How do I add Norton safe search tool bar ?

I did my best to follow some other posted related questions and instructions on installing Norton (safe search) tool bar, but was unsuccessful. Help, please !

I'm no computer genius, but not a total idiot, either. I've spent the better part of (2) days trying to install Norton search safe toolbar on the supposedly latest version of Firefox, and now I'm only just one step closer to seeking mental therapy !!!! I've done the best I could with forum suggestions, and even chatted with Norton directly and followed their instructions, but still no toolbar.....there has to be a better way !! Maybe Firefox should try using Internet Explorer's program that was pretty much a 'no brainer' even for me !

  • When I downloaded Firefox 4, I lost my Norton Safe Search Tool Bar. How do I get it back?

When I downloaded Firefox 4, I lost my Norton safe search toolbar which not only told me what sites were okay to look at, it also contained all of my logon information for various sites and now, all of that is gone.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

    Yikes!
Many users will see references to an application called MacKeeper on various web sites and via pop-ups (and even re-directs) on their browser. Not only is it expensive for what it purports to do (freeware applications that do the same or more are readily available and in fact make up a large part of MacKeeper), it can sometimes install itself without the user realising it, and it can be very tricky to get rid of.
Most positive reviews of it have been found to have been paid for by Zeobit (developers of MacKeeper) in the form of ‘free upgrades’ etc. For example (posted by fellow contributor Softwater), on their Facebook page and on their webpage they have this apparent endorsement from UNC Charlotte:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-18670779-12515 7/450-259/Screen+Shot+2012-06-17+at+17.04.04.png
Softwater contacted the Director of IT at the College of Arts and Architecture UNC Charlotte, about whether they endorse MacKeeper and his response, quoted here, was:
No, please do not download and install MacKeeper. We have seen problems with this software in the past.
MacKeeper has been described by various sources as highly invasive malware* that can de-stablize your operating system, adding that it is unethically marketed by a company called Zeobit, with a history of making false advertising claims backed up with paid-for reviews, and a rip-off. One such opinion is:
    http://themacschool.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/mackeeper-is-scam.html
Further opinion on it and how to uninstall MacKeeper malware can be read here:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
MacKeeper have recently said that the uninstaller from here:
    http://applehelpwriter.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malwa re/
    now works.
    This is also worth reading:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=245
    Equally phoney was iAntivirus:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=341
until it was purchased recently (May 2012) by Symantic (makers of Norton anti-virus which does not work well with Apple OS X). Even after having tinkered with it, iAntivirus still fails to do the job properly and cannot be recommended.
There are no viruses that can affect Apple OS X and there is therefore no reason to run anti-virus software on a Mac, but a Mac, like all computers, can transmit viruses and malware to other users particularly those running Windows. Note, however, that Trojans are another matter and can represent a genuine threat, an example of which was the recent 'Flashback Trojan' which you can read more about here:

For further information you may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer some guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • When I use the Norton Safe Search box in Firefox 3.6.19 the letters that I type group together and disappear behind the search button at the end of Norton Safe Search....any help?

I don't know how much more I can add...However, when I type in the Norton Safe Search box up to the search button in Norton Safe Search I can continue to type but I can't see what is being typed because it doesn't allow me to see the trailing end of what I'm typing. This along with the fact that the letters and words don't always automatically advance a space, they group together as I'm typing and I have to stop, provide a space and continue once again. This only happens in Mozilla Firefox, I'm using Firefox 3.6.19. This doesn't happen in the Norton Safe Search Box in Internet Explorer

Maybe another extension that you have installed is causing that problem with that Norton Safe Search add-on.
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes <br />
Disable all other extensions and see if Norton works correctly. <br />
I so, start enabling extensions one at a time until you find the culprit.
If not, create a new Profile and verify that Norton is the only extension that appears in the new Profile and see if it works correctly. <br />
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
If not, the problem is with the Norton add-on.

  • Norton safe search no longer works with google search

Once I updated to Firefox 31 Norton Safe Search icons no longer appear next to Google search results! They worked fine before. They work if I use a different search engine (such as Ask). They work fine with other browsers such as IE11 and Chrome. Only Firefox 31 has a problem! Note that I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Norton Internet Security, and all my software and hardware is completely up-to-date with latest versions and patches (I'm an IT professional).

That's ok. I've since checked it out on another Windows 8.1 machine and the same thing. Norton worked properly with 30 and as soon as I upgraded to 31 the "N" disappeared from Google and other searches. I ran all Norton and Windows updates, still no good. That makes 3 machines. Mozilla needs to fix this or else I'll stop using Firefox since the Norton feature is essential.

If you either updated to Mountain Lion or updated to Safari 6 under Lion then there is a unified URL address bar with the search. I personally don't like it either.

  • My web search tool bar taking over FIRE FOX

I HAVE HAD TO UNINSTALL "FIRE FOX", BECAUSE OF A TOOL BAR CALLED "MY WEB SEARCH". WHEN I UNISTALLED FIRE FOX, I WAS ABLE TO RE-INSTALL IT USING "GOOGLE" AS MY TOOL BAR. BUT WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE "MY WEB SEARCH" TOOL BAR CAME BACK, AND AGAIN I COULD NOT GET IT TO STOP TAKING OVER FIRE FOX, EVEN WITH MY INTERNET OPTIONS. WHEN I CONTACTED "FIRE FOX'S" SUPPORT ON {1/17/2012}, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME! TO REMOVE WHAT THEY SAY IS A VIRUS! I THINK THIS IS STUPID, AND I HAVE UNINSTALLED " FIRE FOX ", AND I WILL NOT USE IT AGAIN, BECAUSE OF THE VIRUS....

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

How can I make disappear the finder tool bar in the second monitor?
(I have to use ProVideoPlayer, a professional application for presenting videos and I really need a clean second monitor!)

After changing that setting and logging out and back in as it indicated, do you still have two menu bars?
If you are already set up that way and want to move the menu bar to the other monitor, drag it there in the Arrangement tab of the Displays system pref.

  • I imported my favorites from Internet Explorer but I need to know how to display my "favorites" in the tool bar so I can access and organize them

I imported my favorites from Internet Explorer, but how do I display "favorites" in the tool bar so I can access and organize them?

It did merge them after a fashion, glad I took a backup first even if I did only perhaps create 3 or 4 bookmarks today. So if I have bookmark separators, it's going to figure out which group to put them in (no way). Anyway I thought they would just go down to the bottom of the bookmarks menu like the other method, like when I export and import bookmarks in Firefox where they do go to the end of the Bookmarks Menu folder and would simply delete one folder.
Anyway this would not be typical because I don't want any bookmarks from IE.

  • How Do I Add A Site Search Box?

I just upgraded my BC subscription to webMarketing and I am wanting to add a site search box to my site but I am having troubles with the directions found on the Adobe Website: Business Catalyst Help | Add a site search box.
My first issue is a simple clarification with item #4 under "Create a page to display the search results"
    4. In the editor, enter {module_searchresults} where you want the results to appear on the page.  What exactly is the editor? LOL is that just the Adobe Muse page and I use the text tool and create a box with "{module_searchresults}" in it?
My next, more critical issue is:
Add a search box to a template
Open the template in editing mode by selecting Site Manager > Page Templates, and choosing the template from the list of templates. My BC Admin page has "Site Manager" on the left - but when I click it - it only shows "Web Forms" and "System E-mails" I have no option for "Page Templates".
So how do I get "Page Templates" to show up.  I'm pretty sure my "webMarketing" subscription allows for a site search box...maybe I am mistaken.
    Thanks for any help!

The editor is that of the WYSIWYG editor in the BC admin itself.
The important thing to know is Muse is NOT BC, it is not the only thing you use to make a BC site, far from it. IT is a really basic tool to build basic sites. The instructions you will find on the BC docs will never reference the way to do it for Muse, just BC, or you can use your own code editor.
So you need to go login to your website admin and then you will find the pages, templates etc.
