How do I add the add bookmark button - the plus sign - to the safari toolbar

The plus sign icon - to add a book ark, has disappeared after upgtading to Yosemite. Can I get it back?

The "Share" icon- an arrow out of the box icon- is moved to the right of the address bar in Safari 8/ Yosemite.
If you get "No Service" when you click the icon, follow the instructions in this article released by Apple.

If you are trying to turn on the bookmarks bar go to Settings>Safari>Always Show Bookmarks Bar>On.
But as ClayG said - there is no toolbar other than what is visible already in Safari - the < (back) > (forward) buttons, the Bookmarks icon, and the "add to/print" icon - the curved arrow pointing right that is next to the url/address field.

Just about everything on iMac can be adjusted for us old timers, except the Safari tool bar. The favorites bar has print which cannot be read without a magnifying glass. Placing grey type on a grey background compounds the problem. I am helping my older brother transition to Mac from PC via phone support, and he almost gives up. Changing browsers should not be necessary.

Add bookmark button and horizontal scroll bar - bugs on Snow Leopard

Safari after update to 5.1.4, has a bug in interface on Snow Leopard (10.6.8): 'add bookmark' button (combined with addres bar), and horizontal scroll bar didn't look good. I think, that shouldn't happend on flagship Apple browser, on just a little older OS X than 'Lion'.
Clearing (deleting files) 'Cache.db' and .plist files didn't help.

Ok.. maybe corrupted Safari preferences (.plist )
Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't help, go to Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If it's not a plugin, try troubleshooting Safari third party unsupported add ons > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

I have a layout for a form that I use constantly. Each form has a person's picture, or at least it's supposed to, along with their information.
How can I add a button or something so that every time I fill out a form I can easily insert that person's picture?

You cannot customize the Safari toolbar on the iPad.
What you can do on the iPad is go to Settings>Safari>Always show Bookmarks Bar>On and that will add a bookmarks bar on to the Safari browser.

Here is the workaround for sorting your bookmarks - you don't have to do it manually as suggested in the previous answer here. This is from a 2006 page at Hints.Macworld.com
"One thing that bugs me is that there is no option in Safari to alphabetize bookmarks. I had a crazy idea about how to accomplish this, and it seems to work. Hopefully I'm not missing something more obvious.
What I did was open the Bookmarks window (Bookmarks: Show All Bookmarks), put the links I wanted to alphabetize into a folder, and then dragged that folder into the Finder. The Finder alphabetizes the bookmarks; you can then just drag the folder back into the Bookmarks window. You probably have to set the Finder to arrange files by name before it will work. Hope this helps!
[robg adds: When you drag the folder back, you'll now have two folders, the original and the sorted one. Just delete the original, and you're set. You can also do this without first creating a Safari folder. Just select all the bookmarks to be alphabetized, drag them into a new folder in the Finder, open that folder (make sure it's set to sort by name or use column view), then drag the now-sorted bookmarks back into Safari's Bookmarks window. If you're like me and you like to keep all of your bookmarks in folders in the Bookmarks bar, then from the Bookmarks window you would open the Bookmarks Bar in a window of its own before doing the above.

I had the same problem and was able to remove the empty apps bar by doing the following:
1. Click on Tools in Mozilla; 2. Click on Add-Ons; 3. Click on Extensions; 4. Look for an add-on called Conduit app; 5. Click to the right of Conduit app to Remove Conduit App; and 6. Restart Firefox: hooray - it's gone!

Sorry, den.thed, I've looked 'til I'm blue in the face! There is but ONE radio button--the "Install Now." Once you've clicked on it and the extension installs, that same radio button greys out and you can (barely) see the word "Installed" on it, and there is no other button available (see the image below.)
I've never seen software where you could not uninstall an extension.

Unfortunately, after I had posted it, I realised that I hadn't made myself clear and posted a subsequent question, which was 'how do I install the menu bar for Safari?' Someone has replied to say that.I need to upgrade to ios8, but unfortunately I only have a first generation iPad which doesn't support this. Do you know of any other way to install the menu bar?

Sorry, but you must Command + for every page. It's not permanent.
If you haven't tried yet, check out Zoom in Safari > Preferences > Accessibility

There is no brightness toolbar unless your iPhone is jailbroken. If so, you can try to restore to remove the JB.
The only place brightness exists is under Settings.
