How do I back up media on my iPhone 3G?

Apologies if this is too obvious. Up until now I've never used iTunes to sync my music with my iPhone. My mac doesn't have a lot of spare HD space, so I didn't want to use up 10-15GB in duplicated data. Right now I've realised (like everyone else) that iOS 4 delivers almost no benefit to 3G owners, but comes with a big speed penalty, so I'm thinking about upgrading back to 3.1.3. The problem is that I know this will delete all the music from the 3G, and reloading from individual disks is a very tedious process.
Question is, can I reverse-sync my 3G with iTunes? By that, I mean can I transfer all the music on my 3G back to iTunes?

OK, just went back to 3.1.3 and I've got my iPhone back! Much more responsive. Only downside... I lost one application that would only work with iOS4, and I lost about a month's worth of text messages because I had to go back to my last 3.1.3 backup. All in all, a highly successful operation.

Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
Before syncing contacts with an empty Windows Contacts address book, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data which you want to select. Syncing direct with Windows Contacts via the iTunes sync process is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

How do I back up my tunes and iPhone Apps?

Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to the external drive and copy the entire thing.
If you want to test that it worked or would like to actually start using it from that location instead, use these instructions when you start iTunes to point it to the new location...

If you are just testing, then close iTunes after you verify it works, and restart iTunes again with the same instructions and point it back to your internal drive (original) location.

  • ITunes is prompting me to update my iTouch (4th Gen.) to iOS 5, but it will erase all media. Is there a way to backup the music on my iTouch that was not purchased via iTunes? How do you back up media, if it is even possible?

I no longer have access to my other music. My computer crashed a month ago, and I did not have my newest music files backed-up anywhere else. I really don't want to lose that music.

I upgraded to version 5 on my IPad Wifi64 and now I can't find my music or podcasts, etc.  I don't want or need to upload everything to a cloud.  Does anyone know how I get to my music and stuff?
Oh...I can see the music when I connect to my computer.  I'm hoping that Apple isn't acting like Microsoft and eliminating features to push people towards something they want...like access to your information...or for you to only have things you buy from them.  Hopefully I'm over thinking it and there is simple answer...anyone know the answer?

  • How To Sync Backed Up Photos To New iPhone 5?

    Hi,
I was just wondering how to get my backed up photo album from my iPhone 4 to my new iPhone 5? I have backed up a lot of photos from my old iPhone and want to transfer them all to my new one, but when I sync, it only syncs my music and apps?
It won't sync my contacts and notes etc as wellm but have retrieved this through iCloud which isn't a problem, but I cannot get my old messages and photos to go through? I know you can just manually sync photos from folders but I would rather have them in my camera roll as it makes it easier rather than seperate folders, and want to make sure my geo tags are there as I have been to a lot of places around the world!
I have tried backing up my iPhone 4 over and over, and even got to a point where it said importing photos which was a good sign, but when I restore my iPhone 5 and try it it still won't pick up the photos or contacts etc? I have made sure I have selected my most recent backup so that shouldn't be the problem, but just wondered if I haven't put a setting on or something?
My friend who also upgraded from a 4 to a 5 literally syced up and was away?
    Thanks for your help,
    Leslie

What are you actually trying to do? If you wish to sync them to the iPod, that means have them on the iPod and in iTunes, but you specifically say you don't want them on the PC. However, like music on the iPod, to have it there it needs to be in the library (especially if you want to auto-sync), which is what you say you have to do.
You mention the library and transferring the podcasts automatically, which suggests that you are trying to put them onto the iPod to listen to, but then you mention enabling disk use, which surely means storing them on the iPod as data files which you cannot listen to. So do you want to put them onto the iPod to listen to, or just to store them?
How are you getting these podcasts anyway? The easiest way is to subscribe to them and let iTunes do all the work of finding and downloading them into the podcast part of iTunes and automatically syncing them into the Podcast section of the iPod. There are options in iTunes for keeping none, some, or all podcasts on the iPod, even once you have listened to them.
Provide us with a bit more information and maybe we can sort out the best solution for you.
    Regards,

  • How to restore backed up data of another iPhone?

Please help me out. I connected my friend's iPhone to my iTunes and it offered to update the software on it. I decided to update as my friend had never than that before. And, now I am in trouble, cause all his data is gone. I mean all... before it was synchronizing it said that it was backing up the data ... does anyone know how to find this data? Because my iTunes has only the data for my iPhone ...
    Thank you

Go to iTunes preferences. Is there a backup listed under the Devices tab for your friend's iPhone?
If so, your friend needs to restore his iPhone with iTunes from the backup for his iPhone.
When restoring, his iPhone will be erased and the firmware will be re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore the iPhone from an available backup - which is the default selection. If the backup for his iPhone is not selected, you can select it from the pop-up.
The backup includes data such as most iPhone settings, email account settings, contact info, SMS messages, notes, recent calls, call favorites, photos that were in the iPhone's camera roll, and 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred to an iPhone from a single computer only.
If the backup for his iPhone is available and restored, do not sync his iPhone. He will need to sync his iPhone with the iTunes library on his computer to re-transfer his selected iTunes content including 3rd party apps.

I cannot seem to back up my photos from my iphone 5 to my computer.  I turn off icloud back up on my phone, hook up to my deskstop...which opens itunes.  I sync, but the photos do not back up.  If I go to the photos tab in itunes, I see where I can copy photos from my desktop to my phone, but not the other way around.  I am sure I am missing something easy and basic.  Please advise me!  thank you!

I don't really understand your comment about "sing of tubes in RED which is wired". But if you are referring to the display of iTunes and the USB port that is an indication that you must restore your iPhone by connecting it to your computer via USB and then using iTunes on the computer to restore it.

  • Backing up my iPad n iPhone on a apple pc

How do I back up my iPad and iPhone on the same apple pc my wife has hers backed up  without sharing our information?

Make sure to give each device a separate name.
    Bob's iPhone
    Mary's iPhone
    Bob's iPad
    Mary's iPad
The computer can always tell the difference.  The separate names are so that each user knows with backup appears on the list and can select accordingly.
To do this I like to work with iTunes in sidebar mode.
From the iTunes menu go to "View" then select "show sidebar."
When the device is plugged in you should see it listed under "Devices" in the sidebar.
To change the device name click twice with a one-second interval between clicks.
You'll know you've done it correctly if the name appears highlighted.  Type to change the device name.
