Another mac in my house [ uses snow leopard ] is always on and that has most of my music stored on it, how do I setup my Mac Pro [ mostly uses leopard ] so when I turn it on it always logs onto this other mac?
is this possible?

when I do 'connect to server' it won't let me permanently log onto the disc so that it sits on my desktop.
it doesn't need to be permanent. connect to the server so that it shows up on the desktop. and while it's there add it to login items.

  • How do stop automatically logging in to another user's account?

    My computer connects to SBC Yahoo DSL via PPPoE. The SBC Yahoo DSL account and password are set (in Internet Connect) so that when you click on Safari, the computer is able to connect to the internet without having to type in the account name and password each time.
    The problem is, there are multiple users on my computer who have Yahoo (or some variation of Yahoo, such as SBC Yahoo! or My Yahoo!) as a homepage. When one logs off, and I log onto my Yahoo homepage, I find I am still logged into the account of the user who just logged off. How do I stop this from happening?

    Hi mhoesq,
    Thanks for clarifying the different identities.
    Now, when each of you go to different parts of Yahoo, do you have a similar setup as with Safari, that is, each has a Yahoo identity and password ( I presume this if it says welcome so and so) and have you checked an automatic log-in/ remember me sort of thing.
    If that is the case ( and here I'm guessing) then if each person does not log out of their Yahoo account but just closes Safari, then the next time someone else logs in, Yahoo will think it is the same person.
    Safari will remember a user's homepage, and Yahoo will remember who is logged in.
    So adding to the scenario that you have described, if User A actively logs out of their yahoo account and then closes Safari and logs out of the Mac, then I would imagine when User B logs in, fires up Safari and is automatically logged in to a new yahoo account then it should say Welcome User B.
    There are a lot of presumptions here, but this may be the explanation.
    regards, roam

  • How can I automate log and capture in Final Cut Pro

    Does anyone know of a way to schedule the log and capture of video in Final Cut Pro with a script or software application, so that it doesn't have to be done manually?
    I am using a capture card in my Mac to record college lectures for our department and it's not always possible for me to be there to start the capture. Our lectures occur on a regular schedule.
    I am a new Mac user and I'm also new to Final Cut Studio 2. Thanks for any help on this topic!

    In Automator, all the apps you can automate are listed in the far left hand pane. Click on the QT Player icon there to see the "Actions" available for it. In that list you should see "New Video Capture" and "Start Capture". First drag "New Video Capture" to the big pane on the right, where you assemble your workflow. Then drag the "Start Capture" action beneath that. You're basically done.
    How to Save and Schedule this can be found in the Automator Help, when you search on "iCal":
    1. Choose File menu > Save As Plug-in.
    2. Choose iCal from the "Plug-in for" pop-up menu.
    3. Click Save. Automator opens iCal and creates an event that calls the workflow at the scheduled time.
    4. Name your event and set the date and time for the workflow to run using the pop-up menus in the info drawer.
    You'll need to do another "workflow" to Stop the recording. All you need is the "Stop Record" action in the workflow - then save the same way as listed above.
    Just note - I've used this process before and the QT movie generated, despite being recorded as "Camera Native" - was not editable in FCP. In fact, I don't even think I could import the final QT into FCP - let alone edit it. If editing's necessary maybe someone else can offer up another step to enable it. It was not necessary for my exact application, so I never explored it.
    Good luck.

  • How do I automatically log the battery percentage and time on my Retina Macbook Pro to an excel spreadsheet? (OSX 10.9.4)

    Hello! So I own a 13" rMBP, and I'm running OSX 10.9.4.
    How do I log my battery percentage with the date, probably down to the hour, preferably to an Excel file?
    I want to track the rate at which my battery discharges, so that in the future I can compare the present rate of discharge with the past and see exactly how much my battery has deteriorated by. I'll take averages over long periods of time to account for, e.g. the fact that watching Netflix drains my battery faster than editing an essay. I also want a solution that uses negligible power in the background.
    I've spent hours looking for an app that both calculates the rate of discharge and keeps all data, but I haven't found any. Eventually I decided that hopefully it isn't too difficult to write an AppleScript or something that simply logs the system clock and battery percentage in tandem every hour or so.
    Thank you for your time!
    Herman

    What Barney said.
    Here is the script to create a CSV text file with
    Date
    Time
    Current Battery Percentage as an integer
    #!/bin/bash
    batterycsv="$HOME/battery.csv"
    export GREP_OPTIONS="--color=never"
    # if you want the percentage sign too, exclude the second egrep
    battpct=$(pmset -g ps | egrep -o "(\d+)%" | egrep -o "\d+")
    datetime=$(date "+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M")
    printf "%s,%s,%s\n" $datetime $battpct >> $batterycsv
    Output on a fully charged MacBook Air to battery.csv will be individual lines of the following format:
    2014-08-09,19:49,100

  • How to stop automatically backup on my external hard disk

    Hi,
    I have a macbook air. The first time I plug in my external hard drive (my external HD has many data from another Windows PC). Mac ask me whether I want to use this external HD for backup. Actually, I just wanna use it for data transfer but I accidentally say "yes". So, Mac delete all of my files from my external HD and start to create the backup file.
    My questions are
    1. How do I let Mac stop backup the file to my external HD
    2. I loose all data from my external HD. There are about 200 GB. I heard that there are some data recovery softwares. Can you recommend me whether there is a free software which will works on this issue?
    Please help me. Thank you very much.
    Pat

    Thank you so much BDAqua. I turn the Time machine off now.
    About the format type, Macbook automatically did it. I guess format type is Mac OS Extended. I tried to connect this external HD to Windows PC but the PC cannot recognize it. So, I cannot recover from PC where I have recovery software. Do you have any idea how to let PC recognize this external HD?
    I try to find the way but it seems I have to reconnect the HD back to Mac and try to recover on Mac. Is that only way? Do you have any suggestion? Thanks again.

  • How to dial automatically internet connection in firefox browser at browser startup as in internet explorer

    i have ADSL modem broadband connection in which i have to connect to internet by establishing a connection by using following steps
    control panel>network connection>create a new connection>connect to internet>set up my connection manually >connect using dial up modem OR connect using a braodband connection in which username and password required
    creating this connection i have to provide username and password provided by ISP.
    i have to dial internet connection manually after modem set local area connection automatically
    i found a solution for internet explorer and by changing setting internet explorer start automatically dialling internet connection as i start the internet explorer.
    is their in mozilla firefox an option to automatically dial internet connection as i open firefox browser?
    and is their is any solution for as i start my computer internet connections established automatically without opening any browser , if such solution is available ,please tell about it.

    The setting you set in IE also affects Firefox. For example, if you set the following, then when Firefox makes a connection request to Windows, Windows is supposed to dial the connection:
    Windows Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections or <br>
    Internet Explorer Tools menu > Internet Options > Connections
    "Dial whenever a network connection is not present"

  • How do I Automatically Send a PDF for Shared Review?

    Hello,
    I am trying to automate sending documents for shared review. Basically, all my users post PDFs to the same location and so they perform all the same actions. I would like to make it easier on them and automatically trigger all the actions. Currently, I am using Acrobat.dll in a C# program, but I am not adamant about using this particular technology. All I could get was:
    Acrobat.AcroAppClass acro = new Acrobat.AcroAppClass();
    acro.MenuItemExecute("SendForSharedReview");
    This opens the shared review wizard, and I can send keystrokes to the wizard dialog box, but I am hoping there is a more elegant method of doing it. Is there an API that I should be using or some other method to automatically trigger a shered review on a selected document?
    Thanks,
    Pawel

    It took a while to figure out, but I confirmed it with Adobe staff. The answer is no; sending multiple documents for shared review is not possible with LiveCycle or with any other Adobe software.
    The only thing to do would be automate with some kind of clicker application or AutoIt, but that is far from ideal.

    I have set up two users, one for myself and one for children.  The computer automatically logs in for the children with no password required.  When the children go to spotlight and type in a search criteria all of my files show and open up.  How do I prevent this?

    Log in to your account, and move all your files to your home folder. No other users should be able to access them there and they won't show up with a Spotlight search.
    Make sure your kids' account(s) do not have admin privileges.

  • How to disable back to my mac automatic log in

    When I used screen sharing in OS Lepoard I would have to connect using my user id and password (different from Apple ID).  But now in OS Lion when I use file sharing or screen sharing it connects to the remote computer automatically and uses my Apple ID ([email protected]) to log on.  How do I disable the automatic log on?  I want to be able to screen share but be prompted for my credentials.

    Bump.
    Anyone?
    In OS Lion my Back to my Mac remote computer connects without login or password. Is there anyway to have it such that you have to supply login and password when connecting or screen sharing?

  • Help needed - automatic log in on public computer.   How to get rid of the account.

    Hi there
    Recently while on vacation, my son logged into a public computer on his ichat.  Unfortuantely, it was clicked as automatic log in.
    Now we are back home and have realized that someone has been accessing his account.
    We have tried deleting the account from our home computer, however, it does not delete it from the public computer.
    What will happen if we  change the password on our home computer?  Will the public computer be prompted to re-login with the new password, and therefore won't be able to?
    Help please

    hI,
    Yes change the Password and they will not be able to login.
    That is change the Password at the server you are using.
    Either AIM itself for AIM name or iForgot for @MAC.com or MobilMe names
    Login to your Google account and change the password there in your Account Settings
    With any other Jabber Account you will have to use the third Party app you used to get the accounst Name set up.
    Then Change it in iChat.

  • How do I reset the automatic log-in?

    Originally my MacBook would remain on-line until I decided to log off. Now it automatically logs off after a short period of time (~15 minutes) and I need to log on again to get the Internet up and running. This is messing up my downloading as some files require over an hour to download and I do not want to babysit the computer to keep it logged on. What have I done and can I undo it?

    Is the user logging out or is the internet disconnecting after 15 minutes?
    If the user is logging out go to System Preferences > Security and there is an option to log-out after a specified time period inactive, uncheck that box.

  • How do I stop Mail from automatically logging onto my email provider

    Prior to Mtn Lion, anytime Mail started it would prompt me for the password to log onto my email provider.  If I didn't want to check for new email I would cancel out.  That's no longer the case.  If I log onto a wi-fi connection, Mail automatically logs into my email provider and downloads new items.  The prompt for a password no longer appears.  I've gone into my Mail account and removed the password but that didn't help;  I've gone into keychain and checked for the existence of items for Mail and found none; and I've gone into Mail preferences to the Advanced tab and removed the check mark on "include when automatically checking for new messages."  I'm still getting new messages.  Once I log into my email provider, I don't mind the automatic send/receive from happening.  However, when I'm on an untrusted system, I would prefer to control the activity.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Thanks for your help.
    Before shifting to manual updates I'd probably prevent Mail app from starting automatically and leave it down until I'm ready for mail activity.  Once I logon I don't mind the periodic updates.  However, I should be able to work offline.  This was the case when Notes and ToDo's were part of the Mail environment.
