I went to a web site and downloaded a file to my C drive (MP3 format) that is not music. It is spoken, and is what i would call a 'Podcast', although i did not access it via iTunes as an official podcast. I then use iTunes "add file to library" function. But, it considers it to be music. I thought maybe drag/drop would work to let me add it to Podcasts, but it does not.
How can i get this file which i have imported into iTunes to be treated as a Podcast? First, i'd like it to appear on my iPod with 'Podcasts'. But, more importantly, if i stop listening in the middle, i'd like it to restart from that point the next time i start it again. Now, it is treated by the iPod like music, and so it starts at the beginning each time.

How do I add to my library, while keeping songs on external hd

I have a huge music collection on an external hd. When I "add to my library", the songs are being saved on my macs hd- I dont want that to happen.
I would like to be able to access my entire music collection thru itunes without using up all my macs memory.
My old pc used to add songs to my library, while keeping the songs on my external hd.

Another option is to have your iTunes library stored on your external hd.
Hold down the option key when you load up iTunes and you'll be presented with a dialog that asks if you want to open an existing library or create a new one. Create a new one and save it to your external hd.
Import your songs from wherever they are (I recommend enabling the copy to iTunes library setting in your options and then once you're satisfied, delete the originals which will now be duplicated).
From now on, everytime you load up iTunes it will automatically launch the library on your external hd and everytime you add a song it will automatically copy to the right place on your external hd.
Front Row will also act the same... it will automatically pick up your external iTunes library with no extra configuration. Easy.

That article is used for moving the iTunes media of a library to another location/external drive. It will use the same library on the same computer.
It's not for moving the library/media to a new computer/library.

Photos are on hard drive but missing in Lightroom 5. How can I add them to library?

My photo library, created on an iMac, is stored on an external drive. When I plug the drive into my laptop (with Lightroom 5), hundreds of photos are missing. If I try to select them from the finder to add, they are grayed out. What can I do? Thanks.

How can I add a User Library or Instrument Library to my Project Installer?

Hello All,
I want to includ some libraries for 2014 in my distribution installer in LabVIEW 2014.
Some of these files are located in Instr.lib and others in User.lib. There may also be some in vi.lib.
I have some devices and custom VI's I have written and would like to distribute these with my executable.
Is there a way to include these libraries automatically?
As it stands now, I have to install my application then manually copy these libraries which is obtuse.
Note that one of my user libraries is a directory of VI's, not a compiled libary (at this time).

You can manually add them as dependencies to a seperate folder in the exe build spec, and then reference that relative location in your main VI when calling them.
There is always the Post-Build action too that might help.

How do i add iPhoto 4 library to iPhoto '08?

I have recently replaced my iBook with a new MacBook, gone from OS X (10.3.9) to OS X (10.5.2), and from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iPhoto '08 (7.1.3).
I've been using an external hard drive to discriminately transfer files and folders, and it has come time to tackle my iPhoto Library. To be sure i would do it properly, i first imported a small number of photos from my desktop to the new version of iPhoto ... and i see that the old iPhoto library with folders branching out according to date has been replaced with a single "iPhoto Library" file. Presumably a drag and drop of the old library onto the new library would be ineffective.
I've searched through the Help files for any reference to upgrading my library, but i haven't found anything.
Is there a way that i can bring all my old photos (originals & edited versions) and all my albums into iPhoto '08 from iPhoto 4?

To upgrade from v4 to v7:
Copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the same location on the new machine. Then start iPhoto. It will upgrade the library to the v7 format. That's all. There is no importing involved.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
fyi There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

I don't know if you downloaded the Plug and Play or the IVI driver but make sure that you have installed the rest of the software such as VISA or the IVI Compliance Package.
If it is an IVI driver then you don't need to put the files anywhere, you just need to run the installer. If it is a plug and play driver, then double-click on the zip file and then extract the whole content to the lib folder.
Make sure that you downloaded the driver for the correct LabVIEW version.

I have a lot of data on a server. Looking for files would be easy with spotlight, but I didn't find a way to add the server to the list of places, spotlight is searching at. Does anyone know a solution for that?

Are you talking about AFP file sharing? I can't speak to OS 9 (it has been so long since I've used it), but with OS X, once you have made your connection via ⌘k (Go>Connect to server) or ⇧⌘K (Go>Network) and have logged in to the remote computer, you can drag its network disk icon (that is mounted/displayed on your desktop) onto your dock. Then in the future, all you gotta do is click on the icon on the dock. Bypasses manual entry of selecting which mount point to choose (if more than one present) and (if not storing passwords in your keychain) username/password entry. Or you can make an alias of it (⌘L) and accomplish the same thing. BTW, at least in OS X, if you enter the computer's LAN name (that which is displayed in its sys prefs sharing computer name field) in response to the ⌘k, that works; you don't need to remember by LAN IPA. Of course, you have to have enabled sys prefs > sharing > file sharing, added the appropriate folders to share, with whom what users you are willing to share what folder, and the folder sharing permissions.
