How do I Add an email account that uses my personal server

I have an Iphone 3GS and have been trying to add my regular email account that resides on a personal server. I put in the right incoming and outgoing info and then it says it can not contact my server. I am able to retrieve my email from the website mail2web.com so I know it lets emails be retrieved.
I know that when I set up my outlook exchange on my computer the internet provider would not let me just enter my server but required I use the comcast smtp server. Is this the same with At&T.
Help. This is driving me crazy.

Something is missing or wrong in your settings. OR your server is only accessible via VPN.

SMTP is for sending only; it shouldn't affect receiving. Some ISPs only allow access to their servers for sending if you are directly connected to their network. Others allow access from anywhere, but if they do you must enter a user ID and password even though the iPhone setting says "optional".

  • TS3988 How do I get the email account that was in icloud?

Hello, my manager handed me his phone off to resolve it and I restored and updated the iphone without knowing who was the account that was set up iCloud, and now I can not activate the phone. How do I get the email account that was in icloud that was configured on the phone? Starting email already know who is the account

No one can give you that.  Ask your manager to contact the previous owner of the device.  They are the only one who can help you with this, either by providing the correct ID and password, or erasing the phone and removing it from their account as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4515.

How do I add actual email accounts to home screen-not just HUB? Can anyone give me the steps?

Essentially the Hub area is a home screen dedicated to your communication. Tap on the lower left icon and each of your messaging sections has its own dedicated 'icon.' As JC mentioned, it is new and it may take a while to get used to it.. but once you do it really is a great way to deal with the unified messaging idea and it also allows you to break down what you are looking at very quickly. Just need to learn a few new tricks.  I've been on the Z for just over 3 months now and I could never go back...

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll normally be most likely to get help with general iTunes and iTunes Store issues if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
Answering quickly, though, this is a question you probably should ask of Apple through your iTunes Connect account. These are user-to-user technical support forums, so not many content providers who might know the specifics of the process participate here.

  • Dealing with two email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server

    Folks:
re:   mail.app  5.2 (MacOS 10.7.4) with respect to POP accounts only
I've read this thread multiple times, spent many hours experimenting, and my web searches haven't come up with any more useful help.
How do you persuade mail.app to accept settings for two similar, but distinct email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server?   Say, the accounts are "blue.example.com" and "[email protected]". These have different user names and passwords.   The SMTP server is "smtp.example.com".
I think this is the appearance of success: the SMTP Server List (as seen in edit-the SMTP-Server-List mode) shows:
Server Name                   In Use By Account
        smtp.example.com      [email protected], [email protected]
(Description column omitted for brevity.  And of course, mail.app doesn't show the little envelope icons.)
But I cannot reliably achieve this result.   When I select the SMTP server from the list for the second account --as suggested in the above-referenced thread--- I see the credentials (user name and password) for the first.  Should I overwrite them?  No, I don't think so -- I think that will break the first account.   I feel mail.app should present me with empty credentials boxes instead.  Maybe this happens -- sometimes.  But I can't see how to make it happen.  Am I simply overlooking something?
A slightly different way of asking about this issue:   Suppose  I manage to do a proper setup for the two accounts and they work.  Then I change the password for "[email protected]" on the server. What is a reliable way of reaching the SMTP credentials for that account to make the edit?  Same question for "[email protected]"?    Even when I successfully attach two accounts to one SMTP server, I seem only able to reach the first listed one to make changes. (In this case, "blue.example.com").
It is possible I'm missing something incredibly obvious...    I know the credentials for each account are distinct, but maybe mail.app copies them from the POP (incoming) settings.   Nah, that can't be, can it?   Or what?
Maybe I'm seeing bizarre things due to scrambled mail.app preferences.  I've seen it before on other apps: delete the current preference file, get an auto-generated fresh one, and sanity returns. But with mail.app, with the prospect of losing years of emails --yeah, I've done it--  I'm extremely reluctant to mess around.
    Suggestions, please.
    TIA

OK, I'm convinced.   The mail.app UI is BROKEN -- in my primary user account.  Such that it cannot reliably select an outgoing server for editing.
I created a new user account and installed some relevant example accounts in mail.app in that account.  No problem. Well, a bit obscure, but still fully logical and reliable selection of individual SMTP accounts for editing.
For the sake of clarity, I think it is best to mark this "answered" and repost, focusing on the symptoms and asking how one might go about repairing the problem.  So I'll do that.

I am trying to add additional email accounts for my kids. How do I go about creating one?

Log in with your primary account, then navigate to the Account Profile page. At the bottom, there's a section called Sub-accounts. You should have a button there for adding a new sub account.

  • How to add new email account that's not an email account?

I have Google Apps for business account and I've created a bunch of aliases that I need to have, let's take as an example info@<mydomain.com>. When I've tried to create gmail account info@<mydomain.com> I was getting info that this email address is already in use. At the Google support they told me that's because I already created this as an alias, which I get it, that make sense. But now, how can I create this - info@<mydomain.com> in Thunderbird to be displayed as separate mail account in my mail account list in the left window? This and all the rest of aliases I'm using. There is no such thing in tools->account settings as add an alias, there is only add mail account and this is not an account but an alias. I thought I'll try to do this as a new mail account with all the settings as this already existing mail account that this is alias of and after that I just rename the account into proper one but when I try to fill all the boxes in adding new mail account I'm getting the massage that user name or password is wrong. But I've triple checked the password and it's the right one. I've even changed then and typed new settings just to make sure but the error was the same. How and what should I do then?

A mail account = an email address.
You can have more than one email address using the same server settings.
eg: ''mail at mydomain dot com'' and ''info at mydomain dot com''
can be two separate mail accounts, each receiving their own mail.
'''Other option - Set up 'identities''''
This can be used as a catch all account, so if you already had a mail account for eg: ''mail at mydomain dot com''
you could add another identity = ''info at mydomain dot com''
This would not show in the Folder Pane as a separate account, but emails from ''info at mydomain dot com'' would be received into
''mail at mydomain dot com'' mail account.
Here is some good info on mail identites.

  • How can I add an email account in apple mac which ends with .consulting

We changed our email account and the domain name is .consulting. How can I add this account to my Mac mail?

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must use the previous Apple ID and password to unlock the device. If you do not know the password you might be able to recover it at this link:
    https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid
This normally will require that info is sent to the primary email address associated with the Apple ID. If you have an alternate email address assigned to that Apple ID you might get the password via the alternate email address.

    You're welcome.
Mail does not include an identity feature but their is a plugin available that provides for it which I haven't used and I'm not interested in using so I can't recommend it.
I access 7 accounts with the Mail.app and this has never been an issue for me.
You can make use of a Smart Mailbox which can semi-achieve what you want but messages in a Smart Mailbox contain a pointer to the original message in the originating mailbox only. Messages are not removed from the originating mailbox.
