How do I add music to my ipod from new computer and not loose old stuff from old computer?

Have a new computer and would like to add more music to my ipod. It won't let me keep my old music and add new music. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks for the info...sounds like it might work. So just to clarify because I am NOT a computer whiz...by changing the setting it will keep my old downloads on my ipod and now I can download new music with my new computer and add them to my ipod. My old stuff will not be lost. When I was on my new computer there was a button that said, "On this ipod"...I could see all of my old music, but wasn't able to make new playlists or manage them in any way. Will I be able to manage them? Or will they be "frozen" so to speak?
Also, where do I look for this setting?
Thanks so much for your time!

Open iTunes on your computer and select "Add to Library."  Then sync it to your iPad.

Hello Teddy53149 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
    Follow this procedure:
Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
As they recommend and as always when you're messing with administrator accounts back everything up first.

    Hi jdbarrett1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps you can take for issues with "other" data taking up too much space:

  • How do I add music to my iPod from a shared library?

This used to be simple. Now with the new iTunes it is driving me bonkers. My music library is on my old G4. I share that music with my Macpro laptop. I used to  move  a song to my laptop library. Then I could drag it to my ipod.
My new iPOd touch needed the new iTunes. I upgraded the laptop. Now I can view/play my shared library. I can't drag music to the library of my laptop though.
    HELP. What is the workaround?

  • How can i add music to my iPod 4 without removing the music that's already there ?

I want more music on my iPod 4 , and my dad has a lot of music that I like . We have one of those computers where there can be more than one user , so each of my family members have their own user account and they have different itunes and whatnot . Well I'm trying to add some of my dad's music onto my iPod but it's saying that if I do that , then I'll be having to remove my current music and sync my dad's . I don't want that , so is there a way I can keep my music and add his ?

  • HT1535 how do i add music to my ipod using the newest version of itunes?

having trouble uploading music to my ipod using the latest version of itunes

You add music the same way you always did. The default interface in iTunes 11 now doesn't show the sidebar, though. Either click the button for your iPod at the upper-right, e.g.:
or go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" after which iTunes will look much as it did in earlier versions.
    Regards.

First You Need To Show The Sidebar, To Do That You Need To Click On The Left Top Corner And Choose Show Menu Bar, And From The View Tab Choose Show Sidebar, The Device Should Show On The Left, Just Do The Same As It Was The Previous Version Of iTunes "Drag and Drop"

  • No matter what I've tried, I can't add music to my iPod. help?

The computer I usually use to add music to my iPod is broken, so I was trying to use a different computer in our household. When I plug in my iPod touch, it acknowledges that it is plugged in and everything. Then when I try to put music onto it, it goes through the motions of adding music, but when I look at the music section of my iPod, there is no music, and on the computer screen it says that it's on the iPod, but instead of having the names in black the song names are all in gray.
I've also paid for the iTunes Match service, but when I enable it and look at the music section on my iPod, it never loads the music. It just comes up with an empty loading bar that never fills. I do have music in the Cloud, but it doesn't come up.
I've tried backing up to the new computer and syncing to it, but it still doesn't add music.
If anyone can help, I'll name my first born child after you.

I had the same problem.  It was because I had maxed out my iPod's capacity.  Once I deleted some things off my iPod to free up space I was able to drag my songs onto my iPod without any problem.  Good luck.  Hope this solves your problem.

  • How to add music to my iPod Touch from iTunes 11?????

I can't seem to drag and drop music files from my iTunes to my ipod touch generation 5 by using the drag and drop method.
How can I add songs,If I can't use the drag and drop method?
    Nothing seems to work.
How should I fix this problem?????!
I am going to travel soon,I need to add new songs before my departure.
    Please help me ASAP.
    Thanks in Advance.

Step 1: Click on the Ipod button in the top right corner. (Make sure Ipod/AnyAppleDevice is connected)
Step 2: In the top right corner again there should be a blue button that says "Done" and then right underneath that there should be something that says "Add to..." click on that.
Step 3: After you click on that it should look something like this (picture below). So from here is where you can add music to your ipod/itouch/ipad/AnyAppleDevice. Also in the top left corner where it says "Music", you can click on that and change the types of media (Music/Movies/TV Shows/Podcasts/Apps) to add to your device.
I hope I answered your question with this.

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
