How do I add my Hotmail account to my Mail app on my MacBook Pro so that it synchronize automatically ?

Hi guys, I'm new to Mac. I know that you can add email accounts likeHotmail into your Mail app so that you can view, edit, modify, create and delete your emails and folders, etc. The questions I have are (1) can I see all the emails I have not just in the inbox but all the other folders as well just like if I was logging on to Hotmail via Internet Explorer ? (2) what happens if I read some emails, delete or move some emails, create new emails and send or save in draft, create or delete folders, etc in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, will this synchronize and reflect the same on my Hotmail account if I was to logging via Internet Explorer ? How about the other way ? If so, how do I set it up on my MacBook Pro to do this automatically ?
I know that this doesn't work with Hotmail accounts on my iPhone 4 via the Mail app. Everytime I read an email or delete an email on my Mail app, it does not synchronize or reflect the same on my live Hotmail account when I logging via Internet Explorer.
Any help, guidance or advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is so frustrating because I cannot understand what is wrong. When I add an event to my calender on my iPhone it appears in my calender on my MacBook which is perfect and very convenient. The same thing occurs with reminders; everything syncs perfectly here. However when I delete an email from my MacBook from the 'mail' appliaction it doesn't delete from the same built-in application on my iPhone. This is extremely frustrating as I have to delete the same email twice on two different devices. I'd appreciate any feedback that would help resolve this problem!

Calendars (and contacts) can "sync" between your MBP and your iPhone through iCloud because they really live on the iCloud servers and the two devices are clients. iCloud can accomplish much the same trick for email messages because the email really resides on iCloud email servers.
If the email resides on some other server, that server is responsible for whatever syncing will be done. IMAP servers like the iCloud servers are built for such syncing; other mail servers may or may not be. iCloud would not be involved with email other than iCloud email.
I understand Hotmail has been changing how their email servers are accessed. Check with Hotmail support for any changes you may need to make to keep up.

Hotmail.com has now become Outlook.com

Since Hotmail.com has become Outlook.com it should apply to you as well.

To summarise it should be possible to set it up in Apple Mail as (preferably) an IMAP type account, or also a POP3 type account. So far there does not seem to be a way to add the Contacts or Calendars to the respective programs on the Mac. Windows users can use Outlook and get all three.

I have a Hotmail account (ending in @hotmail.co.uk) that I pay a subscription for. I'd like to add this account to Mail, where I already get my AOL mail. Does anyone know the mumbo jumbo I have to type in to set it up? I have no idea what POPs and IMAPS are, so if someone could give me the exact settings I'd be really grateful, as I can't seem to find the details on the Hotmail site.
Also, I'd like to be able to organise it so that my AOL and Hotmail arrive in separate folders, if that's possible.
By the way, has anyone had experience of using the new "stationery" that Leopard users can tart up their email with? Will the message arrive in one piece at the other end, esp with the (unfortunate) majority who use Outlook Express?

Doesn't look like Microsoft offers a way to get your e-mail via POP3 or IMAP, only through HTTP, sorry. Here is a quick article on how to configure your Mail to sort of work with it (http://email.about.com/cs/macosxmailtips/qt/et042503.htm). Also, each mail account you add adds a "sub-folder" under your inbox, one for each account. You can view all of the messages in all of your accounts by clicking on the one INBOX, or expand the INBOX to see the actual inbox for each account (AOL, Hotmail, Gmail, etc).

I don't know how to configure my Mail program so I can receive gmail to my computer, and not have to get it using a Browser.
I have attended to configure, but it does not work: I get the following:
For Incomgin Mail Server I use:
mail.gmail.com
I get this response:
The POP server “mail.gmail.com” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field. If it still doesn’t respond, the server might be temporarily unavailable.

First off Gmail supports "imap" which will allow you to keep your computer Mail app, and gmail account in sync. I would suggest you setting gmail up for imap instead of POP.
1. Open Mail go to preferences, select Accounts.
2. In the account window in the left pane "Accounts" press the "+" button at the bottom to add a new account.
3. An Account window will appear asking for information, select IMAP for account type, Description put what ever you wish such as "Gmail IMAP" or if you are going to have more that one accunt fro gmail the "User Gmail IMAP", Enter your Name, and your new Gmail address ex. "[email protected]".
4. Enter the information for incoming mail. In the incoming mail server box type: imap.gmail.com, Your user name should appear in the User Name box automatically if it is incorrect the correct it, enter your password that you use to access the mail from the web with gmail. Then press Continue.
If all the info is correct it will let you continue, as mail at that point actually goes out to that gmail server and attempts a login with that account and password, if it fails at this point then some info like your user name and password are incorrect. If it all goes well go to step 5.
5. The next screen will be the Outgoing mail, in the Outgoing mail server: box type: smtp.gmail.com, select authentication and put in your username and password for that account like you did on the prev step. Then press continue. Mail will again go out to that server and attempt a log in to very the information. If all goes well then mail will come back with an account summary window, you can then press continue.
That should do it, if it doesn't work post back.

How do I get emails that I've already flagged (from my hotmail account) onto my mail app on my mac?

Hopefully you can help me, I have flagged some important emails on my Hotmail email account before I just recently switched to a mac. I have been using the email app for mac instead of going onto Safari and logging in that way since it's more convient BUT I've noticed that my flagged emails from my Hotmail account is not showing up on my 'Flagged' tab on the app, only the ones I've recently flagged.

That's how it works. The messages reside on the server and are read from there by your Mac and iOS device, so deleting a message means deleting it from the server, and obviously it will then disappear on your other devices. Think of it like webmail and it makes sense.
You can move the messages to a local mailbox on your Mac - just create a new mailbox, making sure that it's listed under 'On My Mac' not 'iCloud', and then you can simply drag any messages you want to archive to it. This will copy them down to your Mac and remove them from the server.

How can I get my emails back into my hotmail account from the Mail app

I started using the Mail app some weeks ago because I apparently needed it, to be able to open an invitation for an iCloud shared photo folder. As soon as I registered my email into the Mail app all my emails from my hotmail account where deleted from the hotmail server. I really hope that this is possible to revert because if not, it'd be a catastrophe for me. I use that account from several devices for work, and I need those old emails in the server to be able to work again!
I'd really appreciate any advice on this!

You can use the iPhoto Export feature to do that. Furthermore, it's the best way if you want to keep the quality of the pictures.
To put the photos in the Pictures folder, first open iPhoto and then, select Edit menu (on the menu bar) > Select All. Finally, go to File menu > Export, and export your photos to the Pictures folder, so they will appear on all Time Machine backups you create since then

How do I change my email account from IMAP to POP on my MacBook Pro

My email provider has changed and no longer uses Yahoo IMAP, so I need to change the email to a POP account but my MacBook automatically chooses Yahoo IMAP when I try to create a new account. Any suggestions how I can change from IMAP to POP?

My email provider is BT and they have just moved me from BT Yahoo Mail to BT Mail. I deleted the Yahoo email account and then used the Other Account option to input BT Mail, but unfortunately my MacBook decided that it still wanted me to use BT Yahoo. So for several weeks I keep getting locked out of my mail and get the message box "Can't access mail' or something like that and wants me to put in the Yahoo mail password which is no longer valid. HT1420 I have 5 computers already authorized with my Apple ID. How can I add one more. My home has 1 IMAC, 2 Macbook Pros, 1 Ipad and 2 Iphones. Why are you now limiting me to five computers on my Apple ID when I am clearly an Apple product supporter.

How to Transfer Windows Live .eml files to .pst mails to Outlook in MacBook Pro

I had been using a Vaio with Vista environemnt. My email software there was Windows Live Mail.
While changing to the MacBook Pro, I took a back up of all the folders and stored with on my MacBook Pro.
All the files here are .eml files.
On purchasing hte MacBook Pro, i also took Microsoft Outlook for Mac and have been using that for emailing.
But I cant transfer the .eml files to Outlook as it says I need a .pst file.
Have not been able to find a reliable (preferably free!) convertor.
Any help on changing the .eml files to .pst files on the Mac would be greatly appreciated.

The mail app on my computer is open but nothing is displayed on the screen. When I go to shut down a small message appears saying "unable to shut down as mail is still open". However, when I try to close the mail app it won't let me. What do I do?

pennbank is correct that holding the power button will stop the computer. But it stops *all* processes mid-step, which can leave some of OSX in an incorrect state because of pending internal file updates that were killed. I do not like to use that method if anything else will make it respond. For example, once the computer was not responding when I was using a BT trackpad. I eventually removed the batteries from the trackpad to force it dead, and the release of the BT channel freed the MBP.
