How do I back up applications from my ipad 1

I have an old iPad 1. Gen. That's stuck on iOS 5. I want to reset it, but keep some apps on it. However some of the apps have been updated and now requires iOS6. So how do I backup my apps so I can restore them after I reset and clear the iPad?

The only transition you can add this way is default cross dissolve. If the images are in the timeline, move the playhead to the beginning of the images, select them all, and drag from the timeline to the canvas to overwrite with transition.

To delete an App, touch and hold on the icon until an "X" appears. Touch the "X" to delete the App. Press the Home button to restore the icons to normal.
To write papers you might consider the Pages App.

I have an ipad2 with some home movies that I had transferred from my 2011 mackbook pro.
The HDD of my macbook had a mechanical failure recently so I had to get a new one installed but obviously lost some home movies and familly photos.
Now, I have some of that data on my ipad2 but but everytime I connect it to my mackbook, it wants to delete the previous data on my ipad2.
Is there any way that I can transfer those home movies from my ipad2 to my mackbook without deleting it?
And if that is not possible then how can I transfer data/movies etc from my macbook to ipad2 without deleting the existing one on the ipad?
P.S. They are both on the same wifi network and I have maverick OS on mac and iOS7 on the ipad.

It is a very easy thing to do. If you bought the apps with your Apple ID you can always download them again for free - using that same ID - in the purchased tab of the App Store. If you bought the apps, you can keep them all.
What I would do is ... Before you give her the old iPad, transfer all purchases into iTunes on your computer, backup your iPad with iTunes and sync one last time. Then when you get your new iPad, restore form the old iPad backup and sync with iTunes and the new iPad should be identical to the old one.

You cannot delete any of the Apple built-in apps e.g. iPod, App Store, Game entre etc. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
If the app is on your computer's iTunes then you should probably also either delete it from there as well, or un-tick it from your iPad's sync list when you next connect it, otherwise it might get put back on the iPad. First format the external as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Connect via Firewire.
If it is just a few files or folders you want to back up you can just drag and drop. Or you can use SyncTwoFolders to keep the backups up to date.

If the applications were originally drag and drop installations you can simply drag them to the trash and empty. If they were installed by an installer there should be an uninstaller included. If you're not sure you should check with the software developer for instructions. In this case Google can be your friend.

You don't have to move the songs back into iTunes if you don't want to, the songs are still in iTunes on your computer - you just copied a version of the songs onto the iPad from iTunes.
If you want to remove them from the device itself, just swipe across the song while you are in song list mode in the music app and a red delete button will pop up. You can also tap and hold down on a playlist or a album icon and the X to delete will pop up. It will not work for Genius playlists.
You can also connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes, select the iPad on the left side, click on the Music Tab on the right, uncheck all of the music that you want to remove, click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes, and that will remove the songs from the iPad.
