How do I authorize purchased songs with an obsolete Apple ID
Here's my problem...
I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3 from 10.3.9 reluctantly using the erase and install option. I did not deauthorize my computer prior to doing this.
I have a lot of purchased songs from iTunes that were purchased using an old Apple ID (I changed my ISP after I purchased these songs...which changed my email address...which, in turn, required me to change my Apple ID). So, now when I try to play one of these songs, iTunes asks for authorization with the old Apple ID. I put in the password for the old Apple ID and it tells me that Apple ID does not exist. I try my current Apple ID and password and it tells me it is the wrong Apple ID. ...Any Thoughts?

I am having a little problem right now. My fiance and I both have our own accounts; he got one made by his brother and used it sometimes to buy apps and eventually he started using mines to make purchases because for a while we forgot his Apple ID log in info. My questions right now is can I authorize the one computer that we share right now under two different Apple Ids so that he can get both profiles' contents loaded onto my computer and sync them to his ipod? Can I reach itunes support and have them merge our accounts or enable me to have 2 accounts authorized on my macbook that we share or can I find a wifi connection and be able to download all of his content from his Apple ID account from itunes purchased on the ipod touch? Please help me out I would hate to have to buy all of the stuff on his Apple ID account all over again I spent so much money on his account in the past and I don't want him to be upset either:(
OMG I am so ecstatic and happy right now like literally jumping and crying with joy! Lol I fixed the problem and authorized both accounts onto my one macbook (that my fiance share) by clicking on one of my fiance's apps and it instructed me to authorize the apps for updates and what not on this computer and I just chanced it and logged into his account and both of all of our apps are on our ipod touch now:D I think we can even get his music back too. I looked at his authorized computer info and it says that he has one computer authorized with his account (the one we are now using) so it worked. Share with others who are in similar situations and warn them to log into their Apple ID Itunes accounts and download past purchased APPS on all the accounts they have before authorizing one of their itunes accounts on a new or different computer and once you have one authorized you'll already have the apps from your other accounts and you can authorize all the other accounts (the underground way) by clicking on the apps associated with each account and authorizing by signing in for authorization(authorizing one app will do them all). The Menu > Store > Authorize This Computer way didn't work for me just the *double click on app associated with the other account not authorized on my computer* and authorizing it that way worked for me. The way that I got all of my fiances apps on our computer first was by just logging in and looking at Purchased on itunes store and clicking download all for all apps. Then after I did his I did all apps on mines and then music and authorized my computer under my itunes account because downloading Purchased music required it and then finally going back and double clicking the apps from the other account and authorizing it that way it is much more simpler that the Menu>Store> Authorize this Computer.
After I tried that double clicking on apps and authorization by signing in I expected it not to work because the Menu>Store>Authorize way didn't work for me it kept saying "this computer is already authorized under a different Apple ID" and try again in 90 days. The method and steps I provided should allow you to beat around that obstacle and get your apps from all associated accounts.

How can I authorize itunes songs purchased with ID that no longer exists?
I bought an Macbook Pro and am transferring all the songs I bought from
my old laptop to the Macbook. Some of the songs were purchased from
itunes using two different apple IDs that don't exist anymore. I tried to
authorize the Macbook to play these songs using the old ID and password but it
doesn't work (I'm pretty certain I have the correct passwords but it is possible they are wrong). Please don't tell me I can't listen to these songs

JosephI have exactly the same problem! When I try to play a song purchased under an old Apple ID (before I moved to Japan), I get: "This computer is not authorized to play "(song title)". Would you like to authorize it? To play this song you must authorize this computer to play songs purchased using the account "(my OLD Apple ID)". You may authorize up to 5 computers for each account."
I tried to authorize the song using my OLD Apple ID and password, but it didn't work because that Apple ID no longer exists. The weird thing is that after trying to authorize a song with my NEW Apple ID, the computer tells me I have successfully authorized it but then the song won't play and I get the same Authorize Computer dialogue box popping up again when I click the play button or double-click the song title.

After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account (10 years) I don't have anymore and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again? I tried to sign in to hotmail again and it says i don't have an account, but when I try to create a new one with the same name, it says one already exists.
When I try to recover the password from Apple, it of course wants to send an email to the account I can't get into, and when I try to do the security questions, it says my DOB is incorrect. Whether you can redownload music depends upon what country that you in. If you are using your computer's iTunes then does music show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (on your phone you might be able to redownload media via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app) ? If music shows there, but not that album, then check to see if it's hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If you aren't in a country when you can redownload music and it's still on your phone then you should be able to copy it over from the phone via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. -
I am very confused!! When I first used iTunes, I did not own any Apple products. When I purchased my MacBook Pro and a Mobile Me subscription a few years ago, my email address @me.com became my new Apple ID. I subsequently purchased an iPhone 3 and eventually an iPhone 4. Apparently over this time, I have used both Apple IDs at various times. Sometimes when I upgrade apps, the old ID will already be filled in and other times the new one will be instead. I always use whichever one is there with the appropriate password. This was probably a mistake. I just realized that my MBPro is authorized under the original Apple ID and not the current one. I tried to authorize it under the current Apple ID, but couldn't, so I was going to deauthorize it from the old one, but got a message about losing any purchases made with the original Apple ID. I don't want that to happen. Synching my iPhone in iTunes with my computer has been much more confusing since I got my newer iPhone. However, I don't remember anything about the process I went through to associate it with my iTunes account. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.
Log into the store using the old Apple ID to re-download them, however, you can not switch them into your current Apple ID except by re-purchasing. You can contact Apple support and see if they are able to help you.

Purchased song with explicit content while thought it was a clean version
My son purchased several songs last night and is aware that he cannot purchase songs with explicit language ..... he purchased a song that did not have an "Explicit" tag on it but does contain the "F" word which he does not want to hear or do we want to have in his music collection.
Is there a way to "delete"/refund or such this type of sale from the ITune store? How can you be sure that language such as the "F" word and others don't get into the songs that are listed if they are not flagged as containing such words?

iTunes is not designed to do that. However, this user tip from tt2 may help you recover your music from your iPod, although it's not a simple process: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Ignore any references in the tip to iOS devices, the Classic does not use iOS. The tip has a list of software, including the TouchCopy referred to by tbirdvet that may assist you in recovering your music. -
