How do I adjust Fan speed?

Hi Guys,
Recently I got my self a AMD XP 2600+ for my K7N420.
Before I had a AMD 1200.
Now the thing is, the fan used to always run at 4500 but now it only comes merely above 4000. How do I adjust the fan such that it goes at 4500 again?
Who can help me?

Is this the same fan?
Is it plugged into the motherboard or directly to power supply? Maybe direct connection for more power.
500 rpm probibly doesn't change much anyway.
What dcb is the fan rated? Maybe quieter just to leave it as is.

• How can I adjust fan speed?

Hi; I have an HP Comaq Presario CQ57. The fan has gotten pretty loud; even when I first turn on the laptop and it is well ventalated in a cool area it is obnoxiously loud. Is there any way I can turn the fan off or adjust the fan speed? (I know it's risky so if you're going to tell me that please make sure you answer my question as well )

You can try a program called speedfan which is a free download
http://download.cnet.com/SpeedFan/3000-2094_4-10067444.html
It's a pretty hard thing to use but it does give a readout of temperatures, which is useful even if you can't use it to adjust fan speed. Also go into the BIOS (F10) and see if there is a fan always on option and if so deselect it.
The fan is running fast for a reason. It is a symptom not a disease. Very likely the computer needs to be opened up and cleaned out inside. Post back if you want some direction on how to tackle that chore.

• 27" iMac how can I adjust fan speed to cool more?

Is there a program in the OSX to check fans and temp?

Of course. To check temperatures, you can use Temperature Monitor > http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
To adjust fan speeds, use smcFanControl > http://www.eidac.de/ Be careful with fans because you mustn't set a fan speed higher than 2000 rpm. You will have problems in the future if fans work at a higher speed all the time

• How to disable dynamic fan speed?

I have MSI 865P Neo. How to disable dynamic fan speed?

jpscwf:  Personaly I always keep my fans on maximum anyway so I havn't tried saving settings at a lower level, better to have too much cooling anyway, rather than have your chip burn up..
netreaper:  I may be wrong, but if your not running the corecell program then I don't think the fan speeds are adjusted.  In any case, follow the instructions I gave above, and set both the fan speeds to maximum, that way you allways get the maximum cooling possible.  Problem solved.

• MUSE: How do you adjust scroll speed in parallax site?

My site is 1 long page.
I have put anchors in different sections to mark the places where I want to scroll to when I click on the menu
(I have removed all links to other pages on the menu and replaced the hyperlinks with the anchors).
The site works, but the menu doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the rest of the content when I'm at the bottom of the page and I'm scrolling to the top via the menu.
How do I adjust scrolling speed based on the distance between the current view and the section of the page I want to scroll to?

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Your solution also led me to finding this: http://css-tricks.com/snippets/jquery/smooth-scrolling/
So I think I'll do it that way.

• Unable to adjust fan speeds after OS X reinstall

Hi all,
I recently had a problem with Mac OS X on my MacBook Pro that eventually led to me reinstalling the OS from scratch. I erased the drive completely and did a clean reinstall using the Mac OS X 10.4.10 discs that came with the MacBook Pro.
Prior to reinstalling the OS, I was able to use the smcFanControl utility to adjust the fan speeds in my MBP as I saw fit. This was a great solution to keep a good balance between noise and temperature. I kept them running at 6000 RPM most of the time because I work on the computer at my desk most of the time. However when I take it to school with me, 6000 RPM is too loud to use comfortably in my classes. I used to be able to lower my fan speed to 4500 RPM, but since reinstalling, running smcFanControl will lock my fan speeds at the max (6000 RPM) and not allow me to lower them. Attempting to enter values manually tells me that I am attempting to lower the fan speeds below the minimum allowed value, but the fans are supposed to be able to range between 2000 RPM and 6000 RPM.
I'm not sure why an OS reinstall would break settings like these, but it appears that it has. Does anyone have any idea how I can reset the range of fan speeds back to what they're supposed to be?
Thanks very much!

Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you but I finally gave this a try and it did not work.
I am currently using the Fan Control application you linked to (as I have been even before I came here) but the variables in that program don't allow me great enough control over the fan speeds. It is temperature-based, which I like, but the minimum and maximum values generally keep the fan speeds too low and the machine still too hot. I am using it temporarily but I much prefer smcFanControl because it allows me to set the fan speeds directly.

• How can I control fan speeds in Win7 on a MBP-R for gaming?

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It has had Windows 7 installed and I want to play some 3D action games. How do I stop internal parts from overheating? I intend to use a USB cooling pad but that'll do nothing if the internal fans remain at idle speed.
The only Windows fan speed control utility I could find was the 4-year old SpeedFan which fails to detect the presence of any internal fans. I'm not impressed with the Windows community's failure to offer more and better than this tired old relic.
So the questions remain:
(1) Is the hardware still capable of automatically accelerating the fans as temperatures rise while gaming in Windows?
(2) What In Windows forces the MBP-R to lock the nVidia GPU into continuous duty and ignores Intel GPU?
(3) What control does the user have for (2)?
(4) How can I protect my MacBook Pro/Retina from overheating while playing PC games, apart from not playing games?

Moved from the Creative Cloud to the Lightroom forum. They will be able to help you here.

• Unable to monitor/adjust fan speed? (GX740)

So i've got some gpu heat issues that I was attempting to rectify by jacking up the fans earlier when i discovered the fans operate outside of my monitoring or control... I'm using GPU Monitor 3.5 which picks up the load, temp and any other myriad of information from the gpu but the fan speed is pegged at 100%... even though i can hear it freely adjusting itself. I've tried acouple different programs but the end result is always the same. Any particular reason the fan would be showing no info?
thanks
mike

You can ask Svet to modify a BIOS for you.

• How do I adjust the speed of an audio clip only in Preimer Pro CC?

• Satellite A500-138 - How to change the fan speed?

Hi,
I have a question how to I can change speed fan on my A500?
I mean with BIOS change power, I dont have advanced option on my BIOS so I cant change that... Any ideas?

Hi buddy,
You can change the speed fan in Windows Power Management. Therefore Toshiba Value Added Package must be installed but its already installed if you use the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba.
Open the Power Options: Start => Control Panel => Mobile PC => Power Options
Click on Change plan settings and in advanced settings you should see the option Cooling Method. There you can change between 2 different modes.
Check this!!!

• How to reduce cpu fan speed just by hardware?

Hi,
I have a K8N Neo4-F, AMD3200+ and "arctic cooling freezer 64 pro" as cpu fan. The rpm range of this fan is from 300 to 2200. I use "cool n' quiet" and "Smart CPU Fan Target with 40°C" as bios setting. When the cpu is idle ( ... just doing some typing or so on ...) it has a temperature of 32°C and the fan has ~950 RPM.
I think the fan speed is to high for this cpu load (< 5% and 1000Mhz CPU Clock). My expectation in this szenario is to have the cpu fan speed near the lower bound (300 rpm), but I don't know how to manage this (with just bios settings)  ... any hints?
Thanks a lot ...

My point was you did what D.O.T. is supposed to do without using it.
Of course it's point is to auto-overclock the system to whichever degree it's set at. The problems come in because a lot of the settings it uses aren't always compatable with a lot hardware combinations. That's why it's best to come up with your own OC settings that are stable with your parts.
It's just like how the Nvidia/ATI speedup option seems like a good idea, but works poorly in practice.
Both are more useful to the marketing dept. in having more "why tech" features available to print on the outside of the retail box than they are to the end user.

• Windows 7 - Possible to adjust fan speed UP with "official" tool?

I just got a new T500 with the switchable graphics option, and windows 7 Pro x64  installed.
When playing a game like TF2(i.e. maxing out the ATI discrete card), the system gets fairly hot - Not critically, but the rear-left corner of the system gets hot enough to be annoying against my leg.
As such, I'm looking for a way to increase the fan speed at higher temps - when I'm gaming, I don't really care about noise; I either have loud sounds happening or headphones.
Is there any more-or-less official solution to do what I want, or do I have to resort to an unofficial tool like This one?
Thanks,
-Robbie

so you are using the laptop on your leg? there is no official tool as such for setting the fan speed at certain level, as it is regulated by the computer thermal management circuitry as needed.
However, i highly suggest you try to use a laptop cooler, and don't use the laptop on your leg when playing games, as prolonged usage could cause first degree burn to your skin. This is why some laptops are called notebook and carries a warning against using the laptop on your lap.

• How is the ODD fan speed controlled?

I have a 2006 iMAC. The HD and CPU fans perform as expected, but the ODD fan 'goes like the clappers' even when the drive is not in use. I have read elsewhere the ODD uses the same sensors as the HD, is that the case? I have tried the SMC reset a couple of times but I guess this could be a hardware or firmware problem. The fans have 4 wires, I guess there is some sort of feedback system that tells the logic board the fan speed. I am an engineer, but new to MAC hardware. Any ideas chaps?
Many thanks, Andy

There is a thermal sensor on the optical drive that controls the ODD fan and either it is disconnected or there is something wrong with it.

• Tx2500: adjust fan speed manually

Like every other TX2000 series owner, mine overheats a lot.
Seemingly unlike every other TX2000 series owner, the fan on mine never runs at full speed. The fan used to run at full speed. It's very loud at that speed, but I'll take the noise over the heat anyday. Sometime in April or March (2009) it stopped running at full speed. In fact, now the fan never really speeds up from the baseline.
SpeedFan (program) sometimes reports my CPU at a temp of 80celsius, whereas it used to hover around 50celsius.
How can I make my fun run full speed again?

I have the same problem and have tried every fan control program out there. I bought this piece of dead weight for my son to use in his graphics and animation classes. He phoned me up one day freaked out as it was running at over 90 C and he thought he smelled burning phenolic. My son has since purchased components and built himself a desktop that actually works as specified, rather than this trash tx2500, which I have now had the misfortune of being burdened with (and it is a burden).
I don't know what is wrong with the IMHO "tools" at HP, maybe they just can't program properly, they have certainly screwed the dog on this one and every user that bought one of these $1200 paperweights. I tell you, I will never buy another HP product until they fix this tx2500 problem and I have 11 computers on my home network, never mind the company.
A very simple solution to the problem would be HP giving the porting info for the fan to the guy at Alnico.com (speedfan) and since he has a good working fan control program (unlike HP), let him sort it out, he could be a hero to a lot of people that are seriously perturbed (use your own explative) with HP. But we know that won't happen, HP is seemingly incapable of admitting an error or forwarding what they deem to be "sensitive information" (everything) and generally defer to their deadweight lawyers.
Personally and it's only the opinion of a guy who has been developing hardware, firmware and software for 35 years for governments, universities, research organizations and the military, this looks like engineered obsolescence to me and hence product misrepresentation, since the tx2500 can never run at full speed without seriously overheating AND THERE IS NO AVAILABLE FIX FROM HP!
I think I am going to have to dissassemble the BIOS and rewrite it or hardwire the fan to make this thing work properly. I hate doing other people's jobs because they can't do their own.

• How can I control my fan speed?

How can I control my fan speed on my macbook pro? I use SMC for gaming and streaming video from the internet when using my Mac OS, but I partitioned my drive and installed Windows 8 in order to play a different game (not a huge game) and the computer heats up dramatically when playing on Windows through Boot Camp to the point that it freezes every time (it never does this when playing a mac game or streaming on the normal partition Mac OS).
Any suggestions or programs to control fan speed of the mac from windows?

Get a cooling pad.  That will much better than trying to constantly adjust fan speeds.
Ciao.
