I put in the right incoming and outgoing info and then it says it can not contact my server. I am able to retrieve my email from the website mail2web.com so I know it lets emails be retrieved.
I know that when I set up my outlook exchange on my computer the internet provider would not let me just enter my server but required I use the comcast smtp server. Is this the same with At&T.

Something is missing or wrong in your settings. OR your server is only accessible via VPN.

SMTP is for sending only; it shouldn't affect receiving. Some ISPs only allow access to their servers for sending if you are directly connected to their network. Others allow access from anywhere, but if they do you must enter a user ID and password even though the iPhone setting says "optional".

I am unable to add an email account to my iphone

My iPhone "lost" the password to my email account. I tried reentering the password but no luck. Deleted account and reinstalled. Still said password was incorrect. I can log on to the account via the web so I know the log in is good and the account is working. I installed a daughter account on the phone and that went fine. Tried installing the troubled account on my iPad and got the same password incorrect. In addition I've done the following:
Called ISP tech support
Called Applecare
Gone to Genius Bar
Reset phone
Reset network settings
Restored phone from backup.
Checked for profiles
Made sure I was logged out of the account when installing
Checked settings in iCloud. email doesn't sync to cloud or computer.
Everybody said they'd never seen this problem and didn't have any ideas beyond what I've listed. Next thing to try is to see if I can get the account installed on an
Android device. That would prove that the problem is Apple's. I'm grasping for straws. Any ideas?

Delete the account
Close back ground apps
Power cyc
Add the account as other, with the know good info.
If that fails restore the device and setup as new.

Hey. I added a few email accounts in Mail and I changed the passwords on all the other accounts. But the new accounts do not appear on my iPhone or iPad and the old accounts did't sync. They still have the old passwords. Help!
I am using Mavercks and iOS7. I used to select the accounts I wanted to sync in iTunes by selecting my iDevice and then clicking on the info tab but this tab is gone under Mavericks. So how can I select whick accounts I want to have on the iPad and whick on the iPhone.

Any ideas?

Thanks! I knew how to do that already :/ Just upgraded to a 5s and didn't want to manually enter my accounts and server settings again (there are 10 email accounts) as I actually don't remember most of the passwords. I backed up settings from my old iPhone 4 before swapping the sims over and have managed to restore the 5s from that backup which copied over all of my email accounts, great success! However, just had to access cpanel for all accounts to reset the passwords as they are not copied over.
