How do i add people to my address book/Mail?( ...i have a new imac...)

hi .... i have a new imac and i want to add people to my mail/address book like i use to with my old pc (HP) computer by right clicking "add person to address book" ...but how do i do this with my mac ? ..i know the answer will be quite simple but please don't laugh.....i am just learning about the mac world and i love it.....

On the "Mighty Mouse" (which IMHO is far far from it) you just left and right click exactly the same as you would on any other mouse. It's just that Apple considers the buttons untidy and so has used touch sensitive pads instead. Read more here.
I'm struggling to understand your issues with Address Book. Within Address Book: to add a new person type Apple N (⌘ n) or click the + symbol at the bottom left of the contact pane.
Within Mail: Type a new address in to the To or Cc space then send/save the email. Next time you look at this message there will be a blue shade behind it and a little arrow. Click the arrow and choose Add to Address Book.
I suppose the gripe here is that within Mail you are presented a cut down Address Panel rather than the full blown Address Book application. Why not leave your views for Apple here after noting your issue I agree and so have duly whinged to Apple in this way myself.
kind regards

HOW TO TRANSFER FILES AND ADDRESS BOOK FROM WINDOWS PC 98 TO IMAC .

For addresses, general answer is to use Export function in your PC program and export in .csv (comma separated value) format. Then open Address Book app on new iMac and choose Import from File menu and locate the file you exported (on USB stick, or by email, for example). Should work! You've heard that before, right?
This page includes how to transfer files, among other questions that might arise. http://www.apple.com/why-mac/faq/

  • How do I add multiple birthdays to address book cards?

I am trying to figure out how to add multiple birthday's to cards in my address book.  Example I have Jennie & John Smith & their daughters Sue & Susie.  How do I add a birthday for each one?  There does not seem to be a way to add more then 1 birthday but I can add as many URL's, e-mails, phones, address etc. as I want?

    Hi RSER,
Apologies in advance for quantity of detail following..
Currently there appears to be no way to add an additional birthday. (Haven't explored command line options)
There are shareware options that will allow you to utilise the 'anniversaries' field to make additional birthdays and add them to iCal.
Personally, when I want that level of individual detail for a person I make a sep. card and add a note or 'related person' item.
I can only assume that the decision was made by Apple that we can have (and do) any number of phones and emails etc, but usually have only one birthday (some lucky people ie Queen Elizabeth have an official public holiday 'birthday' in some Commonwealth countries, so they get more gifts... but then have your issue)
With iCal you are potentially stepping into a minefield (so many things could be improved)
But consider that Apple have a key philosophy of simple.
There is enough for everyday use, but not so much it is overwhelming to the new user
If you want advanced functionality/technical capabilities, buy a 3rd party product
Certainly there are additions I would like to see:
The 'related names' field would be very useful if it were threaded within the address book to link/refer to other contacts, not just a static field.
Threading within contacts would also be convenient for adding names/addresses to an appointment in iCal (but not have to send requests etc)
Making a contact a 'Business', should allow multiple 'people', or as above, tie in multiple contacts
    Maybe something for v6...
Maybe I should buy another app too
Hope that at least eases the pain.

  • How do I share cards in my address book with other users on my iMac?

I setup our iMac so me and my wife login with our own account. The problem, however, is that contacts I add to my address book are not visible when she signs on with her account. How do I go about sharing this info? Come to think of it, how will I let her view the photos that are associated with my account too?
    Thanks.

    Nevermind.

  • Contacing my address book that I have a new email address, my mac address

Can someone help? I just discontinued my comcast service and will use my mac.com as my main email address. Is there a way I can contact my address book globally?
    Thanks,
    Ron

Start a new message. Select all the contacts and drag them to the BCC field of the new message. Put your email address in the To field. Add a subject and some text and click Send.
If you have more than 200 contacts it would be better to send them in groups of less than 200, and not do more than one group a day.

  • How do you add pictures to your photo book after saving it? Can you re-save it to send to blurb?

  • How do I re-install the application Address Book?

I moved the office Address Book from my office desktop computer onto my new laptop just by replacing the laptop application "Address Book" with the one from the office desktop. But now I can't open Address Book on my new laptop; instead I get the error message: "You cannot use this version of the application Address Book". Apparently the office desktop was running OS 10.4 while the new computer uses OS 10.5 and apparently the 10.4 version of Address Book is incompatible with the new OS?
How do I fix this? How do I get a version of Address Book that works on my new laptop running OS 10.5?
    Ken W. Smith

    Hello Ken,
    welcome to Apple Discussions.
*You don't need any 3rd party software like Pacifist to extract Address Book from your Leopard install Discs* ! First insert your Install Disc 1. Afterwards you only have to copy/paste the following command (in one line) into a Terminal (you'll find Terminal in Applications/Utilities) and press Enter:
    cp /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disc\ 1/System/Installation/Packages/AddressBook.pkg ~/Desktop/
This way you copy (cp) the Address Book install package to your Desktop (~/Desktop) where you can double-click it in order to run the installer. If the command given above doesn't work, check whether your install Disc is labeled "Mac OS X Install Disc 1". If need be change that name (be aware that for a blank space you have to put a backslash followed by a blank space in Terminal, compare command above). Report back.

  • How do you add people to photo share album on iPad?

How do you add people to photo share album on iPad?

Are you trying to email to iPhone cell numbers?  If yes, you can't.  That would require SMS, but iPad is MMS only.  This means you would need to text from your iPad to someone's email address who has an iPhone.  Also, they have to be on iOS 5 or higher.

  • HT5312 How can I add a rescue email address

How do I add a rescue email address. Have been in passwords and security but not getting the
option to add a rescue email,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to answer your security questions to add a rescue address, if you don't know these.
If you don't know these you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

How can i add a rescue email address? i have followed the information on the apple page but what they suggested didn't work/

Do you remember the answers to your security questions ? If you do then log into your account on http://appleid.apple.com, select the Password And Security section of your account's page, answer the two questions that show and you can then add a rescue email address : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
If you don't remember your answers then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the above steps to add a rescue email address for potential future use

Note that the rescue email address is not on the "Name, ID and Email Address" page -- you need to click on "Password and Security" on the left side. Even after you do that, it may or may not be available. As noted in the following it is only available if you have 3 security questions and are not using 2-step verification: Manage your Apple ID primary, rescue, alternate, and notification email addresses

How do I add a second email address in my email account with Shaw cable. It is already set up with Shaw but how do I add it to my incoming email

If you are using Apple's Mail setup is: Mail>Preferences>Accounts tab, click the + sign to add an account. You'll need the email account name and password to input on the first screen. Mail should then attempt auto-setup but if it can't do it you'll need to manually add the mail server info, etc.

n Mac Mail on OS 10.5.8 I am receiving bogus emails which claim to be sent by people in my address book, but actually are not.  How does this happen and how can I correct this problem

    You said:
I am receiving bogus emails which claim to be sent by people in my address book, but actually are not.
    ...and:
Are you saying that my address book has not been hacked into?  That others are getting these email addresses from another source?
This confuses me.  Are you saying that you are receiving bogus e-mails from some of your contacts, or are you saying that they are receiving bogus e-mails from you?
If the latter, there are a number of reasons that people might be getting e-mail from you.  Malware, though technically possible, is extremely unlikely.  See Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!
If the former, that's rather unusual.  The only decent explanation I can think of is that a bunch of your Windows-using contacts got infected with something and their machines are being used to spam everyone in their contact lists, which would include you.

  • Since the debut of iCloud, I cannot add spouse, child etc... data to the address book.  Anyone have a clue how to get it back??

Ever since iCloud went live, I cannot add any spouse, child etc... info to the address book.  Anyone have an idea how to get this back.  I tried to reset the template, looks like it has been removed.  I also de-selected the iCloud and selected on my local Mac in the accounts area in preferences. Still no luck. My address book entries prior to iCloud still have all the data and I'm able to modifiy if desired.  Any ideas??

I copied this from an extremely knowledgable iTunes for Windows user in another discussion. Maybe this will help.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit (iTunes) > Preferences > Store anduntick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit(iTunes) > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs and playlist views from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view.
If you are a Mac user, all you have to do is start navigating through the menu items at the top of the screen to find just about everything that is mentioned here.
