery Pokery
You need to play with the Mail setup to make it do what you need SOOOOO here is how you do it (I just set it up with my sbcglobal.net address)
Go into Mail and choose preferences
Select accounts and then click the + button
Now, here comes the Jiggery Pokery... You need to enter a fake email address to trick Mail into not automatically setting it to IMAP. So... enter your real name but enter a fake address (you can use the one I used in the picture)
Now, click continue. It will bring you to the manual setup screen!!! =)
    You want to select POP....
You can give any description you want...
use pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com for incoming mail server
enter your username (should be [email protected])
enter your password and click Continue
You now get the outgoing mail settings
    Enter anything in description
    Outgoing mail server is smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
I did not tell it to use authentication and it went through the test.
Now once it is done you can add the account and you are EMAILING!

  • Add a note to a Calendar event that was created from Mac Mail

When I create a Calendar event by clicking on a date within a Mac Mail message (you hover over a date in an email it draws a dashed box around the date and gives an option to create a Calendar event).  It creates an Event in my Calendar with the following fields:  Subject, Location, Date Time and alert fields, Invitees and a link to the mail message.  But - I can't seem to add a Note Field.  The only work-around seems to be to manually create a new calendar entry.
Does anyone know how to modify an event created from Mac Mail to add a Note Field?
    iMac Retina 5K 27-inch Late 2014, OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3, Calendar Version 8.0 (2034.9), Mail  Version 8.2 (2098).

Thanks Brett for replying, but this doesn't work if the event is created by Mac Mail - which is my issue.  Sure it works with any other event but not one that has been created from within Mail.  If this is a bug I'm sure the Calendar people point the blame at the Mail people and vice versa but that doesn't help me.  But before I submit a report to Apple I thought I would see if I might be missing something obvious.
See the attached screenshot of an event that was created by Mac Mail. There is no Add Notes field when the event is Double Clicked, Right Clicked or any other form of click.
    Graeme.

  • How to easily add my work schedule to iCal

    Hello all,
My problem is that I want to add 12-14 shifts to iCal each month that are always different as far as the date, but the hours worked are always the same. I was wondering if theres an addon or automator application that will allow me to add a 12 hour shift to March 3,6,12,25, and 30 all at once, as long as the hours are the same.
I see you can repeat an event, but it will want to do the same dates the next month, and my dates the next month will be totally different.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ajbrutico

Not sure about an automator script, but you could just create the first event, then copy/paste it in to the other dates you need it in. Since your recurrence is pretty random I don't know that there will be a way to automate it.

  • How do I transfer all the data (contacts, iCal events, etc.) on my iPhone to my computer?

My hard drive crashed.  I didn't have anything backed up.  Therefore, since I have all of my iCal events, contacts, etc. on my iPhone, I have not yet synced my phone with my computer since I got the new hard drive.  Its going to delete everyone in my contacts and everything on my iCal.  Is there a way to upload all of that information onto my computer so I don't loose it all, and I can once again sync our phones up to the computer?

Thanks!  I talked to Apple about this on the phone.  They helped me figure out to check the sync box for contacts, iCal, and then "merge info."  All of my music and videos will not merge over to the computer unless the data is formatted by Apple.  But at least I can get my contacts and my iCal events transfered over!  Thanks Apple for helping me with this issue.

  • How can I attach a document to an iCal event invitation?

I tried doing some research on this and tried the "Help" part of iCal.  The option given there said
Attach a file to an event
If you want to associate a particular file with an event (for example, a document you need to remember to take to an appointment), you can attach it directly to the event in iCal so it’s easy to remember and find when you need it. You can also share meeting materials with others by attaching them to event invitations.
In iCal, double-click the event. If the event editor isn’t open, click Edit to open it.Open iCal
Drag the file you want over the open event editor. You can also click Add File next to “attachments,” navigate to the file you want, and then click Open. The file appears in the “attachments” field.
If the “Allow Invitees to Manage Files” checkbox is available and you want to allow invitees to add or remove files from the event invitation, select the checkbox.Only the meeting organizer can select or deselect the checkbox.
To remove a file that you attached to an event, select it, and then press the Delete key.
To remove a file that you attached to an event, select it, and then press the Delete key.
iCal allows you to see a preview of any file attached to an event. To see a preview, select the file in the “attachments” field, and then press the Space bar. Click the Close (x) button in the top-left corner of the preview window to close it.
The problem is there is no Add File or attachments.  I am using the iCloud based iCal and running latest update on Lion.  Can anyone help me with this problem?

You need to start in the app that contains/owns the document, and then use that app to select the document and send/switch into the Mail app. You can't start in the Mail app as it doesn't have an attach facility

  • How can I add applications not listed in the root Applications folder?

I'm running in a non-administrative (i.e. not the first) user account, I have my own Applications folder with apps that I have downloaded and installed myself. Is it possible to add these apps to the list in Automator?

I believe he was answering what you were implying by implying that Automator would automatically be aware of the actions once you've used the application.
If it doesn't have any actions, then the app won't show up in Automator. If you've downloaded actions for an app separate from it, you can add the actions using an option in Automator's File menu. More about that here.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Automator/1.0/en/ensm1010.html
Just to be clear, it shouldn't matter where the app is installed, just make sure you've used the app so the system will know about more about the app. The same thing goes for Spotlight, file types, services (application menu > Services), and so on. It shouldn't matter where the app is located, the system will discover what the app has available when you open that app.
If you believe an app should have Automator actions, then review the website of the developer of that app for info about what the actions are and whether they made them separate from the app for some reason. Another possibility is the actions might be available only in certain versions of the app you've installed. Definitely check the the app's developer's website for info about its actions.

As for gdgmacguy, don't be so naive, of course Apple read every comment made on here, and my purpose for posting was pretty obvious, I thought I had missed the obvious ability to add attachments to typed out emails - thanks for the link to Apple feedback for the iPhone.
High ranked members of these forums are occasionally invited to town hall meetings with the wonderful Apple employees that created and manage these forums. As someone who has been able to interact with them directly I can say for certain that there is only a handful of staff. The do not spend all day reading posts and they rely on community policing. Apple does however read every submission to the feedback channel.

  • How do I import notes to existing iCal events?

I have a .ics file that imports events for a couple years.
I would like to add notes to those events via an import file. Is this possible?
    Cheers,
    ZWK

    Hi,
easies way I know: Select the folder in grid view, right click and select "import into this folder" (or something like this - am german...)
You can also copy the image to the target folder using explorer / finder and use "snyc" from the folder context menu.

  • How can I add my own calendars in iCal?

I have recently added new calendars to iCal (File>New Calendar Group) in preparation to import my google calendars (previously exported).  However when I am prompted to choose the calendar in which to import the data, the options I have created are 'greyed' out.  How do I activate these calendars so I can choose them?

    Hi
You need to create a calendar (File -> New Calendar). With calendar groups you can group several calendars but you need calendars, as only calendars can contain events.

  • How do I add U S holidays to ical

    Some U S Holidays are missing ,ie:Thanksgiving.

I thought that I would post what I have found out so far in case it might help someone else.
One way to do this is to download an app to the iPhone that contains the holidays. I found one called USAHolidays that was free. You can then export the holidays from the app to your calendar. They then sync with your calendar on iCloud. The only problem is that this app is a little unwieldly. You have to check off each holiday that you want to export for each year. And it only includes years 2011-2015.
Of course the other way to do this is to just post the holidays manually to either the iPhone calendar or the iCloud calendar as recurring events and let them sync up. (It is probably easier to post to the iCloud.) You would only have to do this one time. This will put the holidays on to your calendars indefinitely. The problems with this are the "holidays" relating to Easter (Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday).. The logic to determine those days is beyond the capabilities of the calendaring function. You would have to look those dates up and post them manually for each year. I know that not everyone is interested in having all of these "holidays" on their calendar, so the problem would be minimized for them.
This may be basic stuff for a lot of you experts, but some of use are newbies and learning as we go.
