How do I auto-close download window

I googled the subject and saw some old discussion thread in which people complained about the same thing and the "solution" was to get some add-on for it. Surely such a basic capability is now built into Safari, right? I mean, common, who wants to keep closing that download window every time?? That's been in Firefox since 1.0 - even Netscape browser before then had that feature.
I just tried to move to Safari because it does have one feature (just as basic) that Firefox was lacking: ability to specify a web page for new tabs (and of course, there's an add-on in Firefox for that - which is just as ******** - and those don't even work in my current 4.0b6 release

Thanks for pointing me to SafariStand - I take it that since you, too, are pointing me to a plugin, that Safari doesn't have this built-in No biggie, I guess - but disappointing nonetheless.
I knew about the tab url setting - as I said, that was the reason i went to Safari from firefox in the first place.
Safari's HTML rendering doesn't seem to be as good (I won't say as "standard-compliant" because I don't know that) as Firefox: in our company we use a a Wiki (TikiWiki) that has an HTML-based WYSIWYG page editor...but Safari doesn't like it or it doesn't like Safari - editing with it is not doable
Other than these little inconveniences, I like Safari: its suport of touchpad gestures seems to be smoother (e.g. two-finger scrolling is much more ballistic than in firefox). So I will probably stick with it for now and startup firefox when I come across problematic pages.

How can I hide the downloads window?

Hi,
When I download a file the downloads window opens on top of the page I'm viewing. I have to then close it or move it to carry on working on that page. I then go to save another file off the page and the downloads window opens up over the page again. This is flippin' annoying when you're researching and downloading a number of documents off hte same page.
How can I stop the downloads window opening on top when I download files?

There is a way, but it may not be supported for ever... If you want the old download manager back, go to about:config, click the I'll be careful, I promise! button. Then search for "download", and set the browser.download.useToolkitUI preference to true (double-click it).

How to auto close popup window of UWL?

Hi everyone! I have developed a web dynpro abap application that is being launched by the UWL in a new window. How do I close the window after the web dynpro application is done processing? I cannot use exit-plugs as these don't work in the portal. If I use the portal navigation classes(absolute and relative) these ask for a target address but what I want is to close the window. Has anyone done this before? Thanks! Generous points will be awarded!

If you are ready to open your webdynpro application inside the UWL itself (instead of opening as a pop up) you can try the following. In such a case you can set a re-direction page which points out to the URL of your UWL on the required action (say "Approve" or "Reject"). Hence when you perform the required action your UWL screen will be re-displayed once again.
If you want only pop up from UWL then you may try posting it in Web Dynpro ABAP.

How can I keep the download window plus a status bar in the bottom side of my navigator?

I downloaded firefox 4 today and the first thing I noticed is that my status bar for downloads at the bottom side of my navigator it's gone! so I downloaded a plugin called "statusbar" and I don't like it at all... it is nothing like my old status bar and it takes away my big download window (the one that you can see even if you minimize the navigator); how can I make it back??
I like to have both things (the big window and the status bar) and I can't make it back using the options of the plugin.
Besides that, if I have the new statusbar it doesn't advice me when the download ends (that note that pops up when it's over saying "download finished" really useful when you're watching a video on fullscreen) and I can't change that either from the plugin options!
I know that not every plugin are made by firefox so if you can't help me please let me know anyway so I can go back to the latest firefox version to have my big downoloads window plus the statusbar at the bottom and the note all at a time!

How do I get the download window in iTunes 11?

Back in the iTunes 10 days (ie last week) there was an option for a download windowin the sidebar that popped up when you were downloading things - eg podcasts from the iTunes Store. If you clicked on it you got a new window showing what you were currently downloading or what was in the queue to be downloaded. This doesn't seem to appear in iTunes 11 - is there a setting that I can change to get this back?
When you are downloading over 10 podcasts each day it is helpful to leave it on that list so you have an idea of what is coming through the feeds, and possibly delete a few episodes from an ongoing subscription if they didn't sound interesting. Now it seems that you have to hover by your PC to see what comes up at the top of the screen, which is a bit stupid.
Any clues on how I can get the download page back, or whether there is some alternative way you can look at a list of recently downloaded podcasts by date (other than by looking at the "unplayed" list - I've got over 600 unplayed episodes).
I suspect that this may be a really stupid question with a really simple answer. Please, let me have it - I'm stumped!
Any suggestions welcomed.

I found this article with the explanation on how to find this again. In the upper right corner of itunes (only when an item is downloading) you will see a downward facing arrow inside a gray circle with a blue status bar type line below it. If you click that it will show you your downloads progress.

How can avoid to close the window?

My problem is that when user decides to close a window, system should ask conferm to that action, if user responds no, the window should stay, vice versa window should be closed if user conferm closing.

This will prevent your internal frame from closing:
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JInternalFrame.DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE);
Then you have to define your closing logic in the internalFrameClosing() method of InternalFrameListener. Be sure to close the window manually using frame.dispose().

How do i get the download window to remain open after closing firefox browser window

i sometimes download a bunch of files all at ones then have to go back to review them. but i don't need the browser open to do this just the download window. in older versions the download window would remain open after i closed the browser but i don't see a way to do that anymore?

You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

I have Firefox 6. How do I resize the download window? It is currently maximised, but I want to work with a smaller window by default. The Size option is greyed out.

I have no possibility to change the size of the current download window or to define a new default download window size and position.

Question reads as above...no catches, no add-ons. I just want the download window/manager to open as a tab and NOT a separate window.

The about:downloads page is only used by default if you are downloading in a Private Browsing mode window (tab), otherwise you would have to open this page manually.
If you use it often then you can consider to pin the tab with the about:downloads page to have it in a convenient position that the begin of the tab bar.

I can have couple of them open at the end of the day at the same time.
I have already tried to uninstall/resinstall but the problem remains...

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Auto-close "Downloads List" window?

Is there a way for the "Download List" window to automatically close when a download is complete? I have it set so that items are automatically cleared from the window when the download is complete, but would like the window to close as well rather than just sitting there empty. (Disabling it altogether might be OK too, I find with a fast connection most of the things I download might only take a second or two, so there's no need to really monitor their progress).

I don't think you can turn this window off.
One alternate use for the window aside from monitoring downloads is that if you click on the magnifying glass icon next to the item's name, you can have it revealed in the Finder. Handy if you don't want to bother clicking to find the item, Safari/the Finder will take you right to it!
(of course to use this feature you would have to change preferences so that the window wasn't cleared automatically.)

How to auto close finder window after drag and drop?

In Tiger, I would file away items on my desktop my dragging them to the hard drive and then digging down to the appropriate folder. The finder window would then close automatically after dropping the file. Is there a setting in Snow Leopard that will enable similar functionality? Whenever I complete a drag and drop now the finder window just stays open, which isn't a huge issue, but I'd still like to change it. Thanks!

VideoPlayerX or VideoPlayerPlus - auto close video window?

Just wondering if anyone has had any success trying to automatically close pop-up video windows (for embedded videos) at the end of the video with EventListener function?
I have a presentation to make where the videos need to be pop-up windows. Ideally, I want a play button, and a loop button, obviously window would close automatically only if the play button was pressed.
There are a few posts floating round for reference. And Dave Merchant mentions this exact feature with his VideoPlayerX in this post : http://forums.adobe.com/message/3569672#3569672, but I can't figure out what the JavaScript function would be. All I know is my video is RM1! and I'm currently trawling through the API reference in the event listener section!
If anyone's had any success so far, could you let me know? (Also, I'm a little unsure of where the event listener should go, doc level? or put it with the button that initiates 'play'?

It depends on how you're doing it.
If the close event originates from something being clicked in the SWF (such as a close button on the playbar) then you'll need to fire a timeout event from within ActionScript, and hence write your own widget - see Joel's blog for info.
If you're reacting to the end of playback and you're using VideoPlayerX, then you can do it all in JS as the widget has an event manager (which isn't present in the default VideoPlayer widget) - though with the current build it's rather fiddly to handle the idea of closing a popup, as you can't assign a handler until the annotation is activated - a doc-level script won't work out the box as the ActionScript engine doesn't exist until the floating window is visible, so you have to juggle about with invisible buttons to take over control of the "click to activate" feature of the RMA.
It's something which has been requested and I intend to make it easier in the next build of VideoPlayerX (due next week) by setting a default doc-level function to receive event messages. When it's released you'll be able to close the RMA by adding a doc-level function to the PDF, which says something like this (note this will NOT work with the current build or with the default player!):

Note : The inbuilt Events objects and handlers in the JS API are not used by Rich Media Annotations - they're only used by legacy media (Screen and MediaPlayer objects) so you can ignore them completely. They were included because legacy media plays in an external application, so there was no other way for the PDF to tell what that application was doing, or if it broke. RMAs have no inbuild event handler system, hence the need to extend the ActionScript code in the widget.
