How Do I Add A Search Engine Not Listed Under the Mycroft Project??

I just installed Firefox 12.0 last night. All I want to do now is add www.Gibiru.com to the Search Engine Manager, delete Google & make Gibiru my default search. There is no add-on or plug-in at the Gibiru webpage & it doesn't come up under the Mycroft Project search. Why can't I open Gibiru.com in the Firefox browser & click a button under Options or Search Manager to make that page my default search? Firefox claims to be so 'fast & flexible', but it's functionality stinks compared to MSIE.

The easy answer is to install an extension such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/]. Then, whenever you go to a website, you can just right click the search field and choose to add it to your search bar
Unfortunately, it seems that website doesn't support an even easier method of adding a search engine, detailed at [[Search bar#w_while-visiting-a-website|While visiting a website]]. But, for other websites, you can use that technique.

  • How do I add a search engine to the search bar from a hard disk file?

    I want to add a search engine to the search bar from an XML file on my hard disk. "Manage Search Engines" from the search bar drop down list only appears to allow adding search engines from web sites.
    Thanks.

    Hmmm. This didn't work. I even re-booted, and Firefox still doesn't show the search engine.
    It was actually an update to an earlier engine, and I foolishly removed the old version rather than just updating it.
    Is there anything elsewhere (eg. the registry) that might be preventing this?

  • In Windows 8, under manage add-ons, Flash player is listed under the heading Not Available, but is listed as being Enabled.

    I Try to reinstall it but it tells me it is already pre-installed with my windows 8 and to turn off active x filtering or to enable it in manage add ons.  Active x filtering is not on, and it is currently enabled, it is just listed under the Not Available heading and I am guessing that is why it is not working when I go to view something that needs flash player.  Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it going around the windows preinstalled??  Or a way to get it out of the Not Available and into the Adobe heading in my add-ons??

    What you can do is either Reset IE (Gear > Advanced > Reset), or if that doesn't work, you'll need to go into Add/Remove programs, find the last Windows Update for Internet Explorer or Flash, uninstall it, then re-install it from Windows Update.  This will usually get you back to a good state with IE.

  • In FF4 the opensearch detection does not seem to work. how can I add a search engine , that has an opensearch xml but no plugin?

    if you go to a webpage with an opensearch link tag like "<link rel="search" type="application/opensearchdescription+xml...." FF3.x highlighted the small arrow left of the search box and you could add the search engine. this does not seem to work in FF4.
    If a searchengine for example for the intranet, does not offer a plugin, just the opnesearch xml, how can one add it to the search engines in FF4?

    You do not get the blue glow on the search engine icon in Firefox 4, but you should still see the "Add ... site" entry in the menu if you click the search engines icon on the Navigation Toolbar.

  • How do I add a search engine?

    Safari features Google and Yahoo as search engines. Is it possible to add my favourite search engine to them? If so, how?

    No, it is not possible. These search engine are build in Safari executable file. However you can have your own search engines made as Bookmaklets: https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/

  • How do I stop other search engines from continually hijacking the firefox browser?

    I'm fed up with this happening and not being able to get back to firefox without significant drama. Is there some way I can set up a permanent barrier, and it it malware that's causing the problem?

    Permanently? Hardly. However, you could store some settings (like search engine, default start page) in user.js file (in your Firefox data folder).
    Sadly, some malwares use the same trick to hijack search engines as well.
    If you think the hijack is due to malware, run Spybot and adwcleaner.

  • MS outllok is not listed under the Contacts SetUp Menu

    under the Intellisync Select Device Menu and specifically under the AddressBook SetUpe Menu I only get <none>, Microsoft Outlook Express, ASCII converter and Yahoo. Why can't I get MS Outlook? Same thing under the Calendar SetUp Menu and the MemoPad... Please help!

    Yup...a clean start over (now that you've removed the conflict)...here's a procedure:
    I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
    KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
    Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
    Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):
    KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
    KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    Hopefully that will get things going again.

  • How do I add a search engine of my own choice (i.e one which is not available among the "Manage Search Engines" add-ons) to the Search Engine Box dropdown?

    I'm running Firefox 6 on Windows XP

    Glad it worked. Thanks for posting back.
    You may note there are some changes coming up with Firefox's searches. In Fx23 whatever you set in the search bar is also used for other searches, so you may get unexpected videos showing up from the address bar.
    Further in the future, probably Fx25 the navigation and search bar are being combined. Then there is talk of a new concept of search tabs.

  • How can I set a default Search Engine not Listed?

    I want to set my default browser?to DuckDuckgo but Safari only gives me 3 options.  Is there an easy way to override this or set my own custom browser?

    What the extension does is it sets the defaut search in the address bar to use DuckDuckGo.   If you want to go to DuckDuckGo.com everytime you open a new tab, then you need to set it for your home page.  Then set up the prefs for everytime you open a new tab to go to your home page.

  • How can I add sites to my 'Reading List' from the desktop version?

    Kindle has this add-on to Firefox desktop version called 'Send to Kindle', where I simply hit Ctrl+K and then I would have the current webpage stored on my Kindle. Very handy when I am commuting to work without connectivity.
    How can I achieve this with my tablet and Firefox for Android's Reading List feature?

    We don't have this feature at the moment. We may add it as part of the New Sync that we are working on.

    how to add a search engine  like What do you love of Google ? I use Glims but it doesn't work or I don't know how to go about it
    Thanks

    You can also add any search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
    Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • How to add a search engine manually to Firefox. (No, not via add ons)

    How to add a search engine manually to Firefox?
    For example, what should I do add a custom search engine? It is not available via add-ons. When I go to the search page, Firefox doesn't detect it and it doesn't prompt me or allow me to add it as a search provider. I am looking for options similar to that in Chromium browser.
    let's say for instance, if I want to add redhat bugzilla to my search providers, I can go to search settings and just add https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=%s
    Is there any similar option available in Firefox?

    I use these;
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/ Add to Search Bar]''' {web link}
    Make any pages' search functionality available in the Search Bar
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/context-search/ Context Search]''' {web link}
    Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of
    installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine
    you want to use for each search.
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchthissite/ SearchThisSite]''' {web link}
    Allows you to search the website currently viewed with
    the website's internal search engine (and not the default
    FF search engine or an external engine)
