How do I add docs to Finder window sidebar?

Hi
How do I add docs to Finder window sidebar? I used to be able to, now I can't. I can add folders but not docs.
best,
elmer

That feature has been dropped with Mavericks.  I've since added a folder to my dock and add the single documents to it:

Tried that. Dropdown window only offered these options: 'Lock Duplicate, Browse all versions. It did NOT give me the location of the document. I want to go to the document and attach it to an email. I cant find the document on my computer. There is no option to 'save as' under finder window. Only 'save a version'

Thank you rk. The usefulness of image capture had somehow pased me by. To answer my own second question in case anyone needs to know, to put your printer in the dock you open printer & scanner in preferences, highlight your printer and drag its icon to the dock (in chains if necesary!)

  • Deleting "Places" from Finder window sidebar

Until recently, it was possible to drag an item from "Places" on the Finder window sidebar onto the desktop to delete it. That function no longer works, so how do I delete places from the sidebar?
    Thanks,

OK, sorry. I found the answer here https://discussions.apple.com/message/13136900#13136900

  • Removing icons from Finder window sidebar after 10.6.7

Not a major calamity, but since upgrading to 10.6.7 I don't seem to be able to drag icons off the Finder window sidebar to remove them. In earlier versions of SL they would disappear in a small puff of smoke.
Right-clicking and contextual menu command does work though to delete the icons. Two machines - 24" and 27" iMacs, no exotic third-party software.
Curious if anybody else has seen this or if there's a fix?

Use command-drag, changed in latest update credit to I forget who.

  • How do I make a new finder window open 'inside' my home folder?

In finder I have set new finder windows to open my home folder, however it is actually opening the Users folder. So if I press down, it will select the next user in the list rather than selecting the first folder in my home directory.
This doesn't happen for any other folders. e.g. If I set it to open my documents folder and I press down, the first document in the folder will be selected.
Any idea how I can get this to work properly?

Double check in Finder preferences that you actually have set it to your home folder because your entire description is consistent with it being set to the Users folder. I don't see how it can be set to 'home' and open any folder other than that one.
Can you post a screenshot of the Finder preferences | General setting?

  • How to change fonts in the Finder window

How does one change change fonts in the Finder Window?
I've done it before and I know it's different in the Side Bar and for the fonts in Column View or List View.
It doesn't seem to be in Finder Preferences.
I can't find in in System Preferences.
    It's not in Font Book.
    Where is it???
    TIA

If you click the Action Gear you have the option to change font sizes. I am not sure if changing the font per se is possible without a system hack which I do not recommend.

  • How do I add and delete Finder Favorites

In the Finder window you can create Favorites - folders you want easy access to.
Now I'm ready to delete a few of these "Favorites"
The Finder doesn't seem to want me to.  It seems to want to trash the actual folders that these finder favorite aliases are pointing to.
How do I delete a Finder FAvorite?
I'm sure it's so simple.  Apple Help menu was no help

    Thanks for the heads up.
I use a MacBook Pro tethered to a desktop array of backup drives, a 20" screen and an external keyboard from some unknown previous generarion
Across the room is my old PowerBook G4 similarly set up.
If I look at the 2 old keyboards and the Powerbook keyboard, that key still has the squiggley on it and the apple logo.
Only when I squint over this keyboard at the actual keyboard of the MacBook Pro do I see the truth in your statement.  Clearly printed on that key is the word "command"
    Well bless my stars.
You taught me something else today
    Thanks again
    Steve
I'm going out to buy a new keyboard for my MacBook Pro anyway.  Th "e" key doesn't work well on this old kyboard.

  • How to make it not show Finder window when system starts up?

The subject is the question....a Finder window is always open when system first starts up and how do I make it show and not show? Thanks.

someone else had this problem too, check out this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1819909&tstart=150
He fixed it by changing his wallpaper settings....(lol, copied and pasted from my post in another thread) might not be the same fix as what you need, but heck, why not try, right?

  • How do I add iCloud to Finder sidebar

How do I add iCloud to the Finder Sidebar?  I have newly downloaded Mountain Lion OS X and not that when opening Finder > Go> ***/library   is not found.

You do this with the iWork documents stored in the cloud on the iCloud website - please see
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm9d1d48dc
iCloud does not have general file storage; at present only iWork and TextEdit documents can be uploaded to iCloud for access by your iOS devices.
Dropbox is completely independent of iCloud and is an online file storage solution.
what's the point of the iCloud?
    iCloud:
•Provides one main @me.com email address and up to three 'aliases' (additional addresses).
•Allows you to sync your calendars between your Mac(s) and iOS devices.
    •Ditto with contacts
    •Ditto with Safari bookmarks
•Provides a conduit which copies photos taken on any one device onto all the others
•Provides a fairly basic photo gallery (populated only from iPhoto for iOS)
•Provides 'Find My iPhone/iPad' to locate a missing device that is able to connect to a network
•Backs up the contents of your iPhone
•Syncs iWork and TextEdit documents (only) between your Mac and your iPhone
•Tracks the location of your friends (only with their permission)

  • How do I keep my new finder window preference set to open a certain folder on the server?

Since switching to Lion, my new finder window preference keeps resetting itself to default. When I open a new finder window I want it to be a certain folder on our server. This setting was persistent in Snow Leopard. Now I have to keep setting it back, sometimes more than once a day. Please help, its very time consuming to have to click through to get to the folder I use most often every time I open a finder window.
    Mac Pro (early 2009)
Processor 2.66 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    Memory 8 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3ECC
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)

Enabling thirds-party cookies is the default and if there aren't any other changes made then Firefox will show "Remember History"
Choosing the "Use custom settings for history" setting doesn't make any changes.<br />
If Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting then that is an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings are not the default to make you aware that changes were If all History settings are default then you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History" and the custom settings are hidden.<br />

  • How can I sort two open Finder windows differently?

I have two Finder windows open. I want to sort one by date and one by name. Whenever I try changing one window, Finder changes the other window too. What am I doing wrong?

    terry,
Now not optimal but you can open the folder you want to organize by say size, and name or Whatever, in to windows. Organize one by name for my example, and in the other start a spotlight search with a space (Hit the spacebar once). Change the search criteria from Macintosh HD and select the folder you were in, if the spotlight search isn't in list view change it to list view. And now you can organize the to windows independent to each other.
But as this is still not the most optimal solution I would send Apple your feedback by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Also I've never used it but you could look into MuCommander it might do what you would like. http://www.mucommander.com/

  • How can I set Toolbar in Finder Window as default ?

If I click new folder window (N) sometimes I get it with the toolbar and sometimes not. Is there anyway to set this as a default ? I can't find it in view/customize toolbar and I can't think where else it could be.
In Leopard (clean install) I also find that my side toolbar doesn't always respond the way it should. My side toolbar has a couple of sub folders and main folders that I use really regularly. I prefer list view. Again, sometimes, if I have clicked on a subfolder and then want to use the side toolbar to navigate up to the parent folder (easier, I find, if you are in list view, than other approaches), then the system refuses to respond.
Does anyone else have the same problems ?
    Thanks

I was running into what may have been a similar problem with the toolbar not showing up on some of my Finder windows. Trashing /Volumes/Macintosh HD/.DS_Store solved it for me (you'll obviously need to change "Macintosh HD" if you've renamed your boot volume). Your mileage may vary..

  • Finder window sidebar: clicking folders on server don't 'automount' volumes

    Hello,
Xserve 10.5.3, small group of clients, all 10.5.3
I used to have a setup working in which I had a number of some folders on the server that I stored in the sidebar of Finder windows. When I clicked on those folders, it would automatically connect to the server, using the stored username and password to authenticate.
Now, it doesn't work anymore. If I do this, I get minute of delay or so, and then I see that the server cannot be found. I have to go in the finder menu: go: connect to server and fill out login/pass; choose volume and then wait a bit.
Then access to the folders in the sidebar works.
I want the 'automatic' way back. Can anyone help ?
    Thanks,
    S.

    Hi
This long-running and still on-going post could possibly explain why:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1251475&tstart=30
Look for Gary Dailey's posts. Its hard to remember now but I've seen this problem off and on since 10.3, possibly even 10.2? As for the solution? Perhaps Apple can't find one if its been around that long?
If you are using Kerberos as the authentication method for AFP set it to Standard. It might help?
    Does this help?
    Tony
