How do I stop those Adobe Reader Update messages that keep popping from time to time ?. I run Adobe Reader in a terminal server and do not want these messages to pop up.
    thanks

I USED to like adobe PDF, I thought it was a great concept but now abode Acrobat takes over 1 GigHD to install, and the reader takes over 300Mb RAM just running, and the constant updates, updates, updates, updates, updates .... Drove me nuts, so the solution was to get rid of it
-- Now I have a few hundred dollars of software that I cannot re-sell, just sitting on a shelf collecting dust, but I am happy!!
After removing adobe acrobat* anything and everything --
Installed PDF Creator (Opensource) to make my pdfs.
    And
Install Sumatra PDF (Opensource) to read the pdfs.
They are very low resource intensive, and very small foot print, insignificant in size compared to the voracious Adobe PDF aps and I do not get pelted with constant updates -- yes it is like a virus, constantly calling home and constantly updating.
If I had my way I would get rid of FLASH as wel, and the constant update reminders as well.
No more memory hug running  reminding me about updates and life is good.

  • Adobe Reader update 11.0.09   Broke my mouse magnifier.  I uninstalled but now I get prompts to install.  How do I get rid of the prompts?

My gawd this site is the most ridiculously difficult site I've ever seen.  Round and round we go and where we stop nobody knows.  Will someone please tell me how to make the prompt for Adobe Reader update 11.0.09 go away??   It already shows that number was d/l'd in Sept. 2014.  I d/l'd it the other day and it broke the magnifier on my microsoft 5000 mouse.  I use that a LOT.  I can't lose it.  I uninstalled the update and now I get prompts continuously.  What to do?

Thank you I will try that.  Why am I being prompted to d/l an old update?  I didn't even know there was a more recent one.

  • How can I script Adobe Reader updates using vbScript, PowerShell or C#?

I would like to script Adobe Reader updates using vbScript, PowerShell or C#, are there any Adobe API calls I use to do this.  There are several different version that I support and auto update is not an option. I do updates at a specific time of the month. I would like to write a script that would download and install the update for the currently installed version of Adobe Reader (32 or 64 bit) for the version of the OS (32 or 64bit). I can detect the OS version and the Adobe version.  I can download updates but I do not want to hard code anything

    Sabian is correct.
Most admins download the updates from the ftp site and push via AIP, GPO, SCCM, or some other method whenever it makes sense for them.

  • How do I open .dll files automatically with Adobe Reader through Firefox?

    Hi,
When I print eBay labels through Firefox, a .dll file is downloaded. This used to open automatically in Adobe Reader, but now it opens as a text document in TextEdit, so I have to manually open Adobe Reader, change options to show "all files", and then locate the .dll file and open it.
When I try to change the default application in Firefox preferences, I can't find anything with the content type "dll".
Is there a way to have Firefox automatically open .dll files with Adobe Reader?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    Steve

    That worked, thank you!
I quit out of Firefox, renamed the file like you said, restarted my computer, and restarted Firefox.
When I went to download a label, Firefox asked me which application to use, and I picked Adobe Reader. I also checked the box to make that the default. This automatically opened the file in AR, and then when I did it the next time it worked perfectly.
Again, thank you so much for your help with this - although it's just a bit of time here and there saved it really adds up!
    Take care!
    -Steve

I have tried removing Firefox but when I try to do that it says that I need to close firefox - but of course it is not open. Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

Well, you're not telling us anything, that's the problem. No offense, but really, just saying that something doesn't work is not gonna yield any answers that would help. We wil lat least need a tiny bit of info about your system - operating system, possibly hardware specs, definitely info about security tools and otehr Adobe software...

Sorry, none of that worked. Its very frustrating.
Also, since the last upgrade, which seems almost automatic, half of the icons for my bookmarks and actual websites have disappeared.

  • Adobe Reader Updater Pop Ups on Mac are Daily & Annoying!

My Adobe Reader Updater Preferences are set to null - no reminders needed. YET, I get these pop ups reminding me that another update is ready. Daily! It interrupts my work, as on a Mac I see two icons jumping up and down in the apps bin until I respond. VERY DISRUPTIVE, Adobe! Stop it! Someone please tell me how to address these ridiculous, voluminous update pop ups. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Your Reader app needs to be updated.
    Download the offline installer: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Save it, but don't run it yet.
    Go to: Mac HD/Applications
Trash the Reader 11 Application from there
    Go to: MacHD/library/Internet Plugins
    Trash the AdobePDFviewer.plugin from there
    Trash the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin also
    Empty the trash
Mount the DMG and run the installer to reinstall Reader
When it finishes, reboot and open Reader from the Applications folder
Accept the License Agreement and then close Reader

  • Adobe Reader Updates and Flash Plugin for Reader.

I was surprised to find out that Adobe Reader Updates and also Flash Plugin for Adobe Reader cannot be installed on Windows 7 without Admin Rights!!!!!
I remember on Windows XP this was not an issue. I am sure I have checked the possibility of installing Adobe Flash Plugin for Adobe Reader on Windows XP without Admin Rights and it worked...
Now, we have some major issue...
I have prepared Adobe PDF Portfolio for some new policy for Housing Loan, and deployed it to be open from a Web Browser. As per my testing, it worked very nice, and the Business User loved it. On Windows XP, if flash plugin for Reader is not installed, the user will be guided to install it, and it works very nicely.
Just before sending the announcement to all users, we realized that on Windows 7, if flash plugin for Reader is not installed, then when the user clicks on the link to open the PDF Portfolio, then nothing happens. The browser window will open, and it will hang.
Then we found out that on Windows 7 we have to install the Reader Flash Plugin manually, and also, the user must have Admin Rights ...
Now, a decision has been made to cancel the work done using PDF Portfolio, and develop a simple page with links to the required documents...
    Any solution for this?
How we can install the required plugin without the need for Admin Right?
Why on Windows 7, the user does not get prompts to guide him to install Adobe Reader Flash Plugin?
    Tarek.

I think I can see the reason for this. The Flash Player is separated from Adobe Reader; the system component is now used. (It appears that the "browser plug-in" and "Flash plug-in for Adobe Reader" are indeed the same thing, loaded from the same system location).
Adobe are following recommended practice. It is right and proper that software is installed by the administrator. This then means that the non-administrator end user is protected from malware which attempts to change that software for bad reasons.
Nobody wants to walk round installing 1000 copies of software. Personally, I'd draw the line around 5 copies. Above that, software designed for bulk use is deployed centrally using enterprise deployment tools.
There are even more powerful reasons to do this today, as security updates should be installed almost immediately, and end users won't bother. Generally, the tools are standard, but the vendor adds support for deploying software in these standard frameworks.
