How do i advance songs on my ipod nano (7th gen) without using the touchscreen?

On my old Ipod (3rd generation i think) I used to be able to use the round disc to advance songs and control volume. Now, on my new 7th generation model, It seems I have to use the touch screen to advance songs. This is difficult when I am riding my bike, hiking, or just workiing out, I used to just have to reach down and press the disc, now i have to be lucky enough to touch the arrow on the screen to advance to the next or previous song. I did notice on the little side bar you can control the volume and play/pause the song..but not advance songs. Does anyone know another way?

thankfully I was just able to find the answer in another member's post. You can double click the side button to advance the songs. I credit member little goomba for sharing the answer on another post. Now I am back to loving my new Nano!

I just recently got an Ipod Nano 7th Gen and the music keeps cutting out when I use bluetooth headphones. It seems like it needs to have a line of sight or else the music will cut out. If I hold the ipod in my hands while running or keep it in my pocket, I am listening to more pauses than actual music. I practically have to hold the Ipod up to my head while running to not have it cut out on me (and that is obviously not comfortable). Is this how it should be or do I have a faulty Ipod? Hoping to find out the battery life of the new nano (7th generation) while using bluetooth. Has anyone found out how many hours the new one gets with BT?
I have the 6th generation nano, and while using bluetooth it only makes about 3 hours before being fully drained.

When you connect the ipod and are prompted to erase and sync....just click cancel. Then click the ipod name below devices in the itunes source pane. From the ipod summary screen you want to check manually manage music and videos under the options tab. Apply the changes and you are now set to manually sync. HT1363 Using iPod nano 7th gen with Bitlocker

Hi guys,
Quick question on using iPods on Windows machines that have Bitlocker enabled - how do i prevent the iPod from showing up as a removable drive? I have disabled disk usage in iTunes but no luck. The problem is that Bitlocker is trying to encrypt the iPod, which renders it unusable anywhere else
Strange thing is that the behaviour seems to vary between iPods, i have:
-iPod Classic 5th Gen - issues
-iPod Touch - no issues, works like a charm
-iPod Nano 7th Gen - issues
On the same machine my iPad 2 work without issues.

iTunes Match requires a connection to the Internet; an iPod nano has no networking capability. Everything for the nano goes through your computer.
If you want the songs on the nano on your iPad, they need to be transferred to your computer and then added to your iTunes library. You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilties that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are in your iTunes library, the will be added to your iTunes Match library in iCloud. You can then add the songs to your iPad from your computer or from iCloud.

You can't add any iOS to a Nano since it doesn't run iOS.
For iTunes purchased music connect to your computer and in iTunes go to File > Transfer purchases.

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

How can I lock the ipod nano 7th gen? Just pressing the top button doesnt cut it as it still starts to play music or pauses or change volume with the slightest knock im in 2 minds to take it back if you cant lock it as ive only had it 4 days and already found this a huge problem!

Hi! I really couldn't find no way to lock the screen, except pressing the top button (what only cancel any touch you do in the screen).
That's an old discussion about (failure vs feature), but I wonder about if you are running, you can let the screen locked and still change or pause the song by pressing the buttons on the side of the iPod)
