How do I attach an electric drum kit to an iPad 2 to use garage band?

Hi guys,
I have recently discovered garge band on iPad 2 and really do think there's is heaps of potential with it! However I have come stuck with a few things... I want to use my Yamaha DTXplorer as a drum kit and have heard that this is possible with the right tools, problem is this is all new to me and I haven't got a clue how to do it...
My question is, is it possible to do this with the iPad 2 and with my Yamaha DTXplorer, and if so what do I need / how do I do it? Also what are the costs involved with doing this?
Thanks guys! :)

Here's what I did. Alternative products and apps may be available but this worked for me
Purchaces:
iRig Midi (physical device)
MidiBridge (app)
Configuration:
Connect the midi out of the Yamaha DTXplorer to the midi in of the iRig Midi
Connect the iRig Midi to your iPad
Now, here's the bit that made me think it was worth writing this post. The DTXplorer doesn't support custom midi mapping and it uses different midi notes than those used by GarageBand for iPad. To get around this you need to remap the incomming midi on the iPad using an app such as MidiBridge.
In MidiBridge, connect the iRig input to the MidiBridge output
Select the config icon on the iRig input and apply the Note Mapper. Here is what you need to remap to get things working
Bass Drum: A0 (33) -> C1 (36)
Low Tom: G1 (43) -> F1 (41)
Mid Tom: B1 (47) -> A1 (45)
Snare Drum: G0 (31) -> D1 (38)
The rest are mapped properly by default
In MidiBridge, you might want to save the configuration
Open up GarageBand and drum away!

GarageBand on your Mac or on an iPad?
If you are asking abot GB on a Mac you do the following:
Create a new GarageBand project with a Guitar track
Insert the CD and drag the audio file of the Lesson track or backing track to an empty region below the tracks in the timeline of the GarageBand window.
Plug in a set of head phones and put them on to listen to your backing track.
Plug in your guitar and select the guitar track.
Click on the measure where you want to start your recording and select the guitar track.
Press "record" and start to play.

  • How can I do mirroring of a screen from new iPad to hdtv using apple tv and still work on something else in my ipad

How can I do mirroring of a screen from new iPad to hdtv using apple tv and still work on something else in my ipad

You don't. Mirroring is duplicating your ipad screen on another projector - so you can't have another app going on your iPad without it also showing up on the projected image. Some apps are designed so that you see a different image in the iPad than the mirrored out display, but even then you're within the app itself.

Simple. GarageBand question, GarageBand forum where all those users are jacked into their Macs and can tell you how. Also look to the right of your post to the column, "More Like This."---------------------------------------------->

  • How do i use Garage Band Instruments in Mainstage (2.1.3)

    hi,
everywhere in the manuals it says that i can use Garage Band instruments in Mainstage.
But in my Patch Library i can only see:
    01 Pre-Mapped
    02 Software Instruments
    03 Electric Guitar
    04 Vocal
    Audio Channel Strips
    Instrument Channel Strips
In Logic it also shows "Garage Band Instruments", but i can't find that within Maintage..
    Any Idea???
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi guys,
as an added task to the current importing of Garageband Instruments into MainStage; is it possible to import the Sound Effects sound that has been assigned samples from Garageband.
I'll explain what I would like to do.. I would like to use, in MainStage, the Sampled clips I made in Garageband that have been saved as an Instrument under Sound Effects.
    Hope it makes sense.
At the moment I can import it and get it on the right instrument but its just making a basic noise.
    Cheers if you can help.

  • I'm Just wondering how to make drum beats in garage band using the sounds it comes with? Also how can i use garage band like a drum machine which i can program an entire song part by part????

I'm new to using Garageband and loops with garage band. I just wanted to see if there was a way for me to use the drum sounds provided in garageband to create my own original drum tracks and work with it like a drum machine that i can program an entire song into... any info or tutorials would be a great help.. Thanks!!!

Ah ok, I have a better idea of what you want to do now.
Unfortunately there isn't anything inside GB that can come anywhere close to Acoustica Beatcraft, but there are two tools inside Garageband that can help you do something similar.
First are the built-in keyboards, which will enable you to trigger drum samples with your computer keyboard or mouse.  Go to Window -> Keyboard or Window -> Musical Typing.  Click with your mouse on the Keyboard or press keys on your computer keyboard with Musical Typing, and you will trigger different drum samples for whatever kit you've chosen for that software track.
Next is the Track Editor: in Piano Roll mode, you can create and see midi notes somewhat similar to the view in this screenshot from AB.  On the left side of the Editor, you will see a sideways piano keyboard.  When you assign a drum kit to a software track, each of the piano keys corresponds to a different instrument: hi hat, snare, bass drum, etc---you'll have to play them using the on-screen keyboard or musical typing to see what they correspond to.   In order to add a MIDI note you hold the CMD button and click with the mouse.
So, if you wanted to add a closed hi-hat hit, you would CMD-click on the Track Editor row corresponding to the closed hi-hat piano key, and then you can drag the MIDI note left & right to change the beat it plays on, or resize the note, which will change its duration.
Or, as you've already observed, you can use Musical Typing to play out a pattern on your computer keyboard while recording, and you will see the midi notes appear in real time in the Track Editor.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions.

  • I want to make a DVD on how to use Garage band and sell them. Do I need apple's permission to do this?

If I want to write a book on how to make great music in Garage Band and sell the book do I need permisison. I also thought about making video tutorials on the same subject. Again do I need permission to do this?

This is a user forum, and certainly not a legal forum.
Legal systems and requirements vary by geography.
If you have a legal- or trademark-related question, you'll want to check directly with your own lawyer, and potentially with the folks at Apple Legal.

  • How do i Attach a document to an email from iPad

How do I upload or attach a Word doc to an email, job posting etc ?

You cannot use a browser like Safari on your iPad to upload anything other than photos to a few locations. If you are planning to send a Word doc to a prospective employer you will have to send it attached to an email.
Presently there is no Microsoft Word application in the App Store. So you need a word processing app that opens and edits Word file. I use Apple Pages for this. When I open a Word doc in Pages it is converted to the Pages format. But when I email that doc I can choose to email the file as a Word doc.

  • How do I plug an electric guitar into my imace to use garage band

I'm a beginner. What do I need to buy and or download to plug my electric guitar into the imac?

Most online reviews give just about any apogee product a good name. Especially the jam and duet lines. Before you buy product make sure you evaluate exactly what you will need out of it. Will you always be recording just guitar tracks, or eventually want to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously? If you stick to purely 2-track most people say apogee sound is one of the best.
I personally own a different interface (FTU by Maudio) but mostly because I wanted up to 4 tracks at same time for live and studio recordings. It's an ok product but probably falls short of the apogee quality. Think about exactly what you want from your setup and price range. It's all a delicate balance of compromise from there...

  • Does anyone know how to separate a movie track from an audio track on the new Mavericks Garage band. It used to be very easy on the iLife 11 version. If anyone could respond ASAP I'd be grateful. I need to make an audio file from a video.

I urgently need to make some audio tracks from videos using the new 2013 GarageBand. In iLife11 Garageband, this was very easy. However, I cannot see how to do it in the new one. The alternative might be to revert to the iLife11 version, so does anyone know how to do this. It's extremely urgent since I need to produce these for a court custody hearing which will take place at 0800 GMT UK time on 31st October 2013. Please help.
    Thank you.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It is not quite clear from your question, if you are asking about GarageBand on your MacBook Pro or GarageBand on an IOS device (iPad, iPhone)? For you posted in the GarageBand for IOS forum, but your "Profile" signature says MacBook Pro?
If you want to know about GarageBand on your Mac, start from the GarageBand Support page: http://www.apple.com/support/garageband/
Here are some easy to follow Video Tutorials:Video Tutorials
Most help is accessible from the "Help" menu in the GarageBand main menu bar: Click the "browse Help" button and look at the part "Create a Song Arrangement", i.e. the section "Arrange Regions in the Timeline": Split and join regions:
