How do I backup playlists WITHOUT running iTunes?

I have a corrupted Installshield and cannot run iTunes nor can I reinstall it. I'm addressing that issue - I'm have to reinstall my O/S (Windows XP Pro). I've already backed up my songs, but my question is:
Is there any way to locate and backup my playlists WIHTOUT opening iTunes?

Prior to discovering the above facility, I used to copy each mp3 file into a folder on my desktop and then burning a CD. Using the above is much easier but it also backs up the podcasts that happen to be in iTunes at the time. Is there any way to exclude podcasts when executing the backup?

If you backup/save a playlist, there is no music saved.

How To Create Backup Playlist for iPod

Can someone tell me how to create a backup playlist for songs on my iPod? If I ever need to use iPod Restore, I know that the iPod will return to factory settings, and all my songs will be wiped out. I would like to create a backup playlist that will allow me to select all songs and then drag and drop them into the "wiped clean" iPod (under iTunes "Devices") after Restore is complete. I have created an iPod Playlist folder under "Playlists", but iTunes will not allow me to drag and drop music from my iPod into the new folder.

Apple TV, Time Capsule (or Airport Extreme) and streaming movies without running iTunes?

I'm thinking of buying an Apple TV but as far as I know I'll need my computer on to run movies from my iTunes account, which is something I really don't want to do every time I want to watch a movie, just wondering if this can first of all be confirmed?
Also, If I buy Apple TV and an apple time capsule (or an Airport extreme connected to a HDD), can I stream movie files located on the time capsule (or HDD) to the AppleTV without having to turn on the computer and run iTunes?

Yes you need your computer on if you want to stream from its library, even if the library is on an external or network drive.
However any purchases you have made from iTunes can be stream from the iTunes Store at any time without your computer being on.

Simple Question...how to import a playlist to my iTunes library?

I have been trying to get this right. I have some songs on limewire and Windows Media Player and want to import them to my iTunes library. Some of the songs popped up on there...how I dont know. I have created playlists of the songs I want to import already. I am clicking (in iTunes) on File, then Import. I am then going to My Music>My Playlists and selecting the playlist I want to import and clicking Open. Then my window goes away and nothing happens. No new playlist on my iTunes page or anything. What am I doing wrong? I have tried selecting other playlists and it doesnt work on any of them. Help? Please? Thanks!

If you are using iTunes 11 (check by clicking in the menu bar while in the application iTunes > About iTunes), then you can click (again in the menubar) View > Show Status Bar or by pressing "Command /" (Command key and forward slash. This will then display the size of your playlist, how long it will take to play etc at the bottom of the iTunes window.

Hi Guru,
Don't you think it will be risky paying the employee in the last pay period before the carryover process? there can be a scenario where you have paid the employee and the employee also applies leave before the carryover process.
It is always recommended that you define the cut-off period beyond which employees are not able to apply leave for current calendar year and then get the excess leave for payout and then run the carryover process.
Just give a thought on this and recommend the same to the client.

How to populate one array without running the entire VI

I'm trying to populate a complex array that I built that reads from a spreadsheet file. The company I am building it for only has labview run time on the PXI test equipment that I am working with. I am having to fix the VI On my computer then build an executable and then test it on the machine to see if it runs properly. It's a very tedious process. I cannot run the VI on my computer because it requires to have a FLUKE 726 connected in order to run. So, I was wondering if there is a way to repopulate the array without running the entire VI?

Create a subVI for reading/processing of the array. Then you just have to test that subVI as your machine.

How would I be able to run iTunes through my nVidia Graphics card?

I would like to run iTunes through my nVidia Graphics Card, because the visualizations when playing music are running slow...
The option however in the nVidia Control Panel for iTunes has been disabled...
Two programs - Not Games - have been compared to show what I'm talking about...
This is iTunes' settings... Number 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program - Disabled
Now...
Google Chrome's Settings... Number 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program - Enabled
And I'm able to select the card I want the program to run through...

This does present a temporary fix to this problem, but would like to run it from the original iTunes.exe file as well.
I tested the visualizations again and it couldn't run smoother
I will send nVidia a ticket as well, although I think it might be Apple that need to enable something in their exe file?
I am not an expert in program development though, so i might be wrong.

How to browse my playlists without itunes switching to them automatically?

I remember in an older version of itunes I could be playing an album from eith the "music" tab or from one of my smart playlists on shuffle, and then while the album was playing I could browse my other playlists, or if I was playing from a playlist I could browse my music. Now though, after I updated to the newest itunes, it will automatically shuffle from whatever I am browsing currently, even if I was playing from a playlist originally.
I understand that a way around this is to just drag the album into the top bar to make a playlist, so that those songs will go before whatever I am browsing, but this does not help when I want to shuffle from a playlist while looking through my collection.

Enable the sidebar with CTRL+S.
Locate a playlist.
Click the shuffle playlist tool at the top.
Browse around your library.

How do I restore playlist without corrupting/dupping library?

I have a large music collection (50k+) titles which I gathered while deployed. After several transfers/backups among external/internal harddrives, updates of iTunes and the use of Homesharing, the library became a mess of duplicates growing to over 100k titles. Recently, after iTune updates most of those titles were "not found " when I'd open iTunes, utilize playlists or synch mobile devices. Some of the duplications were in the orginal data, some incurred in utilizing 'Homesharing" across the family network of home computers (two Win machines, two external drives, multiple mobile devices) without realizing homesharing would duplicate in the library; and, at one point using "copy to iTunes media folder" so multiple duplicates of recent purchases/transfers were recorded.
So, this week I spent 3 days identifying the best original source folder for music files contained on an external harddrive and deleting all others., turned-off homeshare and pointed iTunes preferences>advanced>change to my best database (G:). When I started iTunes, the library was much improved (50k), but I had no playlists. Next, I erased 699 duplicate songs from same source albums resulting in the final, BEST LIBRARY was 50k titles, 10k duplicates across different albums.
But, all my PLAYLIST were missing. I had moved the original .itl and .xml over to my G: drive because I couldn't figure-out how pointing the Preference to G: but not having the library files would work. Nothing. So, at one point this morning, the library was as pure as it had been in 4 years, but no playlists. I read a few postings here and tried moving my .xml file back to \user\....\mymusic\iTunes folder and deleted .itl. Upon restarting iTunes, I did get my Playlists back in the Sidebar, but only had a library of iCloud songs and purchases (400). When I moved my previous .itl back from recycle and a smaller .xml which had been created in the user\iTunes folder back - the playlists remained, but I picked-up 20k duplicates, both all my duplicate song/albums were back and 20k extra bringing my music library to 70k. I noticed Home Sharing had turned-on by itself and Preferences was pointed back to User\iTunes folder, not G: external. Reversing these two, I still have 70k songs and 30k dups.
I'm just confounded by Apple's file/folder structure. Feels like the .itl contains my "good" playlists, but "bad" library. Can the two be managed separately?
I have used "consolidate" and "organize" commands. I did not use "copy to iTunes media" as that was part of the previous issue creating an extra 250 GB.

If the media is in the standard iTunes folder structure or something similar then I have a script called FindTracks that can often repair things. For more details on how it works see this thread.
For duplicates I have another script called DeDuper that cleans up, while preserving playlist membership, highest rating and merging play counts. Please heed the warning to backup first and review this background thread on what it does.
See also this post on setting out your library to conform with the default layout, though in your case I'm suggesting the library belongs at G:\iTunes and the media inside G:\iTunes\iTunes Media.
