How do I adjust audio levels at various points on timeline??

How do I make volume level adjustments in a single clip on the FCP-X timeline?  I have a music bed and need to adjust audio levels at various points in the song.  In past Final Cut programs.  This should be very easy but I can't find how to do it in Final Cut Pro-X.  I don't want to adjust the entire clip.
Also, I recorded voice on channel 2 and shot gun on channel 1.  I only want the voice (channel 2).  How can I select a individual channel once I have edited the piece.  I know I can re-import the video and designate which channel to bring in but I don't want to have to do that.
Thanks!!

Select a range and lower the level, or hold the Option key to click on the level line to add a keyframe.

  • CS6 - how do I adjust audio level part way through a clip using audio mixer?

Hi there - I'm using the trial version of CS6 and will almost certainly buy it. I've watched lots of the video tutorials but am stumped on this simple issue!
    1. Let's say I have a clip and I want to increase the audio level part way through a clip.
    2. In Example A below I have added a keyframe at the point I want to change the volume.
    3. I then went to the audio mixer and increased the volume level using the slider. But nothing changed on the clip.
    4. The only way I could get it to work was to add more key frames after the first one (see Example B) and increase the volume on the timeline.
    5. This is very fiddly and I'd prefer to be able to do this using the audio mixer. Is this possible?
    Example A                                                                                                              Example B

With the proper Send settings (Write, Touch, etc., as Craig mentions), you can easily ride the Volume in real-time. I like to add a Numbered Marker to where I want the adjustment to begin, hold, and then end, so that I have several visual clues, besides the aural ones.
I also have found that the default setting for Audio>Minimal Time Thinning Interval places too many Keyframes on the Track, so I have bumped that up in Preferences.
Also remember, the Keyframes added with Audio Mixer are Track Keyframes, and not Clip Keyframes. If you were to remove all Clips, those Keyframes would still be there, and would affect any Clips that you added back.
    Good luck,

  • How do I adjust audio levels

I used to be able to click the arrow key on the audio track to show wave levels and bring the bar level down to adjust the audio? I don't see the arrow button in the timeline for the audio anymore.

    Hi vnext,
Thanks for the post. If you are using Premiere Pro CC then go to the audio track and scroll the mouse wheel over it, this will expand the audio track and you will see the waveform. Also , make sure that the audio waveform is selected in the wrench icon that you see in the timeline( near timecode in the timeline).

  • Adjust audio levels between keyframes

    Hello,
What is the shortcut to adjust audio levels between keyframes (in sequence)? I know the shortcut CTRL ] [ , but this shortcut adjust audio level for entire audio.
I also know I can drag up and down the levels between keyframes using mouse. But some months ago I saw a tip ( from Steve martin) showing
how to adjust audio levels between keyframes using a shortcut..and better,in RT. but I forgot what is the shortcut.
    thx

there is no shortcut command for this in FCP, you need to use the mouse to drag the audio level up or down
perhaps its another application your thinking of?

I have a project on Imovie with pinned audio to the project. I want to know how to stretch the audio to a specific point of the song?

See this Tutorial for how audio works in iMovie. In general, you drag the left or right edge of your audio clip.
You can also use the Clip Trimmer. Click the Gear icon in the music track and select the Clip Trimmer.

  • How to use pen tool to adjust audio levels

    Hi,
I've been using the pen tool to adjust the audio levels in FCE. When I do, however, I get curved line segments (kind of like a parabola) between the audio keyframes. I'd like to get something easier to control... i.e. straight line segments. Is this possible? How would I accomplish this?
    Thank you!

Add a couple more keyframes and adjust them so the line is straighter. You can drag the keyframes along the audio line & move them up & down to adjust the shape of the curve.
The default shape is curved in order to align with what the human ear considers a 'normal' change in audio levels to be. Human aural sensitivity to changes in audio levels (aka loudness) is not linear - it is more or less logarithmic in shape. That's why the curve.

  • How to adjust audio level on timeline?

    Hi,
I want to adjust the audio level using the pen tool on an audio track of the timeline... and I've done it before, but I can't for the life of me remember how. I've imported a voiceover, and have a separate track with the background music. How do I adjust the music level up/down at the point where the narration kicks in/out?
    Thanks very much!
    Vic

Click on the Clip Overlays button (the zig-zag line at the bottom left of the Timeline window). That will give you a pink line in the middle of your audio tracks where you can use the pen tool.

  • How do I shift clips and audio and adjust audio levels in CS5.5

    OK, a couple of things.
I'm trying to shift everything over (this includes videos, some name supers, and unlinked audio) so I can insert some music here and there. I can drag the music on to Audio 2 or something, but I still want to scoot everything else over a couple of seconds. Is there an easier way to do this?
Secondly, I want to adjust the audio levels on the music. SO I want it to start off soft, grow louder, then back down until you don't even notice it. How would I do this? Thanks.

For the Nudging of multiple Assets, have you tried Selecting them all, and then using the Cursor Keys (arrows) to Nudge, one Frame at a time?
For the ramping up/down of the Audio Volumes, there are several ways to do that. Keyframing the Fixed Effect>Volume (in the Effects Control Panel) will allow one to adjust the Volume up/down over time. If you have never done Keyframing, then I would start with the Help File, as there are a lot of things to learn. Once, however, you have concepts and mechanics down, Keyframes are easy, and so very powerful. This article discusses several ways to adjust Volume/Gain, and might be useful: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3472343#3472343

  • Adjusting audio levels in a clip

I've just stepped up to iMovie 08 and I cant seem to find a way of creating different audio levels for the one clip. It seems like there is just one audio level *per clip*. Unlike the old version where you could adjust the audio 'wave' up and down where ever you wanted.
    Is this correct.

It's a while since I used iMovie '08, but from memory I think the audio worked in a similar fashion to iMovie '09. In iMovie '09 you can right-click (Control-click) on a clip, then select Split Clip from the pop-up menu. First, click and drag across the clip to highlight with a yellow border the section where you wish to adjust the volume. Then right-click and choose Split Clip. The section you highlighted will now show as a separate clip.
Click on the small gear icon on the separated clip and choose Audio Adjustments from the pop-up menu. In the Inspector that opens you can adjust the volume of the clip. Also, if you have a separate music track or voiceover running under the clip, you can use the Ducking feature to reduce the volume of the other tracks. Tick the Ducking box and move the slider to the desired level. You can also fade the audio in and out on the main video track for the separated clip.
Sorry if this advice is not entirely applicable to iMovie '08 (I don't have access to that version at the moment). But this is how it works in iMovie '09, if that helps at all.

  • Adjusting audio levels on an entire audio track

it may sound like a rookie question, but how do i change the level on an entire audio track, start to end. i am not interested in a "nest items" command, but in a situation that lowers every audio clip on the track by x and allows me still to see all the clips in the sequence and do further adjusting on a single clip if needed.
    any ideas?
    many thanks,
    KN

To elaborate on what Max advised (also available through Modify->Levels), you have two choices for a gain level changes: "absolute" and "relative."
A "relative" adjustment will change the levels relative to where they are now. For example, the current gain level is at 6db then keyframed to 9db over the course of a clip. Making a relative adjustment of -4db will result in the gain levels being set to 2db at the first keyframe and 5db at the second keyframe.
An "absolute" adjustment will set the gain level to whatever value you enter, regardless of what its setting is prior to the change. Using the above example, making an absolute change of -4db to the same clip would result in the entire clip set to -4db.

  • Adjusting audio levels

    Hi
I'm working on material where the footage has been filmed by different people and (lucky me), the audio levels are not consistent. On a particular one, the sound level on the camera was turned down so low (I presume) that after capturing, it is barely audible. (and no, there is no chance of refilming the footage!)
I have whacked up the level within FCP but this is obviously causing me problems because you can hear that buzzing noise (dont know the correct term!) that you get when you turn the volume up of something.
I have sort of tried to apply the audio filters here and there to see if it makes any difference but because I'm unfamiliar with terms like frequency, band width, gain etc, I don't know exactly what should be adjusted.
Any ideas would be really useful
    Cheers
    Jenny x

If you are using FCP 5, then you should take advantage of Soundtrack Pro. You can boost audio levels (normalize) and remove ambient noise/hum/etc.
You can get a taste of how to reduce noise in the STP Quicktour:

  • Adjusting Audio Levels Of Two Tracks

How do you adjust the audio level's of different tracks. I have a video and for parts I want the background music (two channel stereo) to play and for other parts I want to hear the audio from the video (two channel stero). Also, for some parts I want to hear a mix of the two tracks.
From previous experience the audio from music is a lot louder than the audio from my video camera thus, I will need to adjust the volume of the music track (make quieter) or the audio of my video track (make louder) to obtain a consistent audio level for the whole movie.
    Any help is much appreciated!

    Changing audio levels?
At the bottom left of the Timeline is a button with a ZigZag line. This is called the Overlays, it puts lines over the clips in the Timeline that can be adjusted, they represent the audio levels or video opacity in the case of video tracks.
With the lines visible, Click the Pen Tool (P key) and the cursor changes to a Pen Nib. Click the red line in the audio tracks to insert Key Frames (pink dots).
You can drag them up and down to change volume. Put in at least two to change levels from one point to the other, they can be dragged left or right as well, to lengthen a fade, for example.

  • How to fix inconsistent audio levels

I've got video footage from a presentation and everytime the speaker turns his head to look at a screen, the audio level drops significantly because the mic was placed on the wrong side.  I have clips where half the audio is fine, but half is significantly lower.  I have a full timeline of clips like this, and want to know what the quickest way to bring the low volume up without raising the parts with high volume.  I do not want to have to go in and manually adjust the audio for just the lower volumes within a clip.  I thought normalizing all peaks would do this, but it also raises the high volume along with the low volume parts.  I just want to raise any peaks that are below, say, -4 db up to -4 db without increasing the pieces that are already at or above -4db.

There are several ways to adjust Volume, or Gain, in Audio in PrPro. This ARTICLE goes into a little detail on using each.
Personally, I like Richard's suggested method, but one must remember that the Audio Mixer adds Track Keyframes for the automation. If one were to later edit the Clips on that Audio Track, those Track Keyframes remain, where they were, and do NOT follow Clips. Still, as I do the final Volume adjustments AFTER my editing, having Track Keyframes is not an issue.

  • Adjusting audio levels in iMovie HD

    Hello all,
I just completed a 10 min video for a friends son's bar mitzfah and need to adjust the audio levels of the songs I used. What is the fastest way to accomplish this? At the bottom of the viewer in iMov ie HD is a speaker with 100% next to it, is that what I use?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to discussions!
Highlight the audio (it will turn purple) by clicking on it.
Then check the edit audio box and use the "100 %" slider to your liking. Be sure to uncheck the edit audio box when you are done.
