How do I allow "Guest" account to access my music?

I can't believe I am having such a difficult time with this.
I'd like all the accounts I have set up to be able to access my music library. And if I add music I'd like each account to access the new music without having to update each library. I've read other posts and I can't quite grasp how I share the library.
If I can't share it, how do I move the library from my folder to the guest folder?

It's even worse!
I tried putting the music folder into the shared folder.
I still couldn't access them from the guest account. And worse, I can't get them back into my original account. They are not erased (thank god!), I can see them in a folder, just can't pull them up on itunes.
Should I do the "consolidate music"? I'm leary of making a whole copy as I don't have enough hard drive space.
Now I am going to rant....This should not be that difficult!!!

  • How do i allow guest users to access programs such as word or excel

I have Office installed on my MacBook Pro but I need to let somebody else use it for a training class, i want to let them to log in as a guest but still have access to Office, when you log in as a guest you don't really have any programs available, help would be appreciated!

I would have thought that all applications which are properly installed in the Applications folder would be available to all users, including Guest.  That's the case on my machine.  Is your MS Office installed in your **user** application folder (in your home folder, which limits applications to that user) or is it at the top level of your folder hierarchy (which is where you should be installing applications which you want to be available to all users)?

Ditto. Guest accounts shouldn't have a password. No way to enter one in System Prefs...

how do I set up PSE 6 to allow two account users on one computer to access pSE6 on their own accounts?

They can't share a catalog stored on the main hard drive, if that's what you want to do, but to just use the program separately, log in to the other user account, open PSE, and if PSE wants to register itself again, let it.

  • [solved] allowing guest user full access to a subfloder on my account

Ok, let's say I have a directory in location /home/myacc/shared-files/
    I do chmod 777 on that dir, and make a link on a guest account ( ln -s /home/myacc/shared-files/ /home/guest/share )
When I try to access /home/guest/share from the guest account, I get "Permission denied" message, obviously because /home/myacc is protected...
How can I let a guest to see the shared-files subdirectory, but still without changing my home directory permissions?

Using the chmod 711 method, others are prevented from ls'ing the directory but if they guess the names of files they can still check if they exist, correct?
Let someone else give an opinion about this before you do it, but  you should also be able to use "mount --bind /dir/to/share /where/to/share/it". I've used this on my LAN to put repos in my home dir on an apache server without opening  up permissions along the path to my repos.
In your case, I think you could do this:
    mount --bind /home/myacc/shared-files /home/guestacc/shared-files
From what I've read about it, the point of "mount --bind" is to get around the limitations of "ln -s" and path permissions.
    *edit*
You'll need to create the /home/guestacc/shared-files directory first.

  • How to prevent guest account from accessing my admin account files/documents?

I have an iMac 21" running OS 10.6.8.    I have a guest account set up in addition to my own administrators account.  When I log on as a guest, I am able to access all of the file documents on my computer, including the ones created on my administator's account.  These are files I do not want a guest to be able to access.  My question is how to change the settings so these do not show up when logged in to the guest account.  I have tried changing Finder Preferences in the guest account - this can be easily changed back by the guest user, and the settings also revert back after I log out.  In the admin account I checked System Preferences settings - the only thing on is printer and bluetooth sharing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's a way to reset the Home folder permissions and ACLs posed by Linc Davis that may do the job.

Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Here's another way to do the same thing but this time when booted into the Recovery volume:
You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • How do I stop  Guest Account from appearing on the login screen?

All of a sudden - like since I upgraded to iCloud - my login screen displays "Guest User". I have Guest disabled in Accounts. The only account I have active is mine. I don't want Guest to appear on the login screen. How do i stop it from doing so?

Even when the Guest Account / Access is disabled, the login option / and lock screen, still have a guest login.
This is because in Preferences/ Security & Privacy/General the bottom item is turned on.
Turn on: Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked

  • How do I allow another user to access my pictures, etc?

    Hi
still getting used to the Mac feel, after switching over from Windows, and I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.
    I have the following issue:
Under my account, I have all our family photos and documents. I have also set up a user account for my wife. When she logs on, she can't access our photos, etc., because she has no read/write rights. (Which is logic, since they are my "private" folders.
I have then logged on myself, used the "info" button on the respective folders in order to give her user the rights to access my folders, but I can't seem to "allow everyone" to access the folder(s). What are the settings I need to use?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have tried to recreate this myself, and your right even after changing ownerships and movie the iPhoto library to the public folder ( Harddrive/Users/Sharing) the second account is still not allowed to access the library. This is strange behaviour because moving the iTunes Music Library to Sharing does allow all users to access the library.
All I can suggest is that you deselect the option in iPhoto preferences (Advanced) to "copy files to iPhoto library" then store your photos in a folder that resides in the Harddrive/Users/Sharing folder - then your wife can use the import command to add them to her copy of iPhoto (she should also deselect the copy to library option)

  • How do I configure Guest network to access ethernet wired printer?

I have a wired/wireless network with a new dual band AEBS. The AEBS is connected to a Cisco router, which in turn sends it's connections to various wall-plates in our home. One HP 4110 printer is wired via it's ethernet port, one Mac Mini (OS 10.6.2) is hard wired also. The dual band AEBS 5 GHz network is used for our newer laptops, and the 2.4 GHz network is used for a G3 Firewire PowerBook (now don't make fun... it was the best there was at one time) running OS 10.4.11.
The PowerBook cannot access the printer that is hard wired via ethernet cable to the network. How do I get the PowerBook on the "Guest" network to access the printer?
I tried searching these discussions, but can't find an answer to my specific issue. Any help is appreciated.

Since you have a simultaneous dual-band AEBS, why not connect your PowerBook G3 to the non-Guest 2.4 GHz network created?
Can I take an AEBS that is a couple of years older (I have a couple of the flying saucers around here somewhere), wire that to an available ethernet port on the LAN, and then connect the older PowerBook G3 to that older AEBS wirelessly?
    Sure
If so, will that arrangement slow down the entire system?
    No
If that won't work, and I connect the PowerBook G3 directly to an ethernet port, will that slow down the other wireless computers?
Yes you can connect your PowerBook G3 via Ethernet. That would have no effect on the wireless computers.

  • How to setup the guest network just access internet only (not touch in internal server)

I had setup the AirPort Extreme in basic and guest network, but observed the guest can access to our server currently, for the security issue, we can setup the guest network to access internet only? pleae advice and thanks

By default, a properly configured Guest network on the AirPort Extreme only allows network clients to access the Internet. No access to the "main" network's resources should be available.
This is assuming that the AirPort Extreme is the only or "main" router in your current network configuration.

  • Does any one know how to remove the guest account from the start up screen

ihave had this problem for a while now and still can't make it go away i have be in system prefreces and accounts but i still can't make it out

To expand a bit on that answer, Find My Mac allows you to locate, lock or erase your MBP remotely if it gets lost or stolen.  But that is only possible if the person who finds it is able to log in somehow and get on a network.  Thus the guest account being turned on as long as Find My Mac is enabled in System Preferences -> iCloud.  Note that the guest account does not make your computer any more insecure, but if it really bothers you, you'll have to turn off Find My Mac.  And note that if your computer is stolen while that setting is off, there's nothing you can do about it other than call the police.

  • How to create a guest account

I see that many people mention online about their guest account in 10.4 Tiger. I don't see that option. Is it hidden or does the guest account have a stage name?

I believe it's a feature of Leopard where it resets the account settings when the user logs out and the next guest user then sees a pristine account.*
On Tiger a guest account is just a standard account named "Guest" with no password and perhaps a bunch of restrictions set with Parental Controls. However, it isn't reset when somebody logs out (unless you write a script to do it) so it isn't the same as Leopard's.
    * That's the idea, but read http://thelameleopard.wordpress.com/2007/11/07/taking-a-closer-look-at-leopards- guest-account/
