How do I assign a static IP address?

I bought mSecure from mSeven Software for my iPhone. Had no problem assigning a static IP address to my old PC laptop, but now I've happily switched to Macbook Pro and I can't figure out how to get it done. Need this static IP address to sync my iPhone data to the Macbook Pro. Found something that said I needed to go to "server admin" but I can't figure that out either. I do see how to find my IP address (in system preferences), but I'm not sure how to assign a static address. I'm not the most computer literate person in the world, but I'm fairly teachable - can somebody walk me through this step by step (including what buttons to push to get where you guide me)? Much obliged.

Oh great, forum notifications have grown funky again.
As I understand your question, each client (whether it's a router or not) can be configured to receive its IP address via DHCP, or not. In the latter case you specify its IP address manually in the client. I can't think of a TCP/IP client that does not have this ability.
There is no way to use AirPort Utility to assign specified IP addresses to clients, though you can "reserve" a block of addresses that it will not assign via DHCP.
You can assign an IP address to a client using a directed IP packet, using Terminal (must be run as superuser):
arp -s <desired IP address> <client MAC address>
... but this does not create any entries in the AirPort's MAC address table. Is that what you want to do?

  • How to Assign a Static IP address to VM created from VM template

    Hello All,
I'm New to SCVMM, I have installed my SCVMM 2012 R2 in Lab environment and added 02 Hyper Servers on the same (One server is in domain & another one is in Perimeter Network). Once I added the Hyper-V's two Virtual

  • How to Configure a Blackfin Static IP Address

I've read that the Blackfin lwip stack wants a DHCP server to assign it an IPaddress. I've proven that this works for me using a BF537 EZ-Kit.
Now I'd like to configure an application with a static IP address so I can use a crossover cable between a computer and the EZKIT.
I've seen a method to do this in the LWIP User Guide but this seems to apply only to projects built using Visual DSP.  Is there a method to set a static IP address from LabVIEW Embedded?  The LV "build specifications" properties dialog seems to indicate as such but it doesn't seem to work when I try it. If I disable DHCP my application doesn't work at all.

    Try these steps:
    1) Disconnect your computer from your network.
    2) Connect the crossover cable between your computer and the Blackfin EZ-Kit.
    3) Assign a static IP address to your computer. If you don't know how to do this, follow the directions at the following Microsoft Website:
    https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sag_tcpip_pro_manual...
If you don't know what numbers to fill in while following the directions, use the following settings for your computer.
    IP Address: 10.0.0.1
    Net Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 10.0.0.254
    4) Start LabVIEW and open your project.
    5) Configure LWIP to a static IP address. To do this, open the Build Spec dialog in LabVIEW and click on the TCP/IP tab. Enable lwIP and uncheck Use DHCP.  Fill in a IP address.
If your computer is setup with the above settings, the following Build Spec Options can be used for LWIP:
    IP Address: 10.0.0.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 10.0.0.254

  • Not Able To Assign A Static IP Address To Windows 2008 64 bit Server

    Hello Experts,
I've been trying to assign a static IP address to Windows 2008 R2 Server Virtual Box image. As soon as I assign static IP address to the image, either it hangs or says "Unidentified network".
I'm 100% sure that I'm using correct IP address, Gateway, Subnet mask and DNS Server details. If I use same settings on other linux virtual box, it is able get that static ip address. The issue is only with Windows 2008 image.
Here few more inputs that may help:
    - Windows 2008 image has "Bridge" adapter.
    - Host system is connected to corporate network via wired connection and NOT on VPN.
    - If I use "Obtain IP address automatically" setting, then it is able to get a dynamic IP address and internet is working fine.
    Questions:
    1. Has anyone seen this issue before ?
    2. Do I need to do any additional configuration on Windows 2008 server ?
    Thanks,
    GK

    Hi,
Method 1: Uninstall and reinstall network drivers.
Method 2: If you have any anti-virus software, disable them.
You can also try set a static IP via neetsh commend.

  • How do I lock a static IP address?

I've set up a network 'location' in the networking pane of my preferences for a static IP for port forwarding. This works fine & I can connect to the internet to the internet without a problem.
The problem is something is changing the address occasionally. It doesn't happen all the time. When I open the network panel to check why Vuze is having a NAT issue something has unlocked the networking preferences & changed the IP assigned in my 'location' for the static IP address. I haven't noticed if it happens when I restart the machine or when the Airport Extreme has to be restarted for some reason. This has been happening for about a year. It's not impossible to deal with, just annoying to have to keep changing back the settings.
    TIA,
    Jeff

Have you been assigned a static IP address by your ISP explicitly?
Your public IP address will change, if you have DSL it will change often while some Cable providers will allow you to keep the same address as long as you have the same device plugged in. Your public IP is coming from a DHCP server on the ISP side.
Anyway, that said you will be constantly having to update your IP and port address on any server internally or application that requires knowledge of your public IP like FTP server in passive mode.
I also noticed a mention of MTU size, I would not change that unless you know exactly what you are trying to accomplish and the connection supports that number. From the little I gathered I will guess you are on DSL, you may want to check your MTU and what it is currently set to. I will guess that it is at 1496 and if it is raising that value will negatively impact your connection, you may not be able to connect at all; maybe!

  • How do I assign a fixed IP address on the network?

I have a Brother HL-2070N Laser Network printer connected to my Airport Network via an ethernet connection to a switch which is connected to the Airport Extreme Base Station. The Airport is set up as a DHCP server.
I am having a problem with the printer not waking from sleep when I issue a print command. According to Brother tech support, they suggest I change the printer set-up to an IP printer but to do that I will need a static IP address on the network. They have provided the instructions on how to assign the address to the printer but how do I set up the Airport to assign the same IP address to the printer if it has to be restarted, etc?
    Thanks,
    David

You need to assign the printer an IP address ending in 201 or higher. These are addresses outside of the range used by the DHCP server in the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

  • How do I assign a static IP for CUCM7 in VMware?

    Hello all,
I've successfully loaded CUCM7 in VMware server, and I can get to the CUCM7 GUI just fine. But it's assigned an ip address by dhcp, ie: 192.168.0.*** from my router.  I want to assign the CUCM server a static IP of 172.30.100.14, but it doesn't work. I've tried the following:
    1. going into the CUCM7 OS admin gui, removing dhcp and filling in the static ip. Then save.  Of course, I then modify my real ethernet port to same subnet. but then when I restart the vmware, it won't boot up the CUCM7.  I need to change my real ethernet port back to dhcp to get the vmware to load CUCM7 again?
    2. at the CUCM7 command promt I've tried to assign eth0 the static ip. The commands won't successfully take. It says something about "missing 3 other commands"?  Removing dhcp via the command line doesn't work either?
Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

But that's exactly what occurred!  PC is connected to my home linksys router and was assigned address 192.168.0.*.
    - I installed VMware Server 2
    - I installed CUCM7 Virtual machine with the following: 1024ram, 72g hd, RedHat 5 32bit OS, CD/DVD, eth bridged.
    - CUCM7 booted up in the VM window to the login prompt.
    - I logged in and then got to the admin prompt.
    - did "show network ip eth0" to see what ip address was assigned to the CUCM7 VM server. It was 192.168.0.150.
    - went to IE8, new tab, https://192.168.0.150/ccmadmin,  and the CUCM7 GUI loaded successfully.
The problem is, I didn't want 192.168.0.*** as an IP address for my PC or CUCM server. I want to move the PC to work with my cisco lab, which my voice gateway router is already configured for 172.30.100.***.     I figured that anytime I could change the CUCM7 VM server to a 172.30.100.* address and, naturally, change my PC NIC to a static IP address too?   But when I change ip addresses (PC NIC, or in the CUCM VM), the VM wouldn't load!  It would just start running all the scripts like normal, and then freeze. Or sometimes it just wouldn't open the VM consol window.  Maybe an issue with VMware? I don't know.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • SG500 - DHCP server does not assign predefined static IP addresses to hosts

    hi guys
I upgraded my SG500 switch firmware to 1.3.0.59, since there is a new functionality DHCP server v.4
well I must say I came accross the issue I cannot solve. DHCP server assign dynamic address - no hassles.
troubles start with static IP hosts.
I defined a couple of hosts with static address within the correct subnet. I tried with hardware address and client identifiers. no luck. my switch does not assign the IP address I assigned to the suitable mac address. to define it I use both CLI & Web.
no of them works. any idea ?
below the cut from my config:
    ip dhcp pool host HP-Ellite
    address 10.10.11.7 255.255.255.0 client-identifier 01:d8:d3:85:cf:09:72
    client-name HP-Ellite
    default-router 10.10.11.1
    exit
    ip dhcp pool host VAIO-Z
    address 10.10.14.108 255.255.255.0 hardware-address 54:53:ed:1c:a1:46
    default-router 10.10.14.1
    exit

Tom, thnkas for a quick reply...
look, usually it is pretty easy to manage an issue with so precise instructions. but this particular time it is not.
as I understood the "dhcp option 61" is nothing more than "00" which go before pure hardware address.
so, coming back to my example from the first post
with this configuration, my switch assigns 169.254.110.130 255.255.0.0 address
    ip dhcp pool host HP-Ellite
    address 10.10.11.112 255.255.255.0 client-identifier 01:d8:d3:85:cf:09:72
    client-name HP-Ellite
    default-router 10.10.11.1
    exit
with that configuration, my switch assigns 10.10.11.11 255.255.255.0 address
    ip dhcp pool host HP-Ellite
    address 10.10.11.112 255.255.255.0 client-identifier 00:d8:d3:85:cf:09:72
    client-name HP-Ellite
    default-router 10.10.11.1
    exit
otherwords "00" does not work as explained (unless I misunderstood the meaing of dhcp option 61). my switch assigns first available dynamic IP address. atlhough the arp table is cleared, dynamic address table is cleared as well. swtich is rebooted, host is rebooted
once I change hardware address prefix to "01", my host asign itself 169.xxx.xxx.xxx adress.

  • How do I assign a new IP address to second machine on network?

    2Wire 2701HG-D
Thanks. This is a gateway...a combination modem and router on the same chassis. With the AirPort Extreme on the network, you have 2 routers in series.
That means that the AirPort Extreme must be configured as a "bridge" to work correctly on the network.
Check your settings for the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to save any changes and let the AirPort Extreme restart
Power cycle the entire network, power everything down modems, routers, computers, iPhones, etc., order is not important.
    Wait 10-15 minutes
Power up the 2Wire first and let it run 4-5 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Power up all other devices the same way
I'm not familiar with the MacBook Air, but you would want it to connect Automatically using DHCP, not manually.
    What happens?

  • HP Deskjet 3050 J610a - static IP address

How can I assign a static IP address to the above printer? There is no option on the printer control panel to do this as far as I can see. It seems the only possibility is to allow the printer to grab whatever IP address it believes is appropriate - usually a DHCP one. In my case this is inappropriate since I want to assign a specific fixed IP address.

Well after two automated responses telling me what I already knew and failing to answer any of the questions I was starting to lose my patience.
I asked that they change their web site which clearly states that the Deskjet 3050 is supported, apparently only the 3050e is supported. So say 3050e then not 3050!!!
This is the response I eventually received:
Thank you for getting back to us.
I understand from your email that you have HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer - J610a you are not able to find the Printer code to set your HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer - J610a on eprint or enable Web Services. I see that the printer is listed as an ePrint and AirPrint enabled device yet none of the support articles refer to the Deskjet series.
Marc, I am glad to assist you with your issue and concern. I request you to please let us know the website name or provide us the website link where in it states that HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer - J610a is an ePrint and AirPrint enabled device so that we can correct this immediately and avoid any further confusion.
I appericiate your time so far to interact with us and give us an opportunity to assist you.
This was the link that HP themselves state to check to see if it supported CLICK HERE

  • How to assign static ip address to the server having solaris 10. i.e. nge0

    hi,
how to assign static ip address to the server having solaris 10. i.e. nge0 i.e. 192.168.3.125 ipshold be persistantt across reboots. what steps do i need to follow to put all information including gateway, netmask etc..Also i want to integrate one init script ..can i integrate it using /etc/init.d/<service name> like linux. and do chkconfig on it?i am not getting complex procedure of SPF and FMRI etc..can u help me?

Create a file in your /etc directory called hostname.nge0. Add the hostname of your system to this file. In your /etc/hosts file, assign the static IP address you want to the same hostname. You can then disable and enable the network-physical service to configure the network interface:
    svcadm disable network-physical
    svcadm enable network-physical

  • How to Assign Static IP address to iPad?

I have been having a problem with the wifi connection on my iPad. After much research online, I have narrowed it down to an ip address lease renewal bug. The iPad drops connection when the ip address lease expires. The suggested fix is to assign a static ip address for the iPad based on its MAC address.
    How can I do this?

I can't answer directly, but the following may help (for HH3B)
    Login to HomeHub
    Goto http://192.168.1.254/html/settings/a_ip_address.html
Set the lease time to 21 days
    Apply
    Goto http://192.168.1.254/html/settings/a_devices.html
    Click on your iPad
Choose 'always use this IP address'
    Apply

  • How do you increase your IP Address pool for static IP addresses?

I have an address pool from 192.168.200.1 to 192.168.200.250, the entire pool is being used by DCHP. How do I increase my address pool, so that I can assign static IP addresses for printers etc?
    Say: 192.168.200.251
But not allow DCHP to use it?
I will assign the static IP address using DNS.
    I hope that makes sense?
    Thanks

Please re-read responses in your earlier thread for some related background on this question.
If your DHCP address pool is from .1 to .250 inclusive, then you have four addresses left for static hosts in the typical /24 subnet.  You have .251. .252, .253 and .254 available.  One of those addresses will probably be your gateway router, and one will be your server host.
You don't need to do anything to the DHCP pool to use those four addresses, because the static addresses are inherently outside of the DHCP pool.
DHCP address pools are not the same thing as the IP subnet address block, and DHCP-assigned addresses do not control what (other) IP hosts and addresses that a DHCP-addressed host can connect to.
DHCP servers do provide local and usually somewhat transient clients access to a pool of shared IP addresses, and they provide clients with information on the local network including the gateway router address, the subnet mask, and the DNS server address(s).
And in general, do you really have 200+ dynamic-addressed hosts in your network?   If you do have 200-some transient hosts, then you're headed for either a bigger netblock (eg: a /22 configuration), or you're headed toward configuring multiple submets and routing among the various subnets.
The /24 configuration is another and shorter nomenclature for the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 that's common.

  • Can I assign Airport Express to static IP Address?

Current setup - Airport Extreme attached to cable modem with 2 hard drives, Airport Express as print server in separate room with USB printer attached (just changed from Linksys with sometimes working NetGear print server). Clients accessing the network: 2 Windows XP, 1 Windows 7, iPads, iPhones, iPods, Apple TV, and sometimes a Mac Book.
The issue is that we don't keep the printing system on at all times (light switch with Express and printer plugged in); We dont't do much printing, and I print to pdf most of the time. As a result, the Express IP address changes every time it's turned on, requiring me to change the port settings on the printer properties before anyone can print. Is there a way to assign a static IP address to the Express so that I don't become tech support every time someone else in the house needs to print something?

Is there a way to assign a static IP address to the Express so that I don't become tech support every time someone else in the house needs to print something?
Yes. The first order of business is to find the AirPort ID for the AirPort Express. You do this by opening AirPort Utility and clicking once on the Express. In the area to the right, jot down the AirPort ID.
Still in AirPort Utility, now click on the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Click the DHCP tab below the Advanced icon
Look for the DHCP Reservations area and click on the + (plus) button at the bottom
Enter a description, for example AirPort Express
Click the MAC Address button and click Continue
Enter the AirPort ID in the MAC Address box
Assign the IP address you want the Express to use, for example 10.0.1.20
Click Done, then click Apply and the AirPort Extreme will restart
It would be a good idea to power cycle the entire network as follows:
Power everything down...all devices, order is not important
Power up the modem first, then AirPort Extreme, then Express, then devices
