How do I backup shared folders in SIMS 4.0 with Legato NetWorker?

They are not included in backup directory structure by 'mkbackupdir' tool.

Hi Strontium90,
Thanks for your reply!!
I tried your command, but unfortunately i got the following error msg:
"too many command-line arguments (first is "devicemgr_v2m0")
Try "pg_dump --help" for more information."
Please correct me if I'm wrong: assuming command was successful, I should've seen 'profileManager.sql' file at my desktop(output path = ~/Desktop/) which is the Profile Manager's database file I guess, right? and where is the restoration path located? in case I want to restore Profile Manager's database with the created backup file('profileManager.sql').
Also you mentioned: "Automate to perform daily", how can I automate this command?
Thanks a lot for your support!
Have a nice day.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Adler.

My old iPad 2 is updated to ios 7.1.2 but I have a new 4 which is only compatible with 7.0.4 from setup. How can I backup my account to the new iPad with this incompatibility?

What you need to do is temporarily set up your new 4. Just long enough to update the operating system. Then you can erase all content and settings - which puts it back to its out of box state, then set it up again, this time restoring it from the backup of your two.
So, using the same Apple ID on both - just to keep things easy - set up your 4. Just basically choose 'set up as new' to activate it, then immediately update the iOS to 7.1.2.
then erase all content and settings, which puts it back to 'llike new'...but the operating system will not reset, it'll remain 7.1.2
Then set it up again, this time choosing to 'restore from the backup' of your 2 and your 4 will be a near clone of your two.

  • How to: Selective Sync Shared folders

So someone shared a Creative Cloud folder with you. Great! Now you don't really need it and it's taking up space on your hard drive, how can you stop it syncing? Here's how. It's a feature we just added but it's a little hidden so I wanted to share it with everyone. It's useful to:
    Save hard disk space
Control which shared folders you sync
Let you have different shared folders syncing on all your Creative Cloud enabled computers.

  • How can I backup individual folders and not the whole disk?

    Hi Folks,
I want to only backup specified folders with TM, just my iPhoto Library and some bits n pieces but notice it only gives the option to backup or exclude whole hard discs.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?
    Thanks

just my iPhoto Library and some bits n pieces but notice it only gives the option to backup or exclude whole hard discs.
In the TM preferences you would need to exclude all the files and folder you didn't want to back up.

1.How to take backup/download of an entire module pool program with code, screen, etc.
2.How can we take backup/download for a DB table with its structure?
3.How can we take backup of a search help?

    Hi,
May be just for viewing, try downloading from SE80 transaction from the others option.
Here just try issuing the print, it will generate the spool.
Now using the spool, download to your desktop as required. It will have all the information regarding the attributes, fields, elements everything.
The only issue is, may be you need to take all the screens separately.

  • How to properly backup all my data (incl. external HD) with a TC and TM?

    Hi all,
My data is on my MBP and on 2 external HD, one for my music and one for my photo. When I was using TM to backup everything on a third external HD everything was running smoothly, and I could see on the external hard drive, 3 folders with of data on each of my 3 drives: MacintoshHD for my MBP, Disk1 for the music and Disk2 for the photo. I was simply hooking my external HDs to my MBP before doing a TM backup. As a result, I could easily restore one or the other.
I recently installed a TC on my network and it has been running well since then. I am now doing my backup through TM on the TC, and similarly to before, I am doing the backup of my external HD by hooking them on my MBP before doing the backup. I know the TC has been doing the backup of the external HD, has the volume it was backing up was the sum of the used capacity of my MBP and the two external HD.
However, now I have on the TC only one file, a sparsebundle file, which, I guess, contains the backup data for the 3 drives (the MBP and the 2 externals). How does it work if I want to restore my MBP after a big crash. Can I chose to only restore the MBP HD without the two external?
Is this the good way of backing up external HD with a TC? Why is TM using sparsebundle on a TC and not on a HD directly plug on the MBP, because if a network backup, correct? Is it not possible then to have 3 sparsebundle files, one for my MBP, and one for each of the external HD?
    Thanks a lot

Sometimes posts slip through. Apple themselves are supposed to pick up posts not answered after one day.
Anyway everyone is busy with Yosemite bugs now.. !!
However, now I have on the TC only one file, a sparsebundle file, which, I guess, contains the backup data for the 3 drives (the MBP and the 2 externals). How does it work if I want to restore my MBP after a big crash. Can I chose to only restore the MBP HD without the two external?
This is correct.. your Mac is storing all its backups in the one file.
Read our expert Pondini about how this works.
    http://pondini.org/TM/32.html
He shows how to recover multiple volumes..
My advice is not to do it.. Buy a better standard backup .. eg Carbon Copy Cloner.. and use that. It is far superior to TM and makes a direct clone or a sparsebundle on a network drive of just the one disk.. much easier to restore.. much more reliable.. much easier.. much better. It does cost $40 but that covers all the computers in your home.
I do both TM and CCC backups and am happy to have both.. TM works very well when it is behaving.. but is dreadful when it fails.. CCC can produce bootable clones.. so you can have a computer that fails running in 3 min.. it is super easy and super safe.. you can immediately see the backup is good.

  • How do I backup multiple Macs to a time capsule with Mavericks?

I have 2 mac books needing to back up to a single time capsule.  I have heard the key to doing this is to limit the size of each mac book’s sparse bundle and then tell time machine not to resize the sparse bundle when it backs up.  I have tried a terminal command and using disk utility but neither seems to be working although I also can’t seem to figure out how to verify if my efforts have worked either.  Please help!

Hmmm it doesn't always work.. but as long as you keep track of it .. I doubt you will have major issues.
    A8 on setting Sparsebundle size.
Easy solution.. plug in USB drive into the TC, for one laptop.. and use internal disk for the other.. solved.

  • How to reproduce the weird phantom shared folders issue (._-blah@blah.blah)

I have the known issue of the weird phantom shared folders in /var/spool/imap/ with filenames like "^_-blah" that show up as folders with names like "._-blah". I have only 2 folders like this and haven't had new ones show up since July 14th.
I've read the old threads on this and would like to try implementing the fixes, however I need to be able to reproduce the folder creation in order to test the success of a potential fix. And I cannot figure out how to reproduce it. I have tried sending mail to ".[email protected]" and/or mail from (and Reply-To) ".[email protected]" via command-line sendmail (postfix) on my Mac laptop on the local network of the server. No combination of those seem to result in a new file in /var/spool/imap/
    1. How can I reproduce this issue? I confirmed that I've not installed any Software Updates between Jun 14th and now (to make sure it's not that it was patched with some update that I installed).
    2. What is the appropriate way to delete these (after I confirm reproducibility, apply a fix, and confirm subsequent non-reproducibility)?
    Thanks!

    This might help...

  • How do the User and Shared Folders relate to the main drive? Can we delete?

I'm curious how the User and Shared folders relate to the main hard drive and if there is duplicate files in these folders and the main hard drive. Some software programs I have seemed to have loaded content/info into these folders and I'm wondering why they put files in there instead of just the regular main hard drive pathing. These 2 folders are more confusing than anything. I can see that might be of use to a family and each family member wants to keep files in a personal file, but when I'm the only one using my computer, it seems like I should have the option to remove these folders completely, but I don't because I feel like I would be deleting some important files that I wasn't aware were in these folders.
Another thing is, when I click on User folders (at least I think it's the User and not Shared folder), it brings up my name and 'Shared' in 2 seperate subfolders. Is anything in these folders duplicates of what's on my main hard drive? Is there anything significant about these folders if I'm the only user on my computer?
I would nice to get rid of clutter and to eliminate options for software to install things by deleting these folders and not have home/user/shared folders. Is that possible?

    stikygum wrote:
Yeah, I'm really low on space, so I'm going about a bunch of different consolidating options. But I mainly posted my main question to help me understand what 'stuff' is in the User and Shared folders and whether or not they act like an Alias, in order to help me make an informed decision what is best for my needs.
They are not aliases; it is a hierarchy, and there is intentional duplication at different levels. This is a feature.
First thing is that Users and Shared are at different levels. Users is at the top level, but Shared is one level inside Users, at the same level as any other user account you have created.
Therefore, if you delete the Users folder, you delete all user accounts, which means you delete all personal data. OS X probably won't even let you delete the Users folder unless you start up from a different hard drive, because you can't delete your user account while you are running in it.
Now, more about the hierarchy. The intentional duplication is so that documents and software can exist for individual users or all users. For example, there are multiple Applications folders:
Hard Drive\Applications - applications any user can see, installed at the system level
Hard Drive\Users\username1\Applications = applications only that user can see
Hard Drive\Users\username2\Applications = applications only that user can see
In the same way, there are multiple Preferences, Cookies, Application Support, etc. folders at different levels, for the same reasons.
If you do not know what you are doing and you delete one of these folders that "looks like a duplicate" you could cripple some essential part of your system or your account. That is why people are telling you not to do this.
The Shared folder is there because if you are in one user account you are prevented from seeing the files inside other user accounts. (Because you don't want other accounts to be able to see your personal data.) If you want to share files with others in your house using the same Mac, that's a problem. But the Shared folder solves this. if you want some files to be accessible to all users, like some photos or music, just put them in the Shared folder and now anyone with an account on that computer can see those shared files.
The reason shared files are not simply stored at the top level is because everything above the Users folder is supposed to be reserved for the system. User-specific are supposed to stay in the Users folder. That is why they put the Shared folder in there.
If you are not using the Shared folder and are just eyeing it because you want to free up some disk space, well, it probably won't help to delete it. Because if you are not using the Shared folder, it is probably not taking up much space, even though you see stuff in there. And if there is stuff in there taking up space, first figure out if someone put it there for a reason before you delete it.

  • How do i backup laptop or  mac computer ?

    Hi everyone,
    I have a network:
    T1 line --> router -->Mac OS X server 10.4.4--> switch (24 ports)--> workstation A, workstation B, workstation C, laptop 1, laptop 2, laptop 3...
All the workstations and laptops are using Mac OS X 10.4.x
How do i backup certain folders in the workstations ?
How do i backup certain folders in the laptops automatically whenever the user plug the laptops to the network ? We are using Cat-5 cable in our network. The reason we want to do that because the user are taking laptop home overnight to work or travel, so we want to backup the data just in case something happen.
Or If you have better backup solution for this situation please feel free to post here. I'm really appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

I have been experimenting using AppleScripts I have written to do this semi-automatically (the user clicks on the script to start the back up) so multiple teachers logging on at the beginning of the day doesn't hog resources. I don't want it to be automatic.
I am a relatively recent convert back to Apple (used Apple II's in graduate school back in the 1970's) and would like to only back up files that have changed, rather than backing up all files every time as in this DOS batch file:
    set username=johndoe
    set ShareName=\\Server\Users
    xcopy "C:\My Documents\." "%ShareName%\%username%\Documents\." /s /v /m
The /m parameter tells the xcopy program to check the file's archive bit to see if the file has been modified and only copy if the file if the bit it on and when the copy is complete.
The /s parameter copies subfolders like the -R in the Unix cp command.
The /v parameter tells it to verify the copy.
    Issues related to automatic backup:
    1. Password access to server requires embedding password into the script, potentially a giving thief access to your server.
    2. Backup kicking off when it would be annoying to the user: slow performance for other tasks attempted.

  • Upgraded 2 macs to Mavericks, can no longer access shared folders/files.

So I upgraded my Macbook Pro, and Mac Mini to Mavericks today, and previously when they were both on mountain lion I could access the shared folders/files and screen share with absolutely no issue whatsoever.
But upon updating to Mavericks today it all broke.
Both computers were running the OS X Server software on Mountain Lion, and I went ahead and purchased/installed the new edition of server that came out today.
I can see the other mac under the "Shared" option in Finder's sidebar, but when I try to open the other mac it says connection failed and offers to "connect as"
As I usually do, I connect as and it asks for the login credentials. I put in the same credentials as before, 150% sure they're right, in the text boxes that I used before, but it won't allow me to connect to the mac.
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're the right credentials.
I thought it may have been just a wonky permissions error so I unshared the folders and reshared using the same permissions that had worked before.
I've been working on it for about 3 hours now so any help would be appreciated.

I upgraded my two machines - now when I access files on the "shared" storage array (a thunderbolt, pegasus array) across the network (ethernet) if I modify the file (for instance, a jpg) and then go to save I get a "you don't have permissions to etc...." and then when I just close the file without saving - it disappears from my file server permanently! even if I go to the machine hooked up to the array the file is "gone" - unbelievable. I have updated permissions where I can, deleted and added the sharing for users, tried SMB and AFP, and even downgraded the "sharing" machine back to OSX 10.8 where it was working fine but the client machine still is doing this where it can connect, see all the files, but as soon as I modify a file I get the warning and bam, it's gone forever....
Wow - this is a doozy. I don't have a fix but WARNING - watch out as you are working on this problem that your files are being vanished permanently.
