How do I backup my iPhone on iCloud without accessing the settings on the actual device?
Last night i dropped my iPhone 4s in some water and it will not turn on at all. In order to get a new handset, Apple have asked me to backup my phone on iCloud and then wipe it to be sent off... However, i've tried and it doesn't seem possible without accessing the iPhone settings which are actually on the iPhone. Is it possible to backup my broken handset without actually accessing the options on the device.
Advice would be amazing as soon as possible as the man is coming to collect the phone tomorrow morning!
Hello Asicopper,
If the iCloud is not alredy setup on your iPhone then you cannot setup without access on your iPhone as it has to be done Manually entering your Apple Id and Password in iPhone Settings>iCloud and then you need to Turn On the Data that needs to be backed up on iCloud and also click on Backup now for the first time. But if you have ever synced your iPhone with iTunes on your computer then you can check on your computer if you have a backup taken there. You can check that by opening iTunes on your Computer in iTunes > Edit> Preferences> Device and under Device see if you have any backup. And there is "No" other way to backup your iPhone if it is completely Dead.

You can't. iCloud backups can only be done over wifi.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

I hope I am making sense to you. Thank you very much.
1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer. -
OK, here's a fun challenge for everyone out there. My wife got an iPhone 5 for Christmas (2012) last year, and we purchased the iCloud backup to go with the new phone. She was backing up her iPhone as usual (when plugged in and connected to Wifi), including the camera roll (we didn't figure out how to use the Photostream feature until AFTER we had to reset her phone as described below).
So...in April 2013, she had to reset her phone--wipe out everything on it--and start over again. At that time, we discovered the photostream feature, and have been backing up pics from her iPhone to my PC (and a portable hard drive) since April. But, we do NOT have our pics from Jan-Apr 2013, and are both kind of freaking out that we lost 3 months of our kids lives (including both birthdays). I believe they are stored on iCloud (as part of a back up image from her iPhone stored on iCloud). I would like to get those pictures, but the only way I've seen from user threads to get those pictures is to RE-load a backup image on her iPhone, then take the camera roll pics and put all the pictures on a shared photostream so that I can then get them on my PC and save them off. But, to do that, my wife would have to put her phone back 8 months, which as anyone could understand is not something to be done lightly (it is her work phone also).
So, long story short, we have some pics on iCloud that I need to get to---how do we get back those pictures? Can someone from Apple pull down the backup image to get to the pics, then put them on our iCloud photostream?
Thanks so much for your help, and Happy New Year!
Davesure pretty simple. make a backup of your current settings
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
then import pics to computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

Like many others after I installed Maverick I found that all the calendar history has been lost and most of the forward info has also been lost. Also in order to get calendar, contacts and notes to sync with the iPhone I have had to move to iCloud. Contacts and notes sync fine. new calendar entries sync ok. My iPhone has all the calendar entries that were on the Mac before I installed Maverick. So far iCloud has not overwritten them nor have they synced onto iCloud.
How can I get all the entries from my iPhone onto iCloud, without losing the only copy of my calendar from my iPhone?
Thanks Apple for deciding to take over my privacy. I do not want this data stored on a US based server. Fortunately Mail still syncs via my own email provider. I guess Apple will find a way to stop that soon too!Greetings Nefertiti72,
It seems you are experiencing an issue with contact syncing and management. It seems you've removed an email account which contained a number of contacts that are not associated with your iCloud account. I have linked to a knowledge base article which provides more information about iCloud contacts syncing:
Get help using iCloud Contacts - Apple Support
Learn what to do if you’re having issues using iCloud Contacts. For example, you might make changes to Contacts that don't update across all of your devices.
You may want to consider importing the contacts from the email account you removed. You can do it easily by following the steps in this article:
iCloud: Import a vCard
You can import an electronic business card, also called a vCard, into iCloud Contacts. If the vCard contains contact information for more than one person, each contact becomes a separate entry.
In iCloud Contacts, choose Import vCard from the Action pop-up menu , which appears at the bottom of the All Contacts list or a list of group contacts
Select a vCard to import.
The contacts from the vCard are added to the All Contacts group in Contacts. You can add the contacts to any other group by dragging them to the desired group.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Best,

How do you backup your iphone 4s to the icloud?
How do you backup your iphone 4s to the icloud?
Restore from an iCloud backup
1. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If a newer version of iOS is available, follow the onscreen instructions to download and install it.
2. Make sure you have a recent backup to restore from.
On your iOS 8 device: Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, then tap a device listed under Backups to see the date and size of its latest backup.
On your iOS 7 device: Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage, then tap a device listed under Backups to see the date and size of its latest backup.
3. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap “Erase all content and settings.”
4. In the Setup Assistant, proceed to “Set up your device,” tap Restore from a Backup, then sign in to iCloud.
5. Proceed to “Choose backup,” then choose from a list of available backups in iCloud.

I can't backup my iPhone to iCloud
After updating to iOS7 I can't backup my iPhone to iCloud. When I try it starts up, then stops and says, "Last backup could not be completed"
Details: I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 7.0.3
Things I have already tried (in the order I tried them):
- Doing a 'hard reset' on the phone
- Buying more iCloud storage
- Deleting the old backup that was saved into iCloud (so now I have no backups saved)
- Turning phone off then on again
- Changing my iCloud password
- Deleting the iCloud account from my phone then signing in again
Other issue which may or not be related:
- I have yet to get the Music app to work on this phone since updating to iOS7. It opens then promptly crashes. This is secondary to getting the backups to work.
Any help would be appreciated! If you want to see how big the backup is for your phone go Settings -> iCloud -> Storage & Backup -> Manage storage and up the too it will tell you how large the backup files are for your phone. :)

Does anyone know how to set up 2 iphones on iCloud?
Does anyone know how to set up 2 iphones on iCloud using just one macbook pro whilst keeping contacts, iTunes etc separate? My wife and I both have a new iPhone 4s but want to keep everything seperate.

Then you need separate Apple ID's & iCloud accounts. This is required if you want to use things like iMessage, FaceTime & iCloud and not have a mess on your hands. -
How can I backup my iphone 4 using iTunes 9.1.1? Is there a workaround for this? I need to backup my phone for replacement but it tells me I need 10.1 or later. All software is up to date, Operating system is 10.4.11. Thanks!
No sorry. You need to upgrade to v10.5 Leopard (minimum) in order to sync an iPhone 4.
iPhone minimum requirements:
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later
iTunes Store account
Internet access
You can upgrade to Leopard if your Mac meets v10.5 requirements.

If your Mac is Intel, you can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard if your Mac meets 10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications -
I am not able to backup my Iphone to Icloud because my wi-fi is greyed outon my phone. The wi-fi button will not slide to the ON position, therefore, Iam unable to backup my phones contents. What can I do? I need to save my pics, info....etc, because I have to get another phone.
Back up to your computer instead. To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library. Finally, save any photo stream photos to your camera roll (open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then import your camera roll photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. (You don't need to delete them from your phone afterwards unless you need the space.)
If you're getting another phone, be sure to delete your iCloud account and turn off iMessage, FaceTime and Game Center before doing so. (See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661).
