How do I back up iWeb on a different drive?

It occurred to me that I need to back up iWeb and my website on a different drive. Does anyone know how I should do this? I'm not sure where all the necessary files are kept.

Hi Rick, I just noticed on your site it shows your
domain.com on every page
I haven't seen this before.
Did you rename all your pages index.html and then
drag the original page over to their stuff?
Just curious as I only did it for my first page ????
If you mean the fact that each page says rickpatrickphotography.com, I'm not sure how this happened. Until you pointed it out I hadn't noticed the fact, and it had not been an issue. When you refer to dragging their stuff above are you talking ftp?

How do I back up files to external hard drive in order to upgrade operating system?

Buy yourself a portable hard drive from WD or the like.  It should have a capacity at least twice that of your machine hard drive.  Then follow the instructions that come with it; it is quite straightforward.
I have a similar machine to you by the sound of it.   After the initial back up, it is just a matter of topping up every couple of months or so, plus whenever you do to back up any major upgrade.
A portable one is good because you can store it with relatives when not in use which gives protection in the case of fire or theft.
I use two backups.   One, an external HD permanently connected for my Time Machine and the second, a portable for the reasons I gave.

  • How can i install audio content on a different drive

i did install logic studio 8 without all the jam pack cause i was short on drive space and i am wondering how i can install the rest of the dvd's on a different drive....i am using a macbook with 60 gig HD so i didnt have any other choice than unchecking all the jam pack if i wanted to install the appz
    TIA !!
    Gprok

In the installer, next to each jamppack is a drill-down arrow - open that and you can choose where to install the loop content.
The instrument content has to go to your Garageband Instruments directory, but you can move the sample content (exception: the "Hybrid Synthesizers" sample folder) to your external drive afterwords, as long as you leave the instrument and settings files where they are.

  • How to move temp file, redo log to different drive oracle 9i

    Hi ,
    I am using oracle 9i
by mistakenly, i have instaled oracle installable on system drive i mean c: drive.I have installed teh database on D: drive.
For tunning perfomance i would like to move the redlog files and temp files to different drive.
Could you please explain me the step by step procedure how to do this
    Thanks
    AITS

    Very easy -
Create a new temp tablespace with the files on the drive you want, make it the default temp tablespace for any users/schemas you have created, then drop the old temp tablespace including datafiles.
For the redo logs, create new groups, again with the logfiles on the dirves you want them on, cycle out of the old ones with "alter system switch logfile;" then drop them.

  • How to point user home folders to a different drive?

I helped a friend set up a new iMac running Leopard, which he shares with his teenage son. He bought a 500GB external hard drive for his son to use, because he creates tons of videos and photos and Garage Band stuff and he doesn't want that cluttering up his internal hard drive. But kids being the way they are, he can't get his son to properly save everything to the external drive, which is creating tensions. I want to point the "Movies" and "Pictures" and "Music" folders to a different drive so that they work as aliases. I tried to create aliases but that didn't work because you can't delete those folders. There must be a way to have those folders point to a different mount point, using Terminal, but I don't know how to do that. I know how to use Terminal, but I'm not familiar with all the inner workings of the system's symbolic links in this regard. Does anyone here know how?
I realize that there are probably different places that need to be changed. I tried doing this in Tiger with NetInfo Manager, and while you can change the "home" folder of a user to a different location, it doesn't actually work, probably because there are other places where it needs to reference the new path. Of course, Leopard doesn't include NetInfo Manager anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

You don't want to mess around with links. Software often looks for a "file" or "directory" and won't accept a true link. Often, it will just silently replace the link with a directory. Also, using links in this fashion isn't supported so, if it doesn't work, you have nowhere to turn.
You should have much more success changing the actual location of your home directory. You were on the right track with NetInfo. Some software might look for "/Users/adwiz", but they shouldn't. The new replacement is "dscl". The command to do what you want should be: "sudo dscl . -change /Users/<username> NFSHomeDirectory <old_path> <new_path>". It would probably be a good idea to make sure that the name of the home directory matches your short user name.
You can also try using the "official" replacement to NetInfo, Server Admin Tools. I have never tried it though.
Changing the home folder like this will only change the pointer in the system. It will not actually move any of your data. You should probably do all this while logged in as a different admin user. Then use the Terminal "mv /Users/adwiz /Volumes/BigDrive/adwiz", for example. Then, when you log in as that other user, all should be correct.

  • How do I back up ipad to external hard drive?

I want to back up my IPad (without the cloud) to an external hard drive that also will back up my IMac using Time Machine. How can I do this? Thanks!!

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:

  • How to recover backed up photos from mbp hard drive

I'll try to make this short.
Basically I had a late 2006 macbook pro 15", it died on me about 2 weeks ago, hard drive failure I think. Just getting the white screen when I started it up, tried a few things and no luck, so I decided it was time to upgrade. Ordered a new macbook pro retina 13".
Then last weekend I was away and my iphone 5 got water damaged and stopped working completely. The thing is I had everything backed up on icloud apart from my photos because there was too many. I hadnt backed up or synced my iphone with my new mbp (wish I had).
I now have a new iphone 5s and want to try and get my old photos back.
I have ordered a usb enclosure to try and recover data from my broken macbook pro hard drive. The enclosure hasnt arrived yet but I wanted to get a head start on what I need to do. I thought it would be as simple as finding the backed up folder itunes keeps with the photos in it. But from looking around the net it seems these photo files arent easily readable. Is there some software I need for this situation, will I need to pay for it ?
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

TM does not retain files that have been deleted from the hard drive for more than one week. During the weekly consolidation files removed from the hard drive are then removed from the TM backup.
If you are trying to use TM like a regular backup storage utility, then you've misunderstood how TM works. See the following explanation:
About TM "Backup Drive is Full" Alert
TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Data are deleted to make space for a new backup, but if TM is unable to delete enough files to free up space for the new backup, then you will get a disk full error. Normal thinning during a backup occurs during TM's periodic weekly and monthly consolidation backups. Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.

  • How do I back up music to external hard drive

    Hi!
The recent loss of some music and the instablity of the iTunes program I have on my machine leads me to believe that I need to delete the program completely and then reinstall.
Instead of goign through the motion os burning 500+ songs to CD's, I'd like to back-them up to an external hard drive.
Is this possible? Will the crypto-license protection built in allow for something like that? If so, then how do I do it?
Did I miss the instructions on the main page as I only saw instructions on how to back-up to CD's?
    Thanks.

plug in your external harddrive via usb or which ever way you connect yours then use the backup facility and it will ask you where you want to back up to then click on the respective drive letter for your external hard drive.
alternativly you can open my computer double click on the external hard drive ( if only 1 internal hdd and 1 cd rom it should be the "e" drive ) and selct the itunes folder and right click then copy, cllick onto the external hdd and right click in the display window for your e drive and right click then paste it will then copy all the files to your external hdd

  • How do I back up iPhoto to a zip drive?

I just bought a 16gb flash drive and would like to back up (copy, not completely move) the photos from iPhoto so I have another copy of them.  I do have Time Machine also, but I want to put my pictures on a flash drive also and them store elsewhere.
Also, how do I figure out the size of my Iphoto library and if it will all fit on my zip drive?
    Thanks much!

Wow, my Iphoto library is 70gb, apparently I underestimated when I bought a 16gb zip drive!  Is there anything else besides a zip drive that you would recommend using to back up my photos for offsite storage?  Should I just go get an external drive, plug it in and then copy to that?
I mentioned that I have Time Machine but I am paranoid and want to have offsite storage as well.
Also, when I drag my iphoto library icon from finder to the eternal drive, that will only copy it, right?  I don't want to completely move it and leave no pictures on my computer.
Thanks so much for your help.

Hello 88feederups, It seems your only recourse is to press the F-7 key to continue, and see if the system will boot to the desktop.
If you manage to get to the desktop, I would suggest trying to back up your important data, and make sure you have a version of Windows XP. You should also consider locating a new hard drive.
The failed Smart Test can be a precusor to the hard drive failing completely, if not already.
Here  is the link for the specifications for your system and it shows the system shipped with a 160 GB Ultra DMA hard drive.
This is an IDE ATA type hard drive and not the newer Sata type.

  • How do I back photo events to external hard drive?

I am a fairly new mac user and finding IPhoto very difficult for filing pictures and folders.
I have now got all my pictures in Events and in date order ( I used to have a folder for each year with a sub folder for seperate events in the good old PC days but dont seem to be able to do that)
Now i have an external hard drive I have copied the Iphoto library across and it has all the eevnts listed as they should.  However when I create a new event and try and copy that to the external drive it copeies the pictures seperately and not in a folder.
    What am I doing wrong?
I was going to set up Timeline but although I have a 500GB machine that is barely half used the 500GB external drive wasnt big enough!

Hi Mike, I'd use a backup tool to update that folder, like...
    Get carbon copy cloner...

    Or SuperDuper...

  • How do you move imported iMovie events to different drive?

    Hi there,
I'd like to import my entire iMovie event library (200+ GB) into Final Cut Pro X, but I can't figure out how to get the imported events to live anywhere besides the startup disk.
    Here's my process so far:
Use FCPX's feature to import my entire iMovie event library. Make tea.
I don't seem to be able to choose which drive to import to, so they end up on the startup disk at ~/Movies/Final Cut Events
No worries! FCPX is a media management superhero. I just use the FCPX event browser to drag the events to my external drive.
Make more tea while all the events are moved to my external.
So far so good! My ~/Movies/Final Cut Events folder is clean, and my /Volumes/ExternalDrive/Final Cut Events folder is full.
Now let's test updating my imported library by clicking to import the library a second time. (Dialog confirms my impression that only new material will be copied.)
Result: Oh no! My entire iMovie event library is re-imported to the startup disk. Now I have two copies of each event in FCPX (not to mention the original copy in iMovie events -- oi my hard drives are filling up fast.)
    So:
How do I get FCPX to import my iMovie event library to a drive other than startup? I love the idea of being able to periodically sync my iMovie events to FCPX, but it's not going to be possible if those events are required to live on my startup disk.
    Thanks for any help,
    - canton

You really don't want to share the Events folder even if you could. If any other application changes (or sometimes even opens) a clip in a FCPX Event, FCPX will offline that clip with no easy way to relink it.
I'm surprised your Android phone footage isn't supported; what is the codec/format? Have you tried importing it after copying the files to the hard drive and using "Import Files" as opposed to importing from the "camera" directly?
My strong recommendation would be to keep the Events separate; use iMovie for android footage only, and FCPX for everything else. When FCPX supports the footage in the way you want, import them at that time and start using FCPX exclusively.
List of FCPX supported formats: http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0/#ver2833f855
